Safe mode on PPC



Description:
SafeMode for PocketPC is a system utility, designed to help you in certain situations when your PDA may freeze or enter a soft-reset loop.

It behaves somewhat similar to the original Safe Mode on Windows PCs, by not loading 3rd party startup programs, today plugins or services.

This way, you have the possibility of uninstalling programs that freeze your PocketPC.

How it works:
- If your PDA freezes or enters a soft-reset loop, soft-reset it. In a few seconds, you will see a message in the upper part of the screen, asking you to: "Press Action to enter safe mode".
- If you press "Action" within 3 seconds, the PDA will soft-reboot again and enter safe mode.
- A blue "Safe Mode" screen will appear instead of the standard Today window.
- In Safe Mode, the Startup programs and Today plugins are not started, allowing you to remove the buggy software - hopefully not one of my programs
- On next normal soft-reset, if you don't press the "Action" key, the Startup programs and Today plugins are started normally.

Features:
- Plays a warning sound (you can have a "safemode.wav" file in your Windows folder, if that doesn't exist, it plays the default "Voicbeep.wav").
- Disables Startup Applications.
- Disables System Services.
- Disables 3rd party SIP plugins (only the standard Keyboard, Block Recognizer, Letter Recognizer and Transcriber are loaded).
- Disables Today plugins.
- Landscape/VGA support.
- SafeMode background is now the default PocketPC theme image.
- Small memory requirements (14 KBytes).
- Since it's a Service application, it doesn't reduce the number of available processes that can be run on the PocketPC (you may or not know, for some reason, Microsoft limited the number of simultaneous running applications to 32). Many PocketPCs come with a LOT of applications already running at startup, leaving just a few slots available to your favorite apps.
- Language independent (it works on localized versions of PocketPC 2003/2003SE.
- Includes a help file that is automatically launched on installation; Help file is also available from Start -> Help, and choose "SafeMode for PocketPC".

Cruzzmz: Thanks for your help. Actually I did tat from the very first day but still dont think it worked at all. Each time I tap X in a program although it seems to be closed, when i open O2Plus it shows that programs is still running and I gotta close it for good at the second time. Sigh dunno wat's up man... Anyway your links have been put in front and are up to date. I think Ive become so much like a LYN junkie my frens all tease me that I soon gonna be moderator or owner of this site...

haih...my wife mini sent to hospital ady...after two days oni can get back...but i cant come out from my Uni during weeksdays...wahhh...so have to "fan shao" with my mini for a week....

o2 customer service center is quite friendly...if you guys got problem it is strongly recommend to send there...cheers...

Just got a mini. 2nd hand though. Still new with ppc system....been using symbian for 4 years. (SICK of it ) any good stuff that i should install to make it work better / cooler plus what do i need to tweak it for me to really be able to fully utilise this machine? No need worry about lack of storage when using WIFI...

Found that many mini user here are either new or not very familiar with it. I found it easier to pick up compared to Symbian. Mayb its due to the fact that I have used 7710 which happens to be a Symbian with touchscreen. And on top of it, I like how we are able to change or alter the interface to suit our daily usage which is pretty much impossible with Symbian.

I strongly suggest spend a little bit of time with it. I took about 2 weeks to finally get grip with it. During the 2 weeks, I hard reset, soft reset and even flashed my rom. There's nothing to be afraid of. Just dont do the wrong thing at the wrong time. Just do a search on the internet. Read the guide and as long as you dont do something very wrong, its wont make the device dead. I even help my sis's bf restore his K750 menu using guide from internet when SEUS failed him. The main thing to remember is to look for taboo and make sure you dont break the taboo or you're dead.

Install directory to your storage/storage card.
To install your application/program to storage memory or storage card memory. Whenever you are about to install, there will one screen appear to ask you where to install the program. But not to forget to change it back the default value to 0 after the installation or u might encounter weird situation when you want to change your today screen and etc..

Disabling "Message Sent" notification bubble
For those who hates the "Message Sent" notification after sending an SMS, this is the steps to remove the bubble notification...this is the STEP by STEP method to do it in case some of you guys dont get it right...
1. First, you will need to download a Registry Editor to help you do it...
2. using the Registry Editor, navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Inbox
3. Next, click on Inbox (make sure the Inbox is highlighted) and select Edit, New Key
4. Name the New Key as "Settings"
5. Click on "Settings" (make sure the Settings is highlighted) and select Edit, New String Value
6. On "Value name:", key in SMSNoSentMsg and in "Value data", key in 1
7. Soft reset your device and test it with one SMS, and you will notice that the SMS Sent bubble is being disabled

Audio Tweak enhances the speaker performance of the O2 Mini (some devices have this set to a lesser priority and by using this you get better sound, if your device is already set to a high level you have no need for this)

Ring tone has a standard 3 seconds delay before repeating. You can set the delay from 0 second to how many second that you want.

f - means flash .. f1 flash for 1 second and f0 stands for flash continuously

w - stands for wait or pause then specify how many seconds like w3(wait for 3 seconds)

Change The Date on The Top Bar

Look for String value SSDte (short date) and change the value data, some example of date formats i have used below:
- "7 May 05, Friday" by changing the String value SSDte data = d MMMM yy, dddd

To include both time and date in taskbar
1) Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\
2) Create a binary value named "TBOpt" and set its value to "13 00 00 00".
3) Soft-reset
Note: If u ever get bored of the date display, rid it by deleting the TBOpt key.
Phase 2: IF U NEED THE CHANGE THE DATE FORMAT:
i) Just go to Settings>Regional Settings>Date>Short Date
