The latest Lumia 830 and Lumia 735 are officially launched in Malaysia today. Announced during IFA 2014, the Lumia 830 is their affordable flagship that’s priced at RM1399. Meanwhile its Lumia 735 is their answer for the current selfie trend and it is priced at RM999. As an early bird promo, they are giving out Microsoft Office 365 Home Premium for the first 500 Lumia 830 buyers.

Trying the demo unit, it actually feels like a proper flagship. Good camera, great screen, and snappy performance. Can't even see any difference with the 930 demo unit. Only encountered the resuming page once, when getting back into the camera app through the multitasking page.
I'm highly tempted to get one. Highly, highly tempted now |

Tested it as well a few times at the Nokia Store, love it. I like the fact that it's thinner than the 930, but still feels comfortable to hold. The screen also is just awesome I'm highly tempted to get one. Highly, highly tempted now Very tempted to change my 820 for this as well |

I like the 830, but at RM1,399 it's still a bundle to me. Looks like this phone is not selling like hot cakes, with only one owner reported here? I don't see much interest at the shops either. |

if u have a 920 or 925,
this device is a slight upgrade compare to them.. 2 extra cores and 2 extra megapixels.. with the nearly the same price ( compared to L925 back then) |

The device is lighter and thinner compared to the 820 which I had for over a year. Battery can last through more than 15 hours, enough for moderate use during a day. It has a motion sensor which eliminates the need for fitbit and the likes if you are a fitness person.
The screen is very nice. It is a 720p and can fit 3 medium tiles or 1 big tiles and 1 medium tiles. It is using an IPS technology. I am not a camera person but the PureView camera takes decent pictures. I use the camera mainly to take pictures of newspaper cutting and it does the job well (I have an app can handyscan). The inclusion of a camera key is nice which you rarely find in many smartphones nowadays. QUOTE(noorimanyosh @ Oct 12 2014, 01:07 PM) |

QUOTE(noorimanyosh @ Oct 12 2014, 01:07 PM) the phone does feel elegant when u hold it...comparing it with my xperiaZ... my vote goes to 830.. camera performs much better in darker area even w/out flash (vs xperia Z)... not sure bout latest Z3 though... but for me, im really satisfied with what 830 has to offer.. good camera quality OS is fluid phone doesnt get hot fast like android (not sure if this is due to WP or hardware) screen is sharp altho not fullHD.. it just feels like a flagship device, minus the big hole in my wallet.... if u decide to get this phone, just check the edges of the screen.. some unit might not have the perfect fit (flushed with the metal frame) all round.. if u can find 100% perfect, consider urself lucky... cos last friday, i examine 3 unit, all not perfect alas, i chose the one with minimum flaw.... |

i finally figured out how the navi buttons light works...
it will only lit up in dark surroundings.... if under direct light - it will not lit up...unless the proximity sensor is covered to mimic dark room.... makes sense now...can help extend battery life.... |

(or maybe i was just being too picky) but overall quality is very close to perfect.. in my case, out of 3, only 1 phone had an obvious flaw.. the other 2, was acceptable, altho I cant say its 100% perfect.. different people have diff expectation.. some may say the imperfection is acceptable, some may not... u need to check it out urself... |

Heard you could do manual focus during video record. Can someone confirm this? It is a nice feature for film-making!

the big downer on the 930 is the lack of microSD slot.. else it would have been perfect.

Just got myself a L830 to replace my L1020.
So far am satisfied with the battery life, able to last for 15 hours of normal usage. Camera is decent in most conditions, but does not perform well in situations where they are many lights (example Christmas tree lights in a busy street). Camera launch speed is faster than L1020 so as the shot-to-shot duration. The microSD slot makes up for the 16gb onboard storage, no complain. Not a heavy gamer, so far no noticeable lag while launching apps. The phone looks and feel premium, I have friends who commented how good it is to hold and the green colour is an attention seeker. I'm fine with LCD screen, though it seems a bit washed-out compared to OLED it does not suffer from screen burn-in. |

why not many people use 830?
it looks soo handsome.. the spec is ok well balance.. snapdragon 400 is sufficient on Windows Phone..people need to understand that the WP is not a resource hungry platform.. i'm still using Lumia 800 with single core still feel snappy.. 720p resolution also ok on 5"..camera with OIS and wireless charging built-in summore.. most penting one.. can put MicroSD.. 64gb RM100+ can get already argghhh. i really need this 830. Hmm next week can withdraw sikit from ASB la |

the expandable memory is indeed a key attraction for the 830, and which hobbles the 930 in lieu of Denim upgrade. What's the point of having a 20 mbps cam that can shoot in DNG and 4K vid but limited space to hold those pics/vid.
The 1520 seems to be the one that has it all. |

Anyone here bought tempered glass screen protector for L830?
Already bought 2 type. 1 from Ebay and 1 from lelong (nilkin). Both not stick well at edge area. I mean very bad condition. Screen protector lift up about 0.5cm++ around screen protector. Different from my L1520. Only have about 2~3mm not stick and the size almost same around the screen protector. |

Been using this phone for a while, like few days... I'm going to say this phone is not that bad when compared to L930. Here's my first impression.
What I really like about this phone is, it is much easier to hold it in my hand compared to L930. I have some trouble trying to reach the opposite side of screen (reaching right with thumb when holding with left hand) with my L930, I don't have much problem with L830. Understandably, the screen size is the same with L930 so I'm betting the thickness is playing the role here. Despite the lower resolution, I think I like the screen more except that the color is a little washed out. I guess that's the advantage of AMOLED on L930. The black on L930 is blacker as well. But the one on L830 looks smoother and feels snappier. I also noticed that L830 has better music reproduction as well, but I might be wrong here and I probably need to verify this but if you like music, I think you will like L830. SDCard memory expansion is welcomed for most people, but I don't really care much as I tend to keep most of my stuff on cloud anyway and my full libraries of MP3s are still around 2GB. I can't even fill 32GB space of L930. However, I do have problems with this phone. Mainly, playing music over bluetooth. Somehow I think Windows Phone isn't really capable of handling this properly when the music is on SDCard. I keep on getting skipped audio whenever I play MP3s from SDCard. I do faced this issue before when I try L525 but L525 handles MP3s over bluetooth a lot better compared to this L830. It could be due to my old Class4 SDCard, but unless SDCard and Bluetooth is tied to the same IO I don't think any phone should have problems handling MP3s over bluetooth with such card. As this is a feature that I use daily when driving to work, this is really a turn off for me. Luckily I have Spotify in such ocassion. I also am facing frequent crashes with my frequently used apps. I don't know why. It could be some updates for these apps are needed for Denim, or it could be the fact that I'm using a device with 1GB RAM like it has 2GB. Not exactly a game breaker for me as I've faced worse on Windows Phone previously but annoying nonetheless. Your mileage might vary though. Gaming performance, I didn't really thoroughly test at this point but I'd say playable based on the most unoptimized, incomplete game I've seen Windows Phone Store; Angry Birds Epic. Framerate isn't as high as L930, noticeable with my eyes but it didn't really bother the gameplay. So, I would say you shouldn't expect any bad gaming performance on L830. And, I dont know what sorcery did Microsoft apply on this L830 exactly but the battery life is phenomenal. It's actually much better compared to my L930. My L930 previously will always drain the battery around 4% - 5% per hour but this L830 hits impressively lowest 2% - 3% per hour. It could be that at that time not many background process is running yet but after 12hours, the phone consumed less than 50%. Even with my lack of usage I'd say that is impressive. Maybe next few days we will see the true colors of the battery life, but it is worth noting that my heaviest use was 11% - 12% per hour drain while on my L930 I can hit 15% per hour easily. Microsoft must've applied some sort of black magic here. As for temperature, I'm very satisfied with this phone. I don't feel the warm I usually feel when I use L930 for browsing. It's a pleasant phone to use if temperature is your concern. In fact, this phone is the most comfortable phone I've ever used in terms of temperature so far. Unfortunately, this phone is using Snapdragon 400 so it doesn't have "Hey, Cortana!". |

Just bought one yesterday, to replace my broken L720..
Anybody knows where I can get a good screen protector & silicone/gel grip (if any)? Only managed to get L820 screen protector on at the moment. Phone looked like it outgrew the screen protector size. Demmit. |

I bought my screen protector at a Nokia shop Mines. Actually they said it is the same one as for Lumia 930 (both are 5 inch Lumia).
I don't use any case for my 830. I have not found anything that suit my taste. And it looks better without case. But eventually I think it will have to use one, just to be safe in case I drop the phone. QUOTE(pokchik @ Jan 15 2015, 09:42 AM) |

The battery lasts long before 830 uses ips screen. 930 uses amoled that consumes more power when you browse web page and anything that uses white color.
Try use class 10 memory card. QUOTE(mrl @ Jan 12 2015, 02:02 AM) Been using this phone for a while, like few days... I'm going to say this phone is not that bad when compared to L930. Nice note on IPS screen. But rather than the type of screen, I think the real reason why 830 battery lifetime is longer than my 930 is simply because of the type of CPU and what's running in background. The one I mentioned 2%-3% doesn't have much stuff running as it is still very new at the time of measurement. After a while, my 830 and 930 is discharging similarly. Not much of a different.Try use class 10 memory card. As per Class10 memory card, I think I'm moving my musics to phone memory and see if the problem persists first. Even if the problem goes away, I think it's Windows Phone platform is having trouble with lower class SDCard then. This memory card has been used for musics since Nokia 5800 MusicExpress and went to my Galaxy Note (the first one) and has no problem playing musics on both device before. I dont think Class4 is capable of bottlenecking the bandwidth by just simply playing MP3. Plus, I do sometimes get similar issue with Spotify playback as well but not all the time. So, it could just be the cpu is overwhelmed with background processes that I have whenever it is at lowest power state. |

one thing that i observed on microsoft camera apps
last time microsoft camera apps on lumia 920 come with spot focus *which means if u touch some place ..it will adjust setting based on that point but i can't get this feature in lumia 830 microsoft camera apps (830 always use wide focus) for example Lumia 920 (Microsoft Apps + all auto(include iso) + spot focus(touch on bright)) ![]() WP_20150129_010 by Fantasy1989@Lowyat.net, on Flickr Lumia 830 (Microsoft apps + all auto(include iso) + wide focus) ![]() WP_20150129_008 by Fantasy1989@Lowyat.net, on Flickr did i missed some setting? i didnt recall that L920 need to change setting in order to do spot focus both works fine on Lumia camera apps |

anyone recently bricked their rear/main camera module?
because i remember recently i received 1 update from microsoft after update ...out of sudden my camera module cannot be connected whichever i enter microsoft camera apps or lumia camera apps ..it will prompt error or unable to initialize it happened on windows phone 8.1 ..i tried to upgrade to windows phone 10 ..also not working roll back and upgrade for few times seems like it doesnt solve my initial conclusion for this is either update bricked camera module firmware OR connector from camera module to board is loosen no problem when i try to initialize lumia selfie (front facing camera) i and my friend also having this issue |

so guys,
the 830 is solid? like the 930 keep having lifted screen and mic issues, do the 830 have any inherent problems especially hardware? This post has been edited by ainuddin: Jan 15 2016, 04:40 PM |

Oic, if u have 1k budget then definitely go get the 830, 930 ad stop selling and no stock, the only downside of 830 is the front camera not so good, if u insist want good selfie camera then get either 640 or 640XL or maybe 735 also, otherwise 830 is better in every aspect especially 10MP Pureview camera |

Hi, i am using L830 everyday.
For normal usage e.g. calls and sms is ok. Surfing lags a little but videos are ok using the VLC player. Used to be good for office use as well, reading Outlook emails, Excel and Word documents but lately after latest update, it's not so user friendly anymore. My opinion. |
