Hey Guys,
Was wondering, what balls is everyone using to hook over here ? .. just looking around ... oh yea, 1 issue ... do you guys ... just bowl with in-house balls till .... you can handle 14 - 15 lbs, then you buy your very own one .. or .. you usually go for 2nd hand ones .... then only you buy that special one for yourself ? .. cause my problem right now is that, I could only use 12 lbs balls ... no point buying a new 12lbs and later buying another heavier one, right ? ... at least, that's what kelvio advise me on ... sometime ago, somewhere .. as for 12 lbs second hand balls, does anyone have contacts ? .. |

I used to bowl in house ball size 12. When I decided to get my own ball, the shopowner recommended 13. So I've been using that ball ever since.
No issues on the balls now right? |

QUOTE(Biscuit @ Jun 8 2007, 03:25 PM) Hey Guys, biscuit, i think i may have a 12lbs ball but its in polyester. not made for hooking. Was wondering, what balls is everyone using to hook over here ? .. just looking around ... oh yea, 1 issue ... do you guys ... just bowl with in-house balls till .... you can handle 14 - 15 lbs, then you buy your very own one .. or .. you usually go for 2nd hand ones .... then only you buy that special one for yourself ? .. cause my problem right now is that, I could only use 12 lbs balls ... no point buying a new 12lbs and later buying another heavier one, right ? ... at least, that's what kelvio advise me on ... sometime ago, somewhere .. as for 12 lbs second hand balls, does anyone have contacts ? .. my advice is get a ball of ur own n drill it to your specs, even though u r a newbie. if u r using houseball, u r at a big disadvantage and u r learning the wrong things. having a comfortable and snug fitting is so important to developing the right bowling swing, timing and stroke. becoz if u have a loose fitting ball (as in the case with most of house balls), you will grip the ball so hard that ur whole arm is tensed. ur swing will be controlled n ur release will be jerky and not as consistent as it could be. get a second hand one and drill it to ur hand specs. i was never ashamed to buy n use second hand balls n there's nothing wrong with them. the only perfect game i had is actually with a second hand ball which was about 10 yrs old. on top of that, the ball was a testing ball, so it didn't even have the proper labels! the way balls r made today, it's no longer necessary to use a 15 or 16lbs ball to hook it. the pros used to use 16lbs in the old days becoz they needed maximum momentum to drive through the pins. the newer balls today use weight distribution and advanced coverstock to generate the needed power. a 14lbs hook ball is just as effective as the heavier balls n is less taxing on ur fingers. u could try that and kelvio is right. with the right fitting, the ball doesn't feel heavy at all. gd luck.
