Well, usually Mechanical Keyboards from established brand ranges from 399 upwards. If you can get one for cheaper, then I do think it's a nice price. My brother bought his Corsair Strafe for 399.

Yeah, kind of itchy due to the price... tongue.gif

for mkbs, it's better for you go and try out different switches first. it's really about personal preference.

i only have mkbs with cherry mx (red mostly; backlit and non-backlit); to me cherry mx blue is loud. red is best (linear, 45g), especially with double o-rings, and swapped stock abs keycaps with pbt. i prefer tenkeyless (tkl) to full set. if you are like those who love to swap keycaps due to whatever reasons, it's better to stick to cherry mx switches (more keycap choices). the common ones that fit all bills that i know of are filco (non-backlit), ducky (backlit and non-backlit), and coolermaster masterkeys series (backlit). corsair's mkbs have incompatible bottom row, so you cannot swap all of them with the common oem or cherry mx compatible keycaps (most will fit, but not some keys at bottom row; i read corsair will release pbt keycaps later, but don't know when)

there are cheaper options with cherry mx clone switches. you can check out storeuni.com or garage sales here for options. i saw something in those places that are around your budget.

edit: oh right my current favorite is coolermaster masterkey pro s. it's a minimalist keyboard with rgb backlit; you can save profiles with keyboard itself, without the need of additional software; media keys can be accessed via fn combos; the rest is for you to explore. yeah the price is higher, but it's worth the price tbh.

imo corsair's stock keycaps are bad. their overall build quality is good, except for their keycaps. the paint is so thin that they got peeled after a year or two.

Yeah i did some research on the switch which i read that the blue one not good for gaming as harder and hard to double tap due to the mechanics of the switch: http://www.keyboardco.com/blog/index.php/2...nical-switches/
About the O-ring, do you need to get it separately or certain few will come with those for dampening the key stroke?
Will have a look at the link you provided and thanks for the info... if nothing fits my bill then i guess will go with cheap conventional membrane keyboard... rclxs0.gif

you get o-rings separately, https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3461701 (however i suggest you test the mkb out without o-rings first; maybe you like the original feels; i like my keyboards to make less noise)

i suggest you to get one. mkbs are good and long lasting in general (at least cherry mx switches). if you don't like backlit, it's cheaper relatively.
*
Actually I don't mind the noise of the switch so it's just the budget problem... biggrin.gif
As for switch type, i thought the blue switch design would make it hard for gaming purposes but after reading some reviews and opinions in forums, I think it's just a matter of personal preference so I might try it out and see if I can grow to like this mkb... hmm.gif

tbh there is no need to get those expensive ones, unless they have unique features that you want and that others don't have, or you're some kind of enthusiasts (which have their own sets of brands to choose from). in reality, they're keyboards that last and with better typing feels. (each brand does have different typing feels even if they use the same switch; but that's not the point if you just need a mkb)

right it's all about personal preference, that's why it's better to check them out one by one.
*
Yeah, i did manage to get to try out some Cherry MX Blue and clone blue switches at some PC shop nearby and i'm quite pleased with the blue click-clanking... bruce.gif
I also manage to try on one Cherry MX Brown is somehow sound and feels like a regular keyboard, which feels odd on mechanical keyboard in my point of view... blink.gif
I now kind of agreeing with the opinion Linus having on the blue switches in this video... rclxms.gif

yeah it's almost all about personal preference when you talked about those switches. all it matters is that you like your choice smile.gif

Yeah, just made the order and wait for it to ship on the next working day... Fingers crossed... notworthy.gif

Hm, anyone have recommendation of where to get a Asus G751 replacement keyboard? Somehow the keyboard needs some extra force in pressing certain keys to register so might think of a replacement for it... Or is it possible to service it?

It is a module, just send to service centre to replace it if still under warranty. Else they will charge you part and labour fee.

Warranty already over... sweat.gif

Nice, I believe it would work with other soft touch plastic surfaces? My old Razer Abyssus clearly needs help. tongue.gif
You can try asking laptop repair shops for it, they usually can manage to find one. Else, you can DIY by buying the item from online store and replace it on your own.
I asked previously to a laptop repair shop, regarding display replacement. He mentioned it should be plug and play as the dimension is standard. Personally, I never changed it, but was always interested to replace the TN panel of my recently dead notebook.
*
Did ask my friend's PC shop to ask the supplier for it but still no news at the moment...

what's the wear level of the battery? you can use hwinfo64 to check it out. also, did you service your laptop before? if possible, try tear it down and do cleanups also.

my old g55vw still work fine until now. (the battery is not so it only run when plugged in)
*
I've service it before for fan cleaning and I'm aware of this issue as last time i noticed the laptop will auto power off when the battery level goes below 25% but this time around it directly power off at 96%... I guess it's time la... bye.gif

QUOTE(aimanace94 @ Oct 25 2017, 12:26 PM)
u seems really knowledgeable at this. Do dongle WiFi naturally sucks compared to internal WiFi ?

im using TP-Link WN725N which is capable of getting 150Mbps. my internet plan is only 10Mbps at 2.4GHz. i know this dongle is small (antenna-wise), but compared to its capability vs my internet plan the difference is very noticable in terms of speed and latency vs my internal card. if i buy more expensive dongle (say, TP-Link archer T2U AC600) (also, does high gain vs standard gain matter?) will it at least be better than the internal, 5 years-old-Intel N2230 ?
*
The 150Mbps wireless dongle should be sufficient for 10Mbps internet but do note on the Wifi strength that you can get on that dongle versus your internal wifi, this is given as the dongle has a small antenna versus the antenna that you have internally in your laptop. Laptop internal wifi might be better sometimes as most laptop will have 2 antenna place at different corner of the laptop so that your wifi card can see which antenna having a better signal from your router and it will automatically switch to the antenna with better signal strength.
As for the antenna gain, the higher it is means the better it is. The best solution for wifi strength transmitting over wall would be getting a router with high dB antenna which can transmit at higher power, more penetrating power when crossing the concrete wall. As for the TP-Link archer T2U AC600, it would be best for you to skip this and go with other models with high dB gain as this model is only better than your WN725N for having the 5GHz band support and also the AC support, which both of this is not of use if your router is not 5GHz and AC protocol capable. You can go with the TL-WN722N model which has the high gain antenna that is better at picking up weaker Wifi signal: http://www.tp-link.com/us/products/details..._TL-WN722N.html

Damn, replaced my G751 screen last April from Taobao, now it's dead again... vmad.gif
Seems like it's the backlight that went out this time, still can see some shadow on the display...
Anyone know if Asus can repair the screen and does the repair comes with warranty?

Isn't the backlight integrated within the screen part? If you bought a new screen, it should come with the backlight together right? Anyway, you can try ask Hasoob Laptop Service if they could help with the issue.
*
I meant that the screen that i replace last time encountered the dead backlight this time as the last time was purple line appearing on the screen... I end up with an external monitor for now as i'm lazy to buy from China again...
Apart from that, any 2nd hand value for this unit with the screen spoiled? Might plan to let it go if I'm too lazy to fix it...

You can message the shop first and ask them the price, after you mentioned your issue. Maybe their answer could help you to make decision better to sell or keep and repair.

Ok, will try and see if they can help...
