Hi there, hope some of you experts out there can help me out here:-

1. Downloading - yesterday i was downloading some things from the net, after downloading they just dont appear on the desktop (desktop as default downloading location) until i search for it with spotlight, why? AND how do i change the default download location?

2. Time Settings - i have already set my date and time and time zone as well, but did not want to sync time with Apple, cause i usually set my time 15 minutes ahead. But every now and then the time seems to change by itself, minutes remain same, but hour changes. Why? I tried locking the time setting but seems like it is still happening...

Thanks in advance!

Answer for Question 1 :

It happens to me sometimes, just restart and re-download, it will back to normal then. You may use "cocktail" http://www.maintain.se/cocktail/ to repair disk permissions if it happen again. You may change your default download location by :

a) Go to safari "Preference"
b) under "general icon" you may select the "save downloaded files to" dropdown function to anywhere you want.

For Question No.2 :

Perhaps you may go to "system preference", select the "Date & Time" icon and set your time manually again and "unclick" the "set date & time automatically" button and press "save".

Thanks for all the answers, I'll try the download thingy and see how, btw i'm using firefox. Is there a "Refresh" folder function? I thought of refreshiing the desktop and the items will eventually appear..

Anyway for the time, i've already unchecked the "set date & time automatically" thats why i wonder why does it change still. Is there any other thing that may affect time settings?

YES I'm running boot camp with Windows XP! Haha..

I have the EXACT thrash problem too, couldnt empty the thrash, until i open it up, click on it one by one and it disappears one by one! Haha..

Thrash problem is ok, but downloaded files a bit tricky, cause there's nothing to click on, until i search for it in spotlight, click on it and it appears on the desktop..

I just found out the problem with time setting, seems like my Windows time and Mac time are not the same, each time i change them, the other will change, difference of 8 hours. They just keep making themselves different.

I've checked the time zones, both are set correctly, also tried cheating my Windows by setting another time zone to get the correct time, but still my Mac time changes with it, 8 hours difference.

Any help?

Oh another thing, will having Windows partition slow down the Mac operation?

8 hours is because u are setting it as malaysian time (+8 hours).....
mine is the same also.....but both settings are in malaysian time...

one more thing....mine seems to be working fine now.....everything back to normal....my time doesnt run, the things i downloaded appears nicely and my trash don't act funny anymore...

i dont really know what i've done....but it seems to be fine now...

The problem is, whichever I set the correct time, the other would be 8 hours behind time. Boot camp bug? I'm using the 1.1 beta already.

These things are making me feel like deleting the windows thing. How to delete windows totally and restore the hard disk to Mac? The only reason i want windows is to sync my windows mobile 2003se to it. Perhaps I should invest in "Missing Sync" instead (darn expensive! USD39.95)
