Indeed. The gold feels much more premium. Isn't it the same with jewellery? For the grey, you would really have to notice hard to see that it is an ip6 because it's all dark coloured and doesn't show off the Ip6 's rounded shape.

I do have the same idea like you but am afraid of public backlash. I still remember last year when I was waiting for the staff at Maxis to unbox my Gold Ip5s while I was surfing the net using my earlier Sg set of Gold Ip5s on one hand. I could still remember the faces of the other customers who came in and enquired about the phone but couldn't get it as during launching it was pre order for all Maxis sets. I dare not think of how many swears and curses the other customers would have made at me.
