Doesnt matter who is in megadeth as long as dave still writes crappy shit, no one will buy their albums. Fans will still see them perform to hear them play their old stuff.

Compare this to kreator, listen to how their new albums have brought back the excitement to fans like me.

He (dave) needs to open up creative inputs like during rust in peace albu,.. like it or not, we all still see that as the defining sound for megadeth with marty friedman on guitars and nick menza on drums

Any Halestorm fans here? Mind telling me where can I get their albums around the Klang Valley or in any of the local online stores? All of the Rock Corner outlets doesn't have their albums and buying online from the US webstore would be too expensive sad.gif

This demo sounded better than the studio version. Maybe because of Kevin Moore's vocal and the fact the song is entirely composed by him alone.

QUOTE
"There's no one to take my blame
if they wanted to
There's nothing to keep me sane
and it's all the same to you
There's nowhere to set my aim
so I'm everywhere
Never come near me again
do you really think I need you"

" I'll never be open again, I could never be open again.
I'll never be open again, I could never be open again."

share share...why not
my list is quite predictable

1) Bathory - Norland 1 & 2 , Hammerheart
2) Death - the sound of perserverence
3) Emperor - any album
4) Dimmu Borgir - Enthrone Darkness Triumphant ( their defining album)
5) COF - Dusk,..... and her embrace
6) Therion - lemuria, sirius b
7) Gojira - any album
8) Tesseract - altered states ( i still think their decision to fire ashe o hara as the biggest mistake ever. have a listen to this album on spotify you will understand why)
9) Fleshgod Apocalypse - any album ( just love how intense and heavy but yet able to incorporate classical elements)

Salt in the wound. PS it has come to our attention that a disgruntled, rival promoter went crying to the authorities to sabotage our performance in Kuala Lumpur - so sorry to our Malaysian fans, our TRUE ones who aren't crying about their flag and are not INSECURE about their national identity. Am sure you can guess who this individual (the promoter) is so I won't give him the glory of being mentioned in "dispatches". Jeff Walker

Am not sure which promoter they were referring to...

screw it. there's totally no hope of getting any good bands to come over now.

this is more or less the same situation (for me at least) with the LoG debacle last time. then, i had bought my tix for their Bangkok show before they canceled the msia one. no effect for me.

As for carcass, i had already made plans to see them in Manila (Pulp Summer Slam) later next month, so no different for me either. Just feel sad for those who coudnt make it for their Kuching gig earlier.

I missed Carcass in Wacken last year (i was at the main stage for Motorhead) and unable to see them in Kuching, i better hope they show up in Manila. haha

FYI, for those who still wana catch them, i think they are announced as 1 of the 2 international bands for the upcoming Sonic Fair at JKT on early May 2015

Anyone know where I can view upcoming gigs in KL? like a gig listing site. I sometimes check Last Fm, but I'm sure that some lesser known bands fly under the radar on there. I think I asked this same question before, but I've lost those links! any help appreciated.

Thanks

My frequent playlist now in no particular order

1. Nightwish "Endless Forms Most Beautiful"
2. Kamelot "Haven"
3. Two Steps From Hell "Battlecry" (it's epic music, but nonetheless very powerful, my favorite music besides melodic metal)
4. Evergrey "Hymns For The Broken"
5. Black Fate "Between Vision & Lies"
6. Orden Ogan "Ravenhead"
7. Harmony "Theater Of Redemption"
8. Impellitteri "Venom"
9. Empire 21
Plus many2 more.
Now waiting for the upcoming Helloween album "My God-Given Right"

Anyone know where I can view upcoming gigs in KL? like a gig listing site. I sometimes check Last Fm, but I'm sure that some lesser known bands fly under the radar on there. I think I asked this same question before, but I've lost those links! any help appreciated.

Thanks

Apart from his solo, dont see how he changed the band dynamics or even the songs. Its the same formula.

I thought the first snippet that came out months few before sounded generic, but turn out the full song is much, much better than what I expected.

So Bill Ward's newest album, Accountable Beasts was actually mixed using $25 earbuds. I'm not an audiophile per se (used to be), but no wonder the album sounds awful. It is the first time in a long time that I got a mild dizziness after listening to music.

I just have listen the whole Mechina - Acheron. Awesome!
They have the industrial sound+ symphonic+death sound combined.
Definitely death metal in different form. Dunno how to describe them.

Perhaps they are a little bit similar with ex-Faceless drummer band below

I am intrigued by their sound on the new album. Last two albums were too progressive to my likings. Not that I have any problem with progressive metal, but I think Iron Maiden sounds best with short, compact and direct compositions.

ps: I don't understand the craze of Digipak and cardboard box. Give me Jewel case anytime. When I purchase special edition of an album I expect nice and sturdy packaging, not this worn out, frail, cheap looking cardboard. Although I admit sometime they do look nice and creative such as the recently released Joe Satriani's Shockwave Supernova.

Guess Shawn Drover drumming style really fits a band that sounds like this. He's tight but pretty limited. Not a lot of groove. But it's good to see him and Broderick do their own stuff rather than just stuck as a hired guns.

I also prefer the older Maiden stuff before Janick Gers joined except BNW which is a pretty good album but the rest I don't enjoy them much at all. I feel they just have lost it, not much inspiration anymore and the songs becoming more boring every time. I've actually skipped listening to their stuff since Dance of Death! As for favorites, it's rather difficult for me to pick between Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind, Somewhere In Time, and 7th Son, but I'm leaning slightly towards Number of the Beast or Piece of Mind because of Hallowed Be Thy Name and The Trooper.

If it sounds like their latest single just released, I'm not expecting much as that also sounds so boring. Anyway I will still have a quick listen after the album is out. I'm more anticipating Stryper new album actually, 2 songs already out and sounds pretty good much heavier and rockin' than this new Maiden song. laugh.gif

Yeah, 7th Son is overall a very solid album, no weak songs at all in there.
Fear of the Dark though has several weak songs IMHO, probably due to the replacement of Adrian with Janick. It is surely not my favorite and the weakest album of the 1st Dickinson era but at least still much better than all the albums after BNW!

Slayer “You Against You” – Free Download For the First 15,000

user posted image

Slayer and Scion have joined together to offer fans a free download of the song “You Against You.” The track, which is featured on the iconic group’s forthcoming album Repentless (out September 11 on Nuclear Blast), is available as a free download to the first 15,000 fans on ScionAV.com, starting September 4 at 10 am (Pacific Standard Time). “You Against You will also be available for streaming for those that miss out on the download. A limited run of 7-inch records for the single will be available this coming January.

The “You Against You” offer is part of a long-running relationship between Slayer and Scion AV. Last year, the two collaborated on the Scion x Slayer Mobile Amp tC, which premiered and was demoed at SEMA in Las Vegas. The group also participated in the Scion x Slayer Driven video series, which featured a visit to guitarist Kerry King’s Psychotic Exotics reptile house and herpetology nursery, vocalist/bassist Tom Araya checking out his custom bass from the ESP Guitar Company, and the two working on Repentless in the studio.

With 40++ years of rock n' roll lifestyle, now seeing him walking with a cane maybe his age finally catch up to him. But still, he's in pretty good shape for someone who's in his 70.

Coz there are so many big bands (Dream Theater, Helloween, Iron Maiden, Stryper, Metallica, Yngwie) already came to other countries in the region, most notably Indonesia but yet they always passed on Malaysia. Here we only get pop rock stuff like Bon Jovi. doh.gif So I'm wondering is there maybe a regulation that prevented metal bands to come here (that will be a big shame if true) or we just don't have enough market hence not attractive for them to come.

Exactly.. heard about one band was trying to come to Malaysia, but due to lyrics so "lucah" cannot. Stupid and nonsense... whats the big deal with "F" word... budak sekolah from 1 already say fuck like almost every day (my niece eventually...haha)

Slipknot did try to came here, but rejected. But somehow, Soulfly managed to came here...I went there, concert was in Sepang. Forgot the event... How come they managed? hmm.gif

Oh so they get much scrutiny then. doh.gif Actually those artists that promotes more offensive stuff or sex are mostly pop and rap artists. Even their clothing and dance movements are so sexy.
Bands like Dream Theater are not having any offensive lyrics and shows actually.
Stryper actually is a Christian Metal band, but maybe that;s why they will never come to Malaysia despite them had a very successful show in Indonesia.

Is not they dont want to come... but they are actually banned by Malaysia due to profanity, vulgarities, graphic performances, violent lyrics and perceived to be against GOD sweat.gif Bon Jovi? He is harmless? doh.gif

Anyway, has anyone heard the new Iron Maiden album yet? For me it is quite underwhelming.. songs are too long and progressive sounding.. not a fan of progressive metal smile.gif

I do however enjoy the latest album by Amorphis very much... Under The Red Cloud smile.gif

I have sampled a few songs in youtube and I agree with you, it's a bit long and plodding, feel so-so only just like their last few albums. And this is coming from a fan of prog metal btw! laugh.gif I actually don't mind long songs if they keep me interested, got different moods and complexities. Some of my all time favorite songs are actually >20 mins long, for example Odyssey from Symphony X.

Problem ( my opinion) here are really the religious bodies, authorities and religious nut cases giving metal a bad name. Iron Maiden and other metal songs were playing on the radio in malaysia when i grew up and look at where we are now ?

without metal concerts, malaysians are deprived of not only entertainment but also the income for people managing, running and selling the concerts itself.

Yeah that sucks bad! Many shallow minded people perceived metal as evil music, but then let pop & rap flourished. In fact pop & rap 90% of the time just talk about having sex. At least metal lyrics touches all kinds of topics, not just what happens between the legs.

yesterday BFM 89.9 had a '1st listening' of Book Of Souls between 7 - 8 pm. they were unable to play all the songs of cuz. it is very rare that local mainstream radio stations play their songs, but i seldom listen to other radio stations anyway (only bfm mostly actually)!

i guess BFM is consider quite 'liberal' kot. they do play harder stuff, eg there's this program 'heavy' (cant recall if it is correct program name) and the DJ play lots of punk, metal , core stuff etc. i think the DJ (Ali Johan?) is from a local punk band as well.

Zack Yusoff (Ross's brother) is there as well, with his weekly show call '33RPM', which play lots of modern / classic rock tracks, alternatives, indie, post, shoegaze (and some genre which i x paham)..

So i ges certain hours, if i happen to be driving, i dont mind listening to it actually

Yeah I also never listen to radio coz most of the bands that I like are never on the radio ever. Anyway I got enough collection and the new stuff keep coming, so never had the need to listen to radio at all.

Yeap of course DT as well, they're legends of prog metal. But now there are so many great prog metal bands out there: Circus Maximus, Vanden Plas, Evergrey, Kamelot, Myrath, Seventh Wonder, etc2...I could go on and on and on with the list. laugh.gif

Well not full blown prog like DT of course but they do have some prog elements. They actually combine symphonic, prog, and power metal style in their music. Kodn of like what Symphony X is doing as well (but SX is just without female vocals). The singer now also is in Seventh Wonder which is a more prog metal band.

I discovered this heavy metal band from poland: Made Of Hate. Lead singer's voice can be on the down side but if you like catchy riffs, furious solos then you can try this band out wink.gif

Albums to try:

- Pathogen
- Bullet To The Head

https://youtu.be/q49EK3hygCo

To be honest this band has been accused of being a Children of Bodom clone.... But I dont feel much that way though

Just bought Metallica Garage, Inc. double disc. Disc 1 is really solid. But man.. the second disc, that's where most of the great stuff comes from. Even playing someone else's song they managed to add their own sound to it.

Just bought Metallica Garage, Inc. double disc. Disc 1 is really solid. But man.. the second disc, that's where most of the great stuff comes from. Even playing someone else's song they managed to add their own sound to it.

Speaking of Metallica, Master of Puppets was released some 30 years ago. Believe it or not, it's currently on billboard albums chart right now. People are still buying the album today. That just goes to show how awesome it is. Not only it's Metallica's best album, it's probably one of the best metal albums out there.

Idk what does a 'filler' mean, but this is a new track from their upcoming album.

Edit:if u mean by 'filler' is bad or not up to their std, then no it's not a filler. Just doesnt reach my high expectation :/

i have to disagree. i think fatal illusion is a better song, esp the main riff

we'll see if this album has that 'excitement' of peace sells huhu

Hmm not just power metal, got mix of prog & symphonic elements too. I'm actually more into those 2 elements than just pure power metal, but all must be very melodic.

damn. wasted my chance during Soundwave few years ago. stuck in the mainstage area then, knowing if i go out, i might not able to go back in due to the massive crowd q-ing and trying to get in.

Motorhead is more rock n roll than metal but still, lemmy has an influence on the metal scene.

What I like about motorhead is how almost none of their albums sounds the same. They just keep evolving.

Ok back to metal, im currently listening to Deluge...

Man, I would have gone nuts this time last year if I'd heard this then. But I can't stand the post-metal type of vocals. Love the music, though.

Anyway, for those who still yearn for good ole Emperor (mainly a less keyboard-y In the Nightside Eclipse), here's some total worship:

Well economy not so good and SGD has become more expensive. Some more this is on Monday. If they come to Indonesia, I'm quite sure they can sell more tickets coz there are more metal fans there and there are already so many bands successfully performing there like Maiden, Helloween, Dream Theater, Metallica, Stryper, Yngwie just to name a few, all able to sell in arenas >5k capacity.

Anyway I wonder what time we need to queue already ya? The door will open at 7pm.

For me, as you may have noticed I'm a big fan of Nightwish so I just have to go and spend (I predict will spend a few k in total as I'm bringing my family jalan2 there for a few days). I will be watching the concert with my older son, and it's going to be his first time going to any concert so it would be awesome. biggrin.gif

Oh got another metal tread? Hahaha...let me check it out.

Ya, I think I'm going to arrive around that time too.
I'm also a big fan of the band so I immediately booked once I knew about it! Unfortunately already late to get the VIP ticket or else I'd bought that instead.
This is going to be my 4th metal/hard rock concert (I've watched Maiden, Queensryche, and Van Halen all in the early 90s).

Maiden was during the "Fear of The Dark" album tour
Queensryche during the Operation Mindcrime and Empire tour
Van Halen during the "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" tour.

Bought the newest Megadeth album - Dystopia. While it is certainly a throwback to the old, thrashier and aggressive Deth's root, however overall I thought the album as a whole is just boring. Every song sounds similar, with similar song structure and solos. But my biggest gripe is the lyrics. It's more akin to a long rant and mumble rather than singing. Not even one catchy hook or chorus you can find in this album.

Bought newest Dream Theater album - The Astonishing. This is very "difficult" album to comprehend. It's very challenging, demanding and a departure of the old Dream Theater that we so used to.

Not going to say it is a bad album, This saviour, who's fall in love with a dictator's princess cliche' set in a sci-fi world is not really my cup of tea.

I do love concept album though, but I just thought with all the budget and orchestration behind the album it could've been a lot better with much more serious and realistic theme or backstory behind it.

Mike Portnoy might be a control freak, but years after his departure I I realize that both him and Petrucci just neutralize each other. From straying too far.

As for The Astonishing, I think Petrucci had too much control regarding the output and songwriting process. This album is more like John Petrucci & Jordan Rudess side-project featuring a vocalist, bassist and drummer.

*
The new DT album is also very long, about 2 hrs to complete listening. It is a complicated album.
Portnoy's departure seems to make DT albums just a tad less heavy but more complex.

Stumbled upon this on spotify....was really surprised that COF decided to remake all their hits from the first 3 albums..... the quality production is definitely better and some changes to the arrangements + added vocals....

The band Hellyeah consist of Pantera's drummer & Mudvayne's vocalist.

The new single "Human" kick-ass.

What I liked from the first two of Metallica new songs that they are hybrid between old school and modern metal . There are rising trend of old school metal band adopted too much radio-friendly sound in recent years.

Recently i'm into DEATH. I think I know why I love their songs. Because it is not pure blast-beat style of orthodox death metal. It's more technical and progressive. Being among the first incarnation of death metal band, it's no surprise they actually sounds more THRASH-ier compared to the early 90's death metal band. If Chuck still alive there's no doubt he will be regarded as one of the pioneer and virtuoso of metal music.

I know I'm late but I listened to this since release but as someone who don't usually listen to metal Gojira is really good entry-level to the genre.

This year has not been as fantastic as last year for me but still there were quite a number of excellent & solid releases. My top 10:
1) Evergrey - The Storm Within,
2) DGM - The Passage,
3) Myrath - Legacy,
4) Sunburst - Fragments of Creation,
5) Serenity - Codex Atlanticus.
6) Lords of Black - II,
7) Theocracy - Ghost Ship,
8) Primal Fear - Rule Breaker,
9) Withem - The Unforgiving Road
10) Circus Maximus - Havoc.

Best findings for me would be Psycrence, Waken Eyes, Teramaze, Sunburst & Black Faith, Lords of Black, Withem.

Best live show video would be Nightwish - Vehicle Of Spirit followed by Judas Priest - Battle Cry Live in Wacken

Highlight of the year would be taking my older son to his first metal concert to watch Nightwish live in Singapore! rclxm9.gif

She talked about the American Carnage Tour with focus on 'Tim' Araya. Not Kerry King or Dave Mustaine.
Out of sudden, she talked about the American Carnage in the inaugural speech.

I wonder is that because the recent Tom Araya's statement in the band's twitter with Trump face on the bands photo?

Politics.

Hahaha not really bro.
If you follow her segment, you will understand thats how she sets up her story for viewers to give context.

Plus this segment is probably published before the tweet.

Anyways, I no longer find slayer relevant. Their new materials is really....uugghhh....

Unlike Kreator that seems to have gone through a rebirth since violent revolution. Their songs are getting better that I been.going back to them constantly on spotify.

what do you mean, evolve? what's better than old school thrash? megadeth 'evolved' once, and the outcome is risk, thanks to marty.

if i have the budget and time i'll surely wont miss them in malaysia, might be the first and the last time they'll be here. so if u have the budget and time, do me a favor, go to the concert and buy me a tour t-shirt. upah ada, no worries. interested, pm tepi.

same here. most likely will be going (and hopefully!) but the expensive tix is a turn off. might just go for the 2nd standing pen. Since i had committed to Hammersonic Fest (which Megadeth is playing as well), i ll push my way to the front there and then =D

saw em twice, once when they came to sinkapo few years back, while another time at Wacken Fest in 2014.. enjoyed them both times. was left hanging during the SG gig cuz they din play Tornado Of Souls, but they made it up in Wacken

i somehow share the same sentiment with you. call me boring, but i dont want any of these old school thrash metal bands to evolve. i love em when they played their old stuff. haha.. whenever i listen to them (and other thrash metal bands), automatically i ll just go through their old stuff.

yup proud to say i had seen the big 4 (Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer), 3 out of 4 of the big teutonic thrash 4 (Kreator, Sodom and Destruction) and few other thrash metal bands such as Death Angel, Onslaught, Warbringer, DRI, Municipal Waste ... (last 2 consider as crossover thrash?). gotta love em old school stuff (most of em tbh)!

Fuyo.......Megadeth won grammy!!! To be honest, Dystopia is a very mediocre song. I think the grammys must be thinking, these guys have been in the music business for a long time, ahh just give it to them.

The funny part was, when they went to receive the award, Master Of Puppets was played in the background.

Will be there. Mainly for nostalgic reason. I mean, come on.. it's Megadeth. Remember the first time you listened to Holy Wars opening riff? Read Devils Island lyrics, line by line from LP/cassette sleeve? Debating with your friend on The Mechanix vs. The Four Horsemen? Saw them in Singapore, US and Japan. But this our time (after all infamous shit associated when you google "Megadeth + Malaysia + Banned" i.e Youthanasia cover issue, Vic Rattlehead unsuitable for the youth of Malaysia, Black Metal) and maybe the only time.. Megadeth is in Malaysia.

By the way, Meet & greet lucky winners.. Good luck

Great gig last night. Mustaine's singing was surprisingly good at his age. Plus side - love the intro b4 hangar18, the dual guitar solo, the sing along during a tout le monde. But the concert feel kinda short maybe due to them playing nearly non stop. And I do wish they play few more songs from countdown or youthanasia.

Missed seeing Metallica 4 years ago. To those who went to both gig, hows the comparison?

Metallica's sound system was way better
And Papa Het's showmanship was great, and filling in gaps talking to the crowd (giving themselves some chance to rest) while making the whole show more fun overall

The Megadeth show felt a bit short coz they made us wait a long time before they appeared (so long in fact some excitement waned IMHO)
Then they appeared and played non-stop without much interaction with the crowd, save for some quips about She-wolf being about his ex-friend's ex-wife(?) and the thing in Ireland
The crowd was also less energised compared to the Metallica one

They played too many songs from Dystopia, but then it was the Dystopia tour lar...
But they did play Tornado of Souls, Holy Wars and Symphony of Destruction, plus the staples Hangar 18 and A Toute Le Monde so... i was pretty happy

Oh, and Kiko was quite good
Overall, it was a jolly good show smile.gif \m/

That's just the way Dave Mustaine wanted it to be. I remember reading somewhere the reasons he don't like to do too much talking in-between songs or sing along because the crowd paying good amount of money to see them perform.

Yeah, I wonder if there is any soundboard or bootleg recording of the show. The sound system doesn't do them justice. Not sure if it was the acoustic or just plain bad soundstage, I couldn't hear the notes at all.

Good luck

for me it was a great show after all. sound system was meh, but we gotta give it to the setlist. of all the deth's shows i've been to (it was my 4th or 5th) this time's setlist tapao all. 18 songs, and shewolf? horyshiet.

but man the opening act sucks big time. they should've given the chance for better, bigger band. and the one that play thrash too. not an emo-screamo band. kesian pakcik2 datang tak boleh layan band jerit2 ranting.gif ranting.gif ranting.gif

overall i like the scene of bapak2 bring along their children to this concert. good exposure for those youngsters imo. thumbup.gif

Comparing their performance between KL and Hammersonic (Jakarta), Dave 'interacted' more with the crowd in our homeground. haha. As i recalled, i think he told a summary of what happened with their performance in Ireland long long time ago before their encore with Holy Wars

i too agree that out of the 4 times i ve seen them (Singapore 2012, Wacken 2014, KL and Jakarta 2017), i had the best time in their KL concert. Plus, the crowd in KL is definitely more hype than those in Jakarta!

however, they did played the exactly same set in Jakarta.. i was kinda hoping they changed it abit. oh well..

I thought the opening act was ok what... and since they made us wait so long I thought they could've played longer too
Or maybe had a few more acts play

i mean the crowd grew so bored of waiting they got excited just hearing Ace of Spades and Wasted Years being blasted from the speakers, lol

Yup, he told the story about the Ireland thing and how he inadvertently caused a riot, and most importantly how he had no recollection of it because he was too hammered, lol
He also talked about the song She-wolf a bit

So in Jakarta he didn't talk at all?

It was a pretty good setlist, so it was a good call to repeat it!
although I did hope they would've played something fun like Mechanix or Victory, but i think that's asking for too much haha

He claimed that the crowd is too quiet. then he asked us to 'shhhh' ' dont make any sound.. because it is a metal concert' #sakarsm. lol.
well, wouldnt blame the crowd, since its a metal fest. ppl go there for diff kinda bands, diff kinda genre (eg, i can easily walked to the front section during Abbath and Tarja's set, but not for the 'core' bands). During Megadeth, noted that it was reli happening at the front, but around me.. it was just me headbanging and singing as loud as i can whenever they belted out my favourite tracks

if my timetable allows it, i ll be definitely looking forward to Kreator and Vader on 31st Aug @ Singapore!

2018 resolution- listen to one new metal album a day / week.
This week it's a band that I never jeard of - Wolves in the throne room - really awesome atmospheric black metal - go have a listen to their new album thrice woven.

Second band is someone i never thought I will listen (Machine Head !) to but holy shit, this is one fierce album that blends Pantera + Slipknot.

Well worth a listen.

The new machine head album?
Forget it. Their album and music direction pretty much went commercial after this album.

*New metal album per day*

Band - Tribulation
Album - Down Below

This is a very interesting album - a mix of melodic inspiration from TO DIE FOR , Thin Lizzy, Sentenced but heavier old school death metal vocals.
Definitely worth a listen if you love heavy melodic metal but hated weak vocals. check them out guys!

Probably one of the best discovery for me this week,

Band - Enshine
Album - Singularity

*Edit* the band calls themselves Space Metal

A very awesome atmospheric, melodic metal - think Amorphis + Tesseract but with heavier growlling vocals. While it is not technical like Tesseract, it somehow manages to pull off an amazing surreal sound to draws me into their solid guitar work.

9/10

didnt realize the existence of this thread, only when i insert the keyword 'metal' in the search box. im reporting in. extreme metal fans especially black and death metal. Death, fronted by the late Chuck Schuldiner is my forever favourite death metal band and the standalone one man fronted band Burzum, fronted by the one and only Varg Vikernes is my favourite black metal band. I know Varg's scream is a turn off for many people but who cares. \m/

Welcome . My favorite death album is there sound of perseverance.

Burzum is messy, as the one man band is in reality he is a nutcase that actually murdered Mayhem's guitarist. So, I find it hard to justify listening to his music now.

I kind of watched Varg's vlogs on youtube about different kind of topics and yeah he has that stereotypical kvlt völkisch /pol/ opinions but he's very articulate and couple that with the ambient music playing in the background it kind of makes an entertaining watch.

Only got into Filosofem so far because of the dark ambient/ blackgaze sound.

Speaking of blackgaze Deafheaven just released a new one:

If you like over the top guitar playing then Yngwie Malmsteen will be playing this Saturday 29/9 in KL.
Then Judas Priest is coming to Singapore & Jakarta on Dec 4 & 7 respectively.

I'll be going to both Yngwie & JP concerts.

Good, it'll be held in Ancol Theme Park, so should be bigger venue than the one in SG. Just need to be more careful cause the crowd for metal concerts in Indonesia is usually more rambunctious and can have more pick pockets.

Go to JP concert in Singapore then on Dec 4th. I'll be going to the Jkt one coz I bought the ticket already before they announced the SG show time. Anyway I think the Jkt show will be bigger coz the venue should be bigger.

There's a record shop in ground floor Sungei Wang Plaza, they sell some metal shirts. For more popular bands, you can get some from Lazada and 11 Street too.

It was great! thumbup.gif He was in great form, playing fast and clean, a true rock showman! I was also pleasantly surprised that his backing band was also playing tight! Special note for the keyboardist who sung his lungs out, able to hit all the high notes cleanly and on point. Then the drummer also played great, even managed to do a solo session. Good that Yngwie still allows other member to show off too! The audio was also very good, all instruments sounded well balanced and loud with only the vocal slightly under but still ok. Yngwie's guitar sounded incredible, the best guitar sound I've ever heard in a live concert (including compared to Eddie VH sound when I saw them during the F.U.C.K world tour in the 90s!), and then special note to the drum sound which was thunderous with earth shaking bass drum!

I'm glad that they played many of his classics like Rising Force, 7th Sign, Far Beyond the Sun, Evil Eye, I''l See the Light, You Don't Remember, Trilogy Suite Op, and of course Black Star. Those really rocked the house down! I think since this is his first visit here, he stick to his signature songs more so the crowd can follow and enjoy better, and they seemed really pumped to impress us.

The hall was not full though, maybe around 70% full on the free standing zone but the seating balcony looked at least 90-95%, so in total a pretty decent crowd showing. Anyway the Nightwish show that I saw in Singapore in 2016 was also about the same size venue and about the same crowd volume and not sold out, so for Yngwie to be able to draw about the same as Nightwish here is not bad at all. Apparently Malaysia still has some taste for crazy metal guitar playing! laugh.gif

This is one sample:

Again my candidate for the best album of 2018, from another melodic metal master Kamelot with their latest album in 2018, Shadow Empire. Perfect blend of melody, speed, orchestral arrangements, with some touch of aggressive female growling to boot!

I got the early bird price for rm180/person. I bought 2 tickets for me and my son. smile.gif Yeah it's still a bit pricey but still cheaper than the Nightwish Singapore show tickets. The Judas Priest tickets in Jakarta is even cheaper though! I also got early bird price and will watch that concert also with my son. biggrin.gif

Awww.. You dont have to be a fan to see Megadeth live. Haha..

Ticket price for Judas Priest in Jakarta is quite cheap. But I dont have the energy to join fellow metalhead in Jakarta. I'm more into laid back, let the mouth to the action type nowadays. Sudah tua wei.. I opt for Singapore this time.

If I'm not a fan of their music then how to enjoy the concert leh?? It's not like watching some sexy female pop artist that you might not care about the music but at least you get to see some sexy girls dancing! laugh.gif

Yeah easier to go to the SG gig to watch the Priest but the Jkt gig is in a bigger venue so I hope would be more spectacular show! rclxm9.gif

I'm actually still undecided if to watch the Maidens or not. I like Iron Maiden music but I have also watched them live in the early 90s so not sure if I want to watch their tribute band only. If still got Nita probably I'd watch. brows.gif

So anyone get to watch the Priest live either in Sg or Jkt?? I watched in Jkt with my son, and it was an absolute blast! About 8 thousand metal heads came and they played for 1:45 mins. Most of the band might be old but they still kick ass hard! The sound was excellent, the stage show/screens was amazing, and they played very tight! Very happy to see Glenn also played a few songs at the end to make the band a 3 guitar attack. Truly a top notch act and I can confidently claim that it was so far the best concert I have ever watched! (So far I have watched 7 rock concerts: Europe, Queensryche, Van Halen, Iron Maiden in the early 90s, then Nightwish, Yngwie, and Now the Priest in the last 3 years)

Saw them in SG. I was there for supporting band BABYMETAL. As you've said, JP was very good, and LOUD. My ears were still ringing next morning. Rob always has nice things to say about BABYMETAL and they collaborated at APMA 2016. When I found out they were coming to SG, I bought the ticket bundle at gig-merch.com, before official ones went on sale.

I got to the venue around 2pm and was 2nd row behind the barrier. Seeing Glenn was very emotional. He even teased us. By pointing at us, smiled and rubbed his eye.

Small vid I took, https://streamable.com/mtqcd (warning: loud)

For the Jkt show there's no opening act, straight to JP show. We didn't go too much to the front coz usually the front spectators can be too wild (and it was!) and I need to protect my teenage son. We stand about 5-6 meters from the barriers which was still close enough but still safe.

How long did they play? In ours, they played 1:45 mins which was an extra 15 mins over the scheduled. The Jkt promoter said the band was very happy with our reception that they decided to play that extra 15 mins which meant we get more Glenn time! He played several of the classics. Oh and ours was also their closer show for the 2018 tour. Scott mentioned that they want to pick the most kick ass place to close the tour just before they played Painkiller.😂

Yeah it was loud but clean sound! Honestly I feel they got the best sound out of all the concerts I have watched so far.

It was pretty wild in SG at lease around where I was. However, with 2x the capacity I think it should be really hectic in JKT as well.

We at the front was crazy about BABYMETAL. There were mosh pits right behind us which didn't seem to end for the rest of the show. A few crowd surfers but not too bad. Great times!

We have the same setlist. In fact they have been playing the same setlist since Nov I think. BABYMETAL played a 40 mins set starting around 8pm. Then an hour setup change later and JP played from 9.35pm to 11pm.

As you've said, sound was really good. I wish they'll come to M'sia or at least tour SEA again.

Finally checked out the latest Senyawa album Sujud and the first track with its bordering-on-blasphemous chants is too claustrophobic and suffocating to listen to. I guess it just hits too close to home. It's Swans-esque though that's for sure especially like The Seer album.

After that most of the album is what I have been yearning for recently mainly from the aesthetic aspect which is mainly focusing on that drone/doom metal/post-rock
sounds but with that Nusantara twist coming from the use of the traditional folk instruments.

Been digesting it and I have to say from like an hour and a half Kebaikan Tumbuh Dari Tanah is my favourite so far. That distant echoey voices with steady but sparse riffs filling the voids as the song trudges along. Somehow it ends too soon at less than 5 minutes of runtime.

Been listening to the latest 2019 albums from Vanden Plas, Teramaze, Darkwater, Dream Theater, and Evergrey. Just watched the latest live video of Nightwish
in Buenos Aires. Highly anticipating the upcoming Nightwish album o be released 10 April which should be epic again as it's going to be a long 2 disc album.

Hello fellow Metalhead, I'm new here.
Glad to know that there's a thread dedicated to Metal music.

I'm trying to expand my music library with more metal music, I listens to a mixture of rock + metal. The most heavy type of metal I can go with is Melodic Death Metal.

Got any suggestions? It can be your favorites that you want to share to others as well. I'm pretty open.

PESTILENCE IS BACK!!! Yes , album was launched on APRIL 2021 but i just found out lol...streaming now on spotify

user posted image

I have to say, i like this album more than their 2018 effort HADEON . This album is very true to their older 90's sound. If only they will do another more technical death album style like Spheres

A new album, on a new label armed with a whole new line-up and a new dynamic: no matter what, PESTILENCE or more specifically their maestro Patrizio Mameli are like the phoenix, rising from the ashes, over and over again. Three years after ‘Hadeon’, the band and their totally revamped line-up – besides former Dew Scented and Creepmime Joost van der Graaf on bass and Bleeding Gods’ Rutger van Noordenburg on lead guitar, former God Dethroned Michiel van der Plicht joined on drums last year – not only prove to be worthy of its golden legacy, but actually deliver with ‘Exitivm’ what is probably their best incarnation in over a decade, with the kind of instantly recognizable sound that will immediately make all ‘Testimony Of The Ancients’ fans drooling with anticipation while proving they’re not a nostalgia act but are living in the now. Recorded over two months last summer and armed with the crispiest production they’ve ever had, their ninth full-length is titled ‘Exitivm’ for a reason. Meaning ‘brutal destruction’ in Latin, those ten new tracks (plus one intro and one outro) are brutal yet progressive, drenched in a sci-fi atmosphere and transfigured by Mameli luminous solo work and subtle keyboards layers. Both a reinvention and a confirmation of everything the band has been standing for since 1986, thirty-five years later PESTILENCE are more than ever exploring the further outposts of the extreme metal sound on ‘Exitivm’.
Selling points:

A progressive death metal phenom, labeled on the same genre-defying scale as Death, Cynic and Atheist.
Founded in 1986, the band blazed the trail for generations of progressive death metal.
Pestilence boldly continues its legacy after two break-ups (in 1994 and 2014) and reunions (in 2008 and 2016, respectively).
Invariably guided by the long-established personality of founder, vocalist & guitarist, Patrick Mameli.
Much anticipated successor to 2018’s warmly received resurrection album, ‘Hadeon’.
All music & lyrics by Patrick Mameli.
Produced by Patrick Mameli & Jory Hogeveen.
Engineered, mixed and mastered by Jory Hogeveen.
Recorded at Pitch Note Studio in the Netherlands.
Drums recorded at Droomschool van der Plicht.
Cover artwork by Michał “Xaay” Loranc (Nile, Decapitated, Behemoth).
New band photos by Marc van Peski.
A new incarnation of Pestilence featuring a revamped line-up.
First album to feature new drummer Michiel van der Plicht of ex-God Dethroned & Carach Angren (live).
First album to feature bassist Joost van der Graaf (ex-Creepmime, ex-Sinister).
First album to feature new guitarist Rutger van Noordenburg (Bleeding Gods).
Pestilence is confirmed for Wacken Festiavl 2021.
Since 2018, the band performed to crows in Europe, USA, South America, Singapore and Japan.
In 2020, the virus outbreak forced Pestilence to cancel a co-headlining North American tour with Possessed.
In 2019, the band played several key metal festivals all over the word.
Pestilence was boosted into international recognition in 1989, being at the forefront of the scene.
The band’s album ‘Consuming Impulse’ was introduced into Decibel Magazine’s hall of fame in 2013.
… the same album was the beginning of all things great for Pestilence and marked its historic shift to death metal.
