exact same  , if im not mistaken, illegear told me that the z5 is their own factory made laptop, unlike other illegear laptops where they r based on clevo models

that one normal la..because it is based on clevo models...even xotic pc also should have..any laptop that is based on clevo models will have one..

thats why i confused about the z5, which is not based on clevo model

so basically clevo produce the chassis and oem such as sager, illegear, chimera, and xotic customized the laptop?

There are a lot of versions. ILLEGEAR uses the latest version which features thermal bridge dual-heatpipe between CPU and GPU, that's why it made the CPU and GPU cooler than others.

The reviews above might not be accurate, for e.g. the Phantom X1 uses single heatpipe for its CPU and GPU, but equipped with IPS screen by default.

Alright, my 4th day with z5 now.
Had win 7 installed right away on the ssd once got the unit, and had been retrieving my old data/setup/programs for the first 2 days.
And got carried away playing tropico 5 for 2 days

here's the summary:

Design & Look: 8/10
it's a heavier than my old dell 1555, but it looked pretty solid and rugged. Hey, no matter how big or heavy it is, i still carry (any) laptop using a laptop bag what. So no frills on the weight here. Also altho they are both 15.6", the z5 looks much bigger because of the larger bezel and keyboard.

Screen: 9/10
Mine is the IPS screen, loved the details it provides. It's awsome!!! However, spotted one dead pixel on Day 2, and I didn't have warranty for that.

Keyboard: 8/10
Adequate for a laptop, of course don't compare to mechanical keyboard la.

Speakers: 6/10
Well it's still a laptop anyway, but much nicer to my old dell 1555. People, if you want quality sound, please la go buy a decent set of speakers.

Cooling system: 9/10
Double vents and double fans do their job pretty well as advertised.

Still yet to discover how to use the macro keys tho.

Oh I got the driver, it's provided with the cd you gave along with the laptop. Just that i don't know what to do with those macro keys haha.

No offense here, and correct me if i'm wrong.
As per the dead pixel issue, if it happens most frequently throughout the product range, then it's likely to be a hardware design flaw.
Anyway, anyone tried this to fix dead pixel before?

On a side note, anyone know how to disable the battery charging? Our Z5 has not removable battery and i found that it's a nuisance to keep charge and discharge over and over again.
Anyone got any smart solutions for this?

I know that people keep saying no need to protect battery la by the time it dies u want to change laptop also.

That's not the case for me as i plan to make this unit last for another 4-5 years.

So all i can do now is just:
1. fully charge the battery,
2. turn off switch,
3. let battery discharge, wait for it to drop til low levels,
4. turn on switch to charge the battery again
5. repeat

I just bought one today and will be waiting when can I collect it.

Just wondering, how do you install Win7 on the mSATA as I got one without the OS. I already have a 'backup' somewhere else.

All I know is that I need to disable Intel Rapid Boost Technology from the BIOS page.

@MgrSagaaboyz I just read the instructions here (http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t/19516805) but not too sure about it.

Hopefully it is the right steps. Or do you know another way of doing it?

I honestly have no idea because that is the steps from the tutorial about the IRBT.

If it is not required since the notebook is already in a a clean state, then I guess I can just instantly pick the mSATA SSD for the OS to be installed.

So, all I need to do is to plug the USB in, select mSATA SSD and all is good?
