since many people are still very confused about this digital entitlement, ms has done something for them. after the upcoming w10 nov update, we can also use w7/8.x keys to activate w10.

in general it will work well, as long as there are compatible drivers for key parts in your laptop.

for today's usage, imo it's better to bump up the ram to at least 8gb.

since it's working fine after some brief tests on the common software that i use daily, i have deleted all old os and installation files from the system to regain about 25GB of space.

actually, after the update was downloaded, it will prompt you to restart the computer to proceed.

alternatively, you can try to use the offline method, i.e. using media creation tool and download the correct version for your computer, then run setup.exe to upgrade.

what do you mean? is this about cloning your physical os/system partitions to become a system image in the form of vhd, or just a virtual disk to store/back up photos (images)?

everything is good, except for a slight stuttering (short freeze) during boot. this machine didn't have that with build 10240.

yes. it's w10 1511, 10586. i used it to do a clean install previously. it's the same new iso released at msdn (i.e. they have the same sha1 sum. i have posted the check sums previously)

choose windows 10. note that w10 pro and home is in the same iso. as long as you have sufficient space, you can do an upgrade. if possible, it's better to do a clean install, to prevent any potential issues.

it's the same (there are slight differences but the outcome is the same). if you downloaded the iso the obvious advantage is that you don't need to download it again. (when there comes the time you need to do a clean install, you're ready as well) as for drivers, it's better to download all latest drivers into your computer or an external storage before upgrade.

like i said before, it's always better to prepare yourself for the worst. download the iso and necessary drivers; back up data; make system image; etc. so that you can recover from unforeseen system issues after upgrade.

a lot of people whined about this and that because they themselves make the upgrade a one-way trip. tbh i'm not really sure what points they are trying to make.

for 1511 installation, you should be able to use w7/w8.1 key. if it doesn't work, there is small link on the same page that says, 'i don't have a product key'. click on that and you can proceed. you will reach another page that ask for the key somewhere at the end of the installation, skip it too. once the freshly installed os is connected to internet it's activated automatically.

maybe try call ms support for help. first make sure the right version of windows for that product key is installed. at administrative command prompt, type slui 4. select country, then call the toll-free numbers.
