Even if you can, there is no guarantee that Microsoft does a sweeping check on the authenticity of your hardware component and lock you out later once they found out that you have messed with the firmware of your DVDROM drive, as what many pirates are doing right now. There is no motivation to flash the firmware other than to play these pirated copies, so dont give me bullshit about homebrew apps or excuses like that.

Even so, those who are playing pirated copies on their 360 are out of the loop when it comes to software patches and updates, especially those that makes the games and the machine run smoother. Certain games like DOA4 and COD2 have downloadable software patches that resolves critical issues in their respective games, so you cheapskates are stuck with buggy versions of the games, since you are locked out from downloading these patches from Live. Most importantly, Microsoft is also prepping a new major Dashboard/System update that allows that infamous 1080p resolution with a few other enhancements/streamlining for the 360 and obviously the cheapskates are left with their tongue lolling for this. Dont come back here whining about how buggy your machine is since Microsoft are shipping out updates but you are too cheapo to get your machine legitimately running.

hahaha. the shops in sg. wang are a real joke lah. i went to one and i asked him for the price for original and he goes like "why u want original?? game also expensive, wanna play online also expensive, wasting money only" i didnt know whether to be pissed or laugh at his stupidity. another shop i asked for the price for an original game and he asked me " ur xbox not modified yet ar?" then i said no. " haiyoh...bring here lah i do for you". i said...its ok man..i wanna be able to go on LIVE. and he's like " modified also still can play online what" hahahhaa. freaking conman.

I guess modded x360 console cant sell that why they r pushing the sales for it. Most ppl going for ORIGINAL !!! 

Not true. An xbox360 with a modded firmware dvdrom can still go online and download all the patch updates and downloadable contents for all the games. What's even more surprising is that u can also play multiplayer on LIVE. So currently u can play any pirated copies exactly like the original would. But obviously that won't last long, the next dashboard update would definitely resolve all this.

And if you are referring to the initial patch update that comes with some or all these pirated games when you put in on a modded 360 (yes, i have tried those at TNL), these are patches that comes with the game disc, . I sure hope for these cheapskates' sake that they can actually download a patch off Live and apply them via online if future enhancements/upgrades are available. Playing alone is sad and pathetic, but hey, who am i to say anything if people want cheap thrills like these cheapskates?

^haha, i guess those in charge of xboxlive are merely doing a survey. gathering info on the numbers of xboxlive players playing backups (of games they own!?) can be useful to formulate effective countermeasures. maybe they'll just charge their c.cards with another yr of live subscription and immediately ban them until they reflashed their dvdroms

Anyone know if playing pirated DVDs (movies) will damage the lense? I asked the person I bought my Xbox from and he tells me it might damage or scratch the lense etc.

Yes, yes, what i meant was u can actually download such patch updates or any downloadable contents from online via LIVE, not from the disc.
