Q30? Well... this looked promising and I do hope it is 'affordable' or should I put it as 'reasonable'. I guess this Q20 will only be available AFTER the BB Passport's launch which we still do not know when.

Right now I think they are set with 2.5k battery. The specs they are testing come in 3 variants, and 3 sizes.

1) same as Q10 (everything)
2) extended form factor, upgraded battery to 2.5k mAH
3) take everything inside a Z30, and put into Q20 (now the latest test model is this)

They were doing testing with 3 batteries, 1.5kmAH, 2550 and the 3xxx battery. (I think around 3100, that's Passport's battery)

We won't know what's the end result, but its safe to say its no more blueprint, and now they're on hardware testing and finalizing details.

Don't think so. If you're talking Dual core Snapdragon 600 1.7GHz with Adreno 320 (Quad core Adreno 320, same as the one in Z30) then you're looking at some extremely overpowered GPU for the screensize. That is assuming they're settling for the Z30 spec on the phone.

Will surely buy this Q20.

Track pad with menu & back buttons: navigation, selecting & copy text is so zippy.

If you look at BlackBerry's offerings, the Q20 is considered middle to high end, although technically it can be considered low end on Android.

I don't see the phone lower than Rm1400, but it should not be higher than RM1700.

Read from some news saying that its price would be between USD 399 to USD 429. So it should be around RM 1300 i guess.

hey guys, I've been to digitall mall yesterday in PJ to find a Q10 but no shops had them. Do you know any shop in KL (bukit bintang maybe?) that still has and sells the Q10 new?

I was at a hotlink counter yesterday, and the lady could order me a new Q10 for RM1599........ I have no idea why that's so expensive.

2 - 3 years ago i would think the price of this phone would launch at RM1,800 to RM2,200 but today i would think retailers here in M'sia would probably sell it anywhere between RM1,400 - RM1,700.

Soon, very soon. 10 days and counting.

And I believe you can already PRE-ORDER if you know the correct channels.

What do I mean correct channels?

In the past BlackBerry partners exclusively with only 1 telco. In Malaysia it used to be Celcom.

Today the pattern with BlackBerry (at least in Europe and in North America) is that they sell it direct via shopblackberry.com and Amazon

So i'm not sure how, but this will be VERY FUN.

Brightstar has upgraded status from "sell if somebody wants" to "full push and support". Good times are coming for BlackBerry!

As most folks should know by now, in addition to the traditional navigation keys, the BlackBerry Classic also sees the return of time-saving default shortcuts that were missing from previous BlackBerry 10 smartphones. Sure, BlackBerry 10 launched with around 200 shortcuts included, but some of those that many felt 'made a BlackBerry a BlackBerry' were missing. The BlackBerry Classic fixes that in a few ways.

Rather than just adding the old shortcuts back into the operating system they've actually improved upon them.
One is through the default shortcuts, and the other is through the BlackBerry 10.3.1 software which allows you to customize the shortcuts to suit your personal needs. You can set letter specific speed dials, shortcuts to launch apps, and even customize which letters launch the compose action, which is not linked into any one type of message. This means you can set the shortcut to compose an email, a BBM message, or even a tweet.

Have a look at some of the default actions built into the OS:

Launch the Browser – B
Compose a Message – Within the BlackBerry Hub – C
Launch the Weather App – W
Launch the Calculator – U
Launch BBM – N
Lock BlackBerry Classic – K
Toggle Notification Modes – Q
Launch Settings – O
Open Contacts/Address Book – A
Launch Help – H
Create a new Note - D
Launch Phone - P
Launch Clock - R
Use these shortcuts in the Hub and email to be even more productive:

R - Reply to Message
L - Reply to All
F - Forward Message
T - Go to top of inbox (or message)
B - Go to bottom of inbox (or message) N - Move to the next date
P - Move to the previous date
U - Move to the next unopened item
S - Search inbox

I can understand, people love shortcut keys but I cannot understand what is so interesting with trackpad when we already can control using touch screen.

I can understand, people love shortcut keys but I cannot understand what is so interesting with trackpad when we already can control using touch screen.

Sorry, I've never been using BB with physical keyboard before.

I understand your concern. Blackberry device is all about productivity. Having a trackpad or "touch-sensitive" keyboard (For BB passport) will allow the user hands always on the keyboard and not the screen. With practice, user can focus on constructing email and messages without the hassle of touching and holding the screen for edditing purposes.

Secondly it is also the idea of engaging the customers. Older BlackBerry users who do not enjoy the idea of physical keyboards actually left the platform. Those who stayed around actually do have, to a certain extent, lingering attachment to the functionality of a BlackBerry, and that includes even the trackpad, as "backwards" as it may seem.

The BlackBerry Passport is a compromise in this, as it has everything the classic has, sans the toolbelt. However, it is also different from the Q10 because the entire keypad itself is a humongous trackpad and also emulates the function of a BlackBerry virtual keyboard. Judging from the initial response i think BlackBerry customers are very happy with the new direction, and thus in the future there will be templates for three keyboards, the full physical + toolbelt, the full touchscreen and a hybrid (maybe with, maybe without toolbelt, most likely without)

In respect to the q20 it should probably keep the existing corporate customers from leaving BlackBerry (note, BlackBerry at this point can just go on as a pure MDM/EMM company without selling phones, but that is another story) and probably be tempting enough to have corporations to consider buying the BlackBerry Classic and deploy it to their employees as a COPE (corporate owned, personally enabled) device and slap in an MDM of their choice (BlackBerry has opened up their BlackBerry 10 phones to be manageable by other MDM services) but i would expect the Classic to surpass the sales of the Passport. I think its the shrewdest move BlackBerry has done so far.

For a phone with the same innards as Q10, the price is a bit too high for my liking.

It all boils down if you cannot live without the navigational strip and slightly smaller screen

Personally, I still find it a bit puzzling why BB still ignoring sliders. An upgraded Torch anyone?

US retailing at $499, so it's not a cheap phone. :'(

Will have to wait a bit longer and see how it goes. Was really hopping to see the price on the lower RM1k side.

<rm1k... hmm... how I wish though but it is impossible for newly launch unless if there is Q30 coming out and Q20 will be <rm1k by then...

It is USD449 for unlocked version, overpriced yeah. With the declining of the MYR against USD, I think BB Malaysia will price it at around 1.6-1.7k. Anything higher than 1.7k will only encourage the sale of Passport.

But then again, the phone looks cool in the unboxing video. cool2.gif

Ya 1588 seems fair enough, although many see it as the same Q10 hardware with the additional toolbelt feature only.

IIRC the time Q10 launched, it was priced more than 2k. Isn't it?

Yup. Q10 starting price is around 2200++ I think. So the Classic which is a definite upgrade of Q10, selling just below 1600 is a good deal.preloaded with 10.3 some more..

Anyone getting this instead of the Passport? Downside is they only offer a 24 months contract, kinda long time.

no celcom exclusive methinks. Local retailers are already selling with original warranty. Good for BlackBerry users, bad for Celcom (lewl, as if I care with their[Celcom] blood-sucking prices)

More retailers having it = ease of purchase.

So I called up the bb retail store at e@curve, and being quoted 1888 for the classic. I actually wanted to find out if they got demo unit but no. Yet they inform the 1588 price tag is only for celcom. Crazy.

Anyone here knows where can I try out the demo?

Hi all, can i check with you sifus whether waze is usable on Classic? or whether usable on os10. I have left BB 9310 about 2 years ago so not so up to date with it anymore.

Did a quick google and found some contradicting comments, some say have to side load but with some slight hiccups here and there, and some say just download straight from blackberry world and it works like a champ.

Please advise as it is important for me to have waze on my mobile and it is the only thing thats making me hesitant to get the blackberry. I'm very very very bad at remembering my way in klang valley unsure.gif

Thanks!

The bluecube at the MV lower level(same row with Pizzahut) has the CLASSIC demo unit as I just test it out. Overall experience for me is much like a upgraded version of Q10 with toolbelt, which is already expected(same hardware spec with Q10.)

As the demo unit sitting side by side with Passport, I especially like the backcover of Classic. If you are a current bold series user, you will fall in love at first sight. However, with just another RM500-600 difference of pricetag, I just feel like Passport is more of a bang for the buck. cool2.gif

That is Celcom Wifi bro. Some places (shopping malls) you can detect there is a Celcom Wifi where only Celcom subscribers can log in and use the network. It's a bummer that they still track how much bandwidth you use in these so called special Wifi area.

anyone own one yet?

1) I wish to know if VSCO Cam can install

2) and how's the USB-OTG ? is it seamless experience? Just plug in usb stick to usb-otg cable , and straight away can copy/write writes?

3) and how about plugging in camera to usb-otg ? on android, i plug in my camera, it loads up photo importer, then I select the photos

4) is there a way to set a global http proxy ? meaning , browsers and apps connection will go thru that proxy connection. on non-rooted android, I need to use an app like Drony, which creates a VPN chain to the http proxy

5) how are the sharing capabilities ? on android, I open a photo, I Can click Share to other apps. Can it share to other android apps ? That's something I wonder about

I'm not a heavy user, but most important to me are android apps like Waze, FB, Whatsapp, Instagram, VSCO cam.

Any Classic users care to share on the usage experience? Pros and cons? I'm trying to get a Z30 but til now still no luck. Might then get a Classic with contract with Celcom.

Appreciate any input on the experience like playing videos, games, maps etc.

hi guys. new to BB10 from BB7.1. May I know where to switch ON and OFF for the network LED (green led) ?

Also, for BB10 once you got a notification, the red LED blinks when the screen is dim and goes off once you activate the screen but haven't read the new message. Does that happens in BB10 as for my BB7.1, the red LED still blinks until I read the unread messages.

Previously owned the curve 8520 and the Torch 9810 nod.gif
But still find this device quite lacking in every aspect (especially the camera!) except for messaging and email sweat.gif
I believe the Passport is the flagship of blackberry so this is kinda expected from the Classic
If not so far liking the BlackBerry Classic!

Currently using it as primary phone, but together with an iPhone 6.
Cant use the BB Classic alone without the iPhone as I have alot of my business data on my iPhone and there are apps on the iPhone which BB dont have.

Thanks. Hope that the price will goes down a bit in time, because 1.5k is not that cheap with so many options(android phone) and etc. physical keyboard, and messaging system are the main attraction that make me think to get bb classic though.

so far how do you rate the battery life?

For me battery life is OK, but then I didnt really abuse the BB as I only use it for Whatsapp/SMS/Email and light internet surfing. Actually battery life is not really a concern for me as I use powerbanks if really need the juice nod.gif

Just bought the tempered glass-screen protector for bb classic yesterday at the 3r floor, RM40.00. Great quality indeed.

Is the only to do it via the Sideload method? (Have to install some program on Chrome etc.)

Want to install spotify too, some people said it was available on the Amazon app store but it isn't.

EDIT:Had some time to install Snap and managed to get GMaps and Spotify to work!

A little sluggish but it does the job pretty well.

no you don't need to convert. You just download the APK, then like any Android phone, install it. APK to BAR business.

never need to restart... I also do not remember when is the last round it needs to be restarted... If yes also, it is after some apps installation...

And nowadays, seeing it cannot be 'battery pull-out', it got a method to restart by holding the 'Power Button' for a period of counts, and it will restart... BB10 had 'upgraded'... thumbup.gif

I figure wechat in Q20 would be same as Q5 except the screen size. There only few thing bother me @ Q5
1. some photo/clip can't be seen
2. web wechat don't work with QR code generated

If I am wrong do let me know.

I'm thinking to get Q20. main this would be my main phone...use for calls, sms, whatsapp, fb messenger and hotspot for 1 other device. my current device is redmi note 2.

questions and what holds me back is:

1. I read that transfering and recovering whatsapp from android to Q20 aren't possible. What if I install whatsapp from google play and recover the chats using it? would it possible?

2. whatsapp end of support on june 2017. if install whatsapp from googleplay, can use past the dateline?

opss but i tried from bb to android ya, but not the other way round.. haha..

anyway i jus realised i didnt use any special software, jus using whatsapp version for BB, theres a function to export data to android phone. then it will save a file in the external sd card. put tat into android phone, then restore. biggrin.gif

one of the software i came across is Dr Fone Wondershare, they have software to backup the whatsapp into PC from android. then i suppose you can use that file to restore it into a BB phone.

goodluck!

yeah. i read that one that's built in in BB whatsapp. thanks bro.

EDIT: that Wondershare cannot transfer from android to bb.

it is sucks if i buy q20 just to try the transfer but end up didn't work.

EDIT 2: justa question. goggle drive backup can?

from my Q20 experience, better dont. I now use andriod phone for whatsapp. BB whatsapp a lot of function not working compared to android. Actually u try for 1 month and you will know what i am talking about especially you have a lot of chat groups. Later if Whatsapps update with more functions, they will not be available in BB.
*
from my understanding, when we install whatsapp for android in BB, that means, the whatsapp actually falls under android support. which would also means, any functions available for android should be available and works in BB too....because, that app is built for android, and a legitimate android apps. plus, they run on BB using some android services right?

worst comes to worst, i'm getting priv or redmi note 3.

Please do homework at the crack berry forum before you jump. It was mentioned some time ago, that whenever your WA connects to the WA secure server, no matter you installed native BBOS WA apps or thru side loading of Android APK, WA server will recognize your connection from your BBOS handset... and thats the issue we have to live with.
Can receive medias sent from Android users, but not able to send medias to anybody...
Anyway it's best you try yourself. I tried many ways, compared to original android WA, I rather not use BB WA. But if u can live without certain functions, no harm using BB WA.
*
i see, seems legit. I only read about backup and transfer WA data in crackberry. didn't thought it would go that way. if only there's a way to flash android in Q20. unfortunately, BB not open for that for security reason.

I bought Bb q20 for my 2nd phone but sold the day after because the Bb ecosystem is so so so far behind from android or iOS. With limited sharing method, I think that s why Bb is going to dead. cry.gif
