Take AirAsia X fly into Gold Coast, and then take Virgin into Melbourne

If u dont have much baggage (ie travelling back for hols) i don't see Y that option shouldn't be considered; just give urself a bit more time on the transit flight cause u wouldn't want to miss the connecting flight due to a delay.

And no.. I didn't travel that way - Virgin wasn't even operating when I was studying in Australia

yeah, brunei Air is good =D cheap, and i'm near to brunei, around 2 hours of drive to it ^^

anyone studying in monash or sydney?? Where do you guys live? I'm guessing probably in dorm right?? If yes...then do you guys find your housing before arriving in Australia or after?? Did you guys search it online before going??

yeah, but its more handy if i use wireless, cos i dont think my accomodation is fixed. just got news that there is no space in the hostel =.= crap.... so i've to go to homestay even though i'm 18 =( so if i get a fixed line broadband it'll be kinda troubling. so wireless got into my mind =D bandwith is a prob but i'll get hold of it. btw thanks KVR for the link ^^

annyway.... my mom says tat if i go for homestay mayb i'll get out of there after 1 sem. get my own hostel or live with someone else. i'm not 100% staying in perth for my uni oso.

Whatever you do, try not to get Dodo as it sucks big time. It may be cheap, but the speed is slower than streamyx, or rather around the same speed. :S

On side note, I just got an offer from Melbourne Uni for medicine.
