Introducing HBM, a new type of memory chip with low power consumption, ultra-wide communication lanes and a revolutionary new stacked configuration. HBM’s vertical stacking and fast information transfer open the door for truly exciting performance in innovative form factors. And GPU applications are just the start – look for HBM’s superior power efficiency and space savings to spark industry-wide innovation.

25 times more energy efficiency by 2020
Our goal is to deliver at least 25 times more energy efficiency by the year 2020 with our Accelerated Processing Unit (APU), working with our customers to reduce the power consumption and environmental footprint of technology while relentlessly improving performance.

The AMD Radeon R9 Nano is definitely an impressive achievement and we love that AMD is at least trying to create something different. The scale is tiny and the performance great, but the price seems utterly prohibitive seeing as it's not really delivering something you can't get elsewhere, unless you're specifically talking in actual dimensions.

AMD Reveals New AMD Pro Lineup: Carrizo, ARM TrustZone Onboard

user posted image

AMD's commercial product catalog just got a whole lot more powerful with the latest 6th generation AMD Pro Carrizo-based mobile processors. AMD said it improved raw performance from previous generations by 31 percent for graphics and 18 percent for multi-threaded performance, as well as a 19 percent boost in compute performance. In addition, AMD claimed it improved performance per watt in its latest generation APUs by 66 percent for graphics and 50 percent for multi-threaded tasks and compute performance.

These performance and efficiency gains aren't the only noticeable differences in the new AMD Pro lineup. These chips were purpose-built with security in mind and contain the all-new AMD Secure Processor, a dedicated coprocessor that leverages the open-standard ARM Trustzone, which provides a safe execution environment that is completely segregated from the rest of the silicon, with its own memory, buses, TEE and TPM. AMD plans to implement ARM TrustZone coprocessors in all future AMD Pro products.

AMD has gotten off to a good start with the Radeon R9 Nano, but it’s still a little too early for the company to be celebrating. The HBM memory format is still in its infancy stage of the distribution and development cycle, and with AMD’s overclocking restrictions to it, the card – along with the Fury X and Fury – will not appeal to many, even with a price that’s below the RM3,000 mark. That being said, it does offer some amazing performance, as proven from our real-world tests.

Finally, with the launch of the R9 Fury X behind us, it’s time to turn our gaze towards the future, the very near future. The R9 Fury X’s younger sibling, the R9 Fury, launches in 2 weeks. Though certainly slower by virtue of its cut-down Fiji GPU, it is also $100 cheaper, and is a more traditional air-cooled card design as well. With NVIDIA still selling the 4GB GTX 980 for $500, the playing field is going to be much different below the R9 Fury X, so I am curious to see just how things shape up on the 14th.
