that message refers to the upgrade only. it just means you cannot use the tool included in upgrade to do rollback[COLOR=red]. during the upgrade, necessary folders/files for rollback are created for the purpose. a reset removes everything, including these folders/files, so you cannot do it because the files are missing.

no. there will be no option for that after a reset. but you still can do a fresh install.

I am confused now... What do you mean ?
Do u mean i have to download the win8.1 installation files form the internet and reenter the activation key after doing reset if i wanna go back to win8.1 ? After doing reset , I can only goin back to win8.1 manually ( download the win8.1 installation files) ? But not thru the win10 recovery options there?

i think i will do a reset first。worst to worst , just send the laptop to pc shop and ask them to do a clean install for my pc . Need to save a key license for win8.1 as well ? Or windows 8.1 will automatically detect the license once i reinstall win8.1 ? how to reveal the license ? it's not stated in the windows sticker...
edit : I have tried a third party software to reveal the code before upgrading to win10 ...The product key is also known as CD key ? there're Product ID and Cd key in the log files generated from the software , but no Product Key ...

Since your laptop comes with stock w8.1, the key is in your bios. The iso that matches your stock w8.1 (correct windows version) should never ask for key and retrieve it from the bios to proceed with installation.

There are plenty of tools that can retrieve the key for the bios, including rweverything, belarc advisor, nirsoft produkey, many more. Use search engine to locate them.

do u mean if i wanna revert back to win8.1 after doing reset in my win10 , then when i install back win8.1 , it will not ask for the ProductKey again ? it will detect the ProductKey automatically?

Here is what i did in order to get advantages for this newly Windows 10 OS & get problems / bugs free. My devices is ASUS N53 series laptop with clean installation of Windows 10 Home x64

1. Perform ugrade from your Windows 7 SP1 or 8.1 using upgrade reserve or Media Creation Tool. Later, make sure the windows is activated. This is a MUST step in order to get Windows activated the official way.

2. Later, perform Clean installation from your created ISO USB / DVD burn disk by formating the OS(C:\) partiton. You will get a fresh OS later on. All the files/software inside C drive will delete. Skip for key request during clean installation process

3. Connect your Ethernet such as Streamyx (Setting in Stremyx modem remain unchanged, just the DNS server address in your Ethernet connect devices change to automatically by Microsoft. You can change it later on to Stremyx DNS or Google DNS) to get access to internet.

4. Perform this manual driver installation steps (in this case, ASUS N53 series laptop). Restart when required.

- Manual install the Realtek HD Audio Driver/Software. For low sound issues in Realtek, just change it in Realtek Software setting (disable the environment setting, play around with bit rate)
-  Manual install the Nvidia Geforce Driver
- Manual install the ASUS ATK Package for Windows 10 to solve out the Fn keys issues in Windows 10. After installation, tick the button in ATK App to access the Fn keys

5. Perform the Windows Update to download all the drivers update / Microsoft bugs fix. Restart when required.

6. Check the ”Device Manager” to make sure there is no error for all your built in driver. If error occur, just right click the driver and perform ”driver software upgrade” Microsoft will search & fix the problem for you. Make sure that the connection is on.

7. Install those ”optional features” from setting/ Control Panal. Make sure that the connection is on.

- Chinese/Malay/India languages pack (for keyboard typing, handwriting, speech) from optional features
- Language pack for OS language if you require from Control Panel language setting
- Microsoft. Net features from optional features
- Direct X Utility features from optional features
- Install the free Offline Maps for Malaysia from Microsoft built in App ”Here Maps”

8. Perform all the necessary software installation that you required. Here is some tips

- For me, Windows Defender is well enough for average users to get protection from virus or malware. There is not necessary to install another antivirus/ malware software to get protected. It will confuse & cause the OS to slow down
- You can also install Libre Office (latest beta version is great) to replace Microsoft Office
- No need to install additional adobe flash player because Microsoft Edge, IE & Chrome is built inside adobe flash player. On the others hand, Firefox & Opera require to install additional adobe flash player
- Install the Java Runtime Environment software because some software or browser may need it

9. For external devices such as the smartphone, printer, USB devices & external hardisks, just plug n play and allow Windows to search for necessary drivers for installation purposes

10. Set up all those setting in you control panel, software & apps You are feel to go & enjoy this final version of Microsoft OS for a very long time until your device is dead. It is excellent in a nutshell with clean installation !!!

Hopefully the above guides will help you all. Thanks

u cannot turn off windows update in windows 10. But can turn off "choose how updates are delivered" via "advance option" in windows update to prevent stealing of some kind of P2P bandwidth
*
Really no way to turn off the updates? Then all those guide are fake? If really no way to disable updates, then I should roll back to win8.1. Coz I will be starrting my tertiary studies soon, not convenient to update in the future...

I think I have downloaded all the updates thru the Windows updates . Yet , the installation progress stucked at ' preparing for install-0% ' Do u face the same problem? I clicked the details and saw that all the updates are waiting for install. Finally , error code 0x800705b4 shown. doh.gif

it's a compatible driver. manufacturers usually use same parts to make products, so the drivers released by one manufacturer can be used in products made by other manufacturers that have the same parts.

looks like lenovo is more hard working than asus in your case.
*
lol.I have installed all the updates successfully . Satisfied with win 10 so far ... The UI is responsive and fluid .

yes. if you created a system image (or a clone of your system drive) before upgrade, things will be much easier.

patience is key. i have tested w10 since previews to make sure that all can function well before i upgrade. for my work machines, i decided to stay at w8.1. for machines at home, i upgraded them.
*
what makes you not to upgrade to win 10 for ur work machine ? win10 running quite well , right ? Which function cant work ?

Definitely backup bro! Cuz windows 10 is relatively new, it supports latest model hardware but not sure for older hardware, so to be safe just backup. Or just go to Asus website and see if your laptop driver for Windows 10 are already available for usage.

Lol. Asus just released a few updates for win10 namely bios updates, security updates, but not audio driver , bluetooth driver, graphics driver and etc.
