QUOTE(ianho @ Sep 21 2006, 01:15 AM)
It's a damn cool idea man. It's purpose is sorta like a 3 dimensional fan cover. The cross with the Dope logo covers the intake fan in the middle of the acrylic window.
@ Acey, is that centre intake fan a  LED fan? It'll b really cool if it is. Coz the light from the fan will glow out from behind the cross n sorta gif the cross a floating look. Man, I'm so gonna copy this idea of ures in 1 of my mods in the future. Kekekekke I pay u 1 kopi-o for copyright licence.
*
Yep what Ian said is correct, it acts as a cover for the intake fan cos I dont really want the fan to show. And the fan's LED fan. Kopi-o can lar, teh tarik also can hahahaha

So the cross is almost done, I'd go for the simple look instead of ultra complicated things i've thought off since i suck when it comes to working with vinyls. I left my exacto knife (the ultra sharp blade used for cutting stickers/vinyls) back in Sarawak, but hopefully can get my parent to send them over cos I'll need them.

I might rip the side carbon fibre vinyls off, and the wordings as well. Then cut out another for the back and spray it black on the back to give the floating look. You just might see a different cross by tomorrow. Lol.

Today the sun is bad, really bad. Its cloudy when I woke up at 8.30, and at 10 still not bright. So I decided not to work on any paint job today... sigh. I'm still not sure if the epoxy can really hold the side panel's plexi but hopefully it does, if it doesnt, I'll have to go for double-sided tape. Thats all for now.

Dilemma and short attention span

I cant really pay a lot of attention on this project for the mean time. Have a lot goin in my mind, and the only moment I can concentrate on AA is when I'm actually working on it. So my ideas just come out of the blue, some jig cuts, slap it on with epoxy and see what I get.

Short attention span due to the the next mod, which basically is going to be huge, hopefully on an equal scale to Paul Capello's DOOM 3 mod. I asked him 1 question (and answered by the master himself), and there's gonna be a lot more to ask.

I'll need a lot, a lot, and a freakin lot of measurements, materials, and planned work. Might take me even 6 freakin months to plan, make changes, and re-plan for the work, material, and measurements. Damn the lack of knowledge in materials. Further more I need to dig up some old CDs where the initial plan was in it. Yes, the next mod has actually been delayed for a year plus.

It'll involve 3 towers, 2 AT towers (those Pentium or 486 cases) at sides, and 1 full ATX tower in the middle. Am looking n reading around about airbrush n compressor, Bondo or putty filler, styrene sheets and carving tools. If you know which movie contains the character Vincent Price, you'll have an idea what theme I'm going for next.

Update 8 - Part I

Yayyy updates... Night modding cos I know I wont be awake until 12pm today, true enough I only slept at 5-6am. Decided to test out my "theory" of a 3D look for the cross with some lighting. I think it failed to give the look I wanted, I think, but before the whole rig is set up, I'll say I failed to get the look for now.

It could be due to the black mouse pad at the background, but I'm not really sure if 4 CCFLs will be sufficiently bright enough to give it the shaded look for the cross.

Finished the side panel, but was in a dilemma in the process of finishing it (I've never done plexi + steel panel before). Stood over the panel and asking "silicone-epoxy-tape-silicon-epoxy-tape". So not wanting to screw it up when its already at this level, I decided to go with the double sided tape. I'll experiment with the silicone glue some other time. Decided to go for a border for the cross. So here are the pixies:

Time for the chasis to come into play and test the side panel. I do worry if the plexi prevents the side panel from closing right. Oh ya, I decided to drop the Lian Li PSU to ROM holder cover thing idea. The crap case is too tight to get a piece of 2.5mm bent plexi into the slot. So this morning I cut out another plain square piece that will be finished off tomorrow.

Fn hate LYN's policy of "you posted more images than allowed". At TBCS, I just chuck as many images as I want and the post will swallow it. Maybe its time they should do something like this for LYN's case mod section.

Update 8 - Part II

Now putting the side panel up, first without the cross, second with the cross. It seems like I dont even need some bolts for the hexagon studs that's holding the cross.

Installed some of my warez into the case to test it first. Chose Susurro over other coolers as the case doesnt give much space so I dont really wanna buy a big ass heatsink and then find it making out and smooching the plexi side panel 24/7.

And finally.. yuck.. fingerprints!

T'sall for today. Will start working on the top panel tomorrow. Btw, any of you have any idea how to take off the bottom 2 screws of Cooler Master eXtreme Power 430W PS? I can take off the top 2 but cant take off the bottom 2, and I really dont wanna leave it in its ugly greenish-grey colour. Bye.

Front panel work... minor update. Rainy afternoon so decided to take all my tools in and cant continue. The cut's bent cos I ripped off the masking tape tad too early. Well, no one's gonna see it either once the front panel's done. Then there's the rubbish plastic used for the panel, it melts really horribly during sawing. So have to knock it out with the end of my file and starts filing the melted edges clean.

The whole idea is to get another face plat on the front of it, and leave some gaps at the side for the cooling fan to do its intake. Am still thinking if I should drill some holes at the side to screw the finished plexi in. The plexi's not even done yet, I need to get the total height measurement so I'll know where to bend and cut. I wanna cover the whole panel but the ROM slot's givin me plenty of sleepless nights as well.

Fixed the coupling nut (yeah, i've found out what its called) with silicone glue. Just a test phase, if it doesn't hold strong, then epoxy it is. Drilled 6 holes on both sides, apply some glue to the leg of the nut, push it in, and a huge blob of silicone at the back. I'll get back to it tomorrow, in the office by the way. Heh.

Update 9

Got off work at 3am, so need to balance my sleeping time a lil. So worked on the face plat for the front panel. Sketch it out with some big holes for intake. Changed my idea from going for a flat panel to something more conventional, and no bending as well.

Used a saw to cut out the whole piece, and then it's already 5am so I just gotta wait a lil while to start my jig. Mwahahahaha the attack of the bladeless saw killer:

user posted image

Hahhhh! Morning! The sun's freakin bright and hot just like how I wannit. After filing the bloody sides its time to cut. If you look at the pic below, notice the red circle. I'll tell a short story for primary school story telling competition.

user posted image

First cut, the ROM space, so-so done. Filed. Second cut, first intake space, perfect. Filed. Third cut, Off/On button gap, so-so done cos the space is as tight as a virgin. Fourth cut, lower intake space, so-so done as I need to becareful not to crack the tiny space between the intake space and Off/On button gap. Last cut. KNN. When I was turning the jig, it went out of control. Kena possess by Pontianak Haram Sundal Pagi Cyberjaya bahhhh. The thing went "weeeeeeeuuuuukkkkkk", did some Initial D like drift, and I ended up with a bigger hole. Then my neighbours must think I'm crazy. For I talk to a jigsaw. "Why do you have to pull that shit on me on the last cut, dammit?".

After that collect my already-dried default front panel. Sucks but its gonna get all covered up with shiny black plexi when I'm thru with it.

user posted image

user posted image

So then I did some 1+1 = 2 thing.

user posted image

That's all. I was dying for a sleep. And I only slept for 5 hours. There's still another 70% to do for the front panel. Yep, what u saw's only 30%. Sorta. Umm.. maybe. I think so.

Yeah, you really cant work when you're pissed. So normally when i have one of those PMS mood swing during modding, I just place it in the storeroom and watch some DVDs.

FYI, there will be a couple of modding and non-modding updates.

1. Will get tattooed on Monday so I wont be doin any mods while in pain for like a week to 10 days.

2. The front panel is going to be thrown away, and replaced with my initial plan of bending them, with much better cuts of course (Thanks to TBCS forummer a.Bird's advice). So yeah, Im gonna delete the pix of the acrylic from this worklog for now.

3. There are shit loads of great mods on TBCS, go read them up.
