what Cynox said. i have tested the same also.

since many people are still very confused about this digital entitlement, ms has done something for them. after the upcoming w10 nov update, we can also use w7/8.x keys to activate w10.

lol , the pc shop fellow told me i must downgrade to win 8 first , then only upgrade to win 10 to keep my ori license. shakehead.gif

in general it will work well, as long as there are compatible drivers for key parts in your laptop.

for today's usage, imo it's better to bump up the ram to at least 8gb.

4gb is enuf for me ion win 10 , haha biggrin.gif

w10 10586.3 upgrade was completed n my xps. it received the upgrade package via windows updates.

[attachmentid=5291811]

[attachmentid=5291813]

you can roll back to previous build if necessary:

[attachmentid=5291815]

[attachmentid=5291994]

since it's working fine after some brief tests on the common software that i use daily, i have deleted all old os and installation files from the system to regain about 25GB of space.
*
i received the updates just down, after finished downloading , it said it vouldnt be installed , well , i have restarted my pc and check the update again , it said my pc is up-todate . how to get the updates again? i checked the update history , no installation of this update found

actually, after the update was downloaded, it will prompt you to restart the computer to proceed.

alternatively, you can try to use the offline method, i.e. using media creation tool and download the correct version for your computer, then run setup.exe to upgrade.
*
where to download the media creation tool for the major update ? how big is the file ? i have previously download the iso ? it's 3gb .... hopefully its not 3gb anymore.... coz i already have win 10( not sure about the build no ) installed on my pc .

what do you mean? is this about cloning your physical os/system partitions to become a system image in the form of vhd, or just a virtual disk to store/back up photos (images)?

for the first one, i saw a small program in sysinternals suite called disk2vhd, but i never used it before. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/default.aspx
i have posted the mct link in the previous page. well, for x64 only version it's confirmed with a size of 3gb+ (i have it). i think you can throw away the old one.
*
If download it thru windows update also need 3gb?

i just completed a clean install with the iso linked above.

everything is good, except for a slight stuttering (short freeze) during boot. this machine didn't have that with build 10240.

What's the difference between this and previous version?

yes. it's w10 1511, 10586. i used it to do a clean install previously. it's the same new iso released at msdn (i.e. they have the same sha1 sum. i have posted the check sums previously)
*
Can you provide link for me to download the latest version (win10 home 64 bit). I didn't clean install last time when I upgrade from win8...is it okay if I upgrade it to 10586 WITHOUT clean install?

it's the same link posted previously, https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/techbench

choose windows 10. note that w10 pro and home is in the same iso. as long as you have sufficient space, you can do an upgrade. if possible, it's better to do a clean install, to prevent any potential issues.

the current build number has become 10586.11 (due to patches via windows updates after 10586.3, the build number of w10 1511)

actaully i was thinking about not to upograde first , but the windows update is taking up my network bandwith , so i think i should downlad the iso form somewhere then run in at my computer .... is it recommended to do the upgrade thru windows update ? will i have to reinstall the driver again ?

it's the same (there are slight differences but the outcome is the same). if you downloaded the iso the obvious advantage is that you don't need to download it again. (when there comes the time you need to do a clean install, you're ready as well) as for drivers, it's better to download all latest drivers into your computer or an external storage before upgrade.

like i said before, it's always better to prepare yourself for the worst. download the iso and necessary drivers; back up data; make system image; etc. so that you can recover from unforeseen system issues after upgrade.

a lot of people whined about this and that because they themselves make the upgrade a one-way trip. tbh i'm not really sure what points they are trying to make.
*
how to create system image ? if i create system image , then i dont have to prepare all the drivers in external storage anymore ? is there anyway to prevent the windows update to donwnload the update ? coz i feel that my network speed slowed down when i am not using my pc in power saving mode, coz the windows is downloading the update behind . ( i checked the resource monitor and found that the netsvcs is running when it is not in power saving mode. )

for 1511 installation, you should be able to use w7/w8.1 key. if it doesn't work, there is small link on the same page that says, 'i don't have a product key'. click on that and you can proceed. you will reach another page that ask for the key somewhere at the end of the installation, skip it too. once the freshly installed os is connected to internet it's activated automatically.

i just did a clean install (skipping all the places that asked for key) after the previous 1511 update.
*
But the problem is he was asked to activate his win8 too, but he enter the product key that he kept, still can't be activated...he then run the windows 10 iso which is released on few months ago, and he was asked for the product key too...how?

w8 or w8.1?

maybe try call ms support for help. first make sure the right version of windows for that product key is installed. at administrative command prompt, type slui 4. select country, then call the toll-free numbers.

This is the only way? 8.1
