Anyone can tell me whether I can enjoy the win 10 for lifetime after convert to it from win 8? I just wondering if let say I already convert to win10 in first year and after few years I want to reformat my computer, can I apply the license code to win 10 I download? Or I have to stick back to win 8...
*
i think so. if you have a legit key, you should be able to do that. however it's still early to tell.

Yes.. Still too early to tell.. Cause if can't, I will wait for win 10 launch then only buy the disc. In the mean time just use win 8.1 preview version for my new computer.. =)

uh? if you're looking for confirmation on upgrade eligibility from current windows to w10, i guess it has been announced a few months ago. all w7 and 8.x users are eligible for the free w10 upgrade plan in its first year of release.

as for your question about preserving activations after upgrade, i believe it can be done. what we are still not sure is how it is done. also, answers to questions like how much do they charge? is there a discount for early adopters? still needs time to confirm. they might improve the current upgrade paths (which they kind of failed miserably at early stages) to make it easier.

so just wait and see smile.gif

Anyone is using now and how is it

i think it's the news about the announcement that w10 might be released earlier (late summer or early falls).

currently it's still some distance from ready. some merging of ui happened but that's about it. recent trends also show that manufacturers are releasing drivers more frequently than usual.

QUOTE(bananalow @ Mar 18 2015, 06:34 PM)
I'm aware of the eligibility to convert win 7, 8 to win 10. It just that I am more concern with the preserving activation. If it can preserve for life-long( even decade is good enough), I won't hesitate to buy the win 8 disc now. It just that no confirmation yet from Microsoft and I do not want to risk it to buy a win8 where win10 is only months away from launch date.  biggrin.gif
*
life-long? i don't think that's necessary haha you can always call ms when the activations failed.

alternatively, the way i preserve activations is to create system images. i do this whenever there are windows updates, so that when i do restore, the os will be activated, everything is in place, and i don't need to go through updates again and again. as long as i don't have much key hardware changes (especially mobo and cpu), this works well.

Sad I can't upgrade to this cool windows, my laptop software features only compatible to win8.

Oh well, time to buy new one.

what's your laptop? if it can run w8 it's likely to work fine. i have used my laptops with w7 (stock), 8, 8.1 u3, and then this wp 10 tp.

Yea... the icon's somehow doesn't blend in UI... it's plain simple and cheap... maybe cost cutting on icon designing? too much hassle ? LOL...

thumbup.gif  Windows 8.1 now.... after going though so much hardship on getting comfortable with the Metro UI... the icons is from Windows 7, so i am good.
but Windows 10 somewhat more crap. Revamped UI, explorer, themes doesn't give off a nice and comfortable. I find the icons from  Android Kitkat much more nicer.

Will skip Windows 10. Windows 8.1 all the way  thumbup.gif

maybe it's too early to comment anything cosmetic yet at this early stage. it's a technology preview.

just use whatever you feel comfortable.

Nah tried it but my laptop software is not compatible other than win 8.

Its old MSi GP60 btw.
*
oh. sorry but what do you mean by 'laptop software'? afaik i don't think msi will lock its machines that way. (i.e. fixing them to a particular os)

The one where by default cpu processor (blue light) change to graphic processor (orange light) when I launching game software.

I tried with win 7 and 8.1 both did not work properly and my laptop is noticeably very very slow compared to when I'm using win 8.

So I think I will stick with win 8 for this laptop and buy  a new one when win 10 launch.

Oh and its really suck this laptop does not support newer graphic driver which is a shame to you MSi.
*
this is just a driver/proprietary software compatibility issues. check out and update your bios/drivers/software here. http://www.msi.com/support/nb/GP60.html (please read and understand the upgrade notes carefully to avoid issues) there are drivers for w8.1 provided at that page. (i believe the software that you mentioned is called scm)

btw your laptop is not that old yet. my g55 is even older. and it runs w10tp without issues.

Omg didnt know it was SCM issue, I will try it when I have time, honestly 3 times resetting to factory mode is a hassle and it will take much times.

Thank you.
*
good luck smile.gif

yeah it's a painful process if you go factory reset mode.

you should try to use windows built-in tool to create a system image instead. the best part of a system image is that it is a snapshot of your current os, software, games, files, and settings, in their most up-to-date form as of the time of its creation. this means when you do a restore, you don't need to go through the whole upgrade path, plus further windows updating, driver/software patching, etc. it's already in the working form, with everything ready to go.

in your case, you should just create one after making sure everything works and updated in w8.1. it's very time saving, and the restore process should be much shorter.

It will expire. By then you should switch to the release.

No idea. Maybe you can set your computer time to the future (without connected to internet) and see what happen. For safety's sake unplug all other drives and use only boot drive to test.

do you mind sharing about what caused the 'so unstable' instability? for common use i don't feel anything weird about 349.90.

No idea but I suspect it's go to do with memory management.

I alt tab a lot and most of my games are run in windowed fullscreen

EDIT: You can refer to the nvidia forums and reddit.. I'm not the only one with the same issues smile.gif
*
thanks for the pointers. you're playing games that's nice. i haven't played any on it. i believe there are still plenty of things that game developers have to do to make the games work nicer in w10.

i am playing games with w8.1, just recently updated to 349.90 via windows update. so far so good.

i guess later on we will have all esd files ready. currently they cannot be downloaded via MS links.

i just managed to grab the enterprise version of esd via mega. now trying to grab retail version via windows update. (at 90%)

edit: build 10049 installed. project spartan is a minimalist web browser.

windows update can sometimes fail but it works. Just give it a few tries. If you wanna get 10049, just set in advanced options to fast ring.

I left it run overnight, probably something did got updated - the list got shorter. I thought I say do not sleep/hibernate but......... dammit, checked the same power setting page and it says sleep after 30 min -.-

Now the update refuse to even connect again...
*
oh. i am not sure what happened, but mine is working fine here. it did get stuck from time to time, but it will resume after that.

all sorts of ui integrations and moving-around are still happening at this stage. for common usage i find it's getting better (things are making sense now compared to the last few builds)
