Are you upgrading your Astro for your office/hotels?
I think it is better that you call Astro customer service and enquire about it.

When I test out Astro's OD feature and simply select any series to watch, look what I found:

It's Fox Movies Play content on Astro's OD feature...
Oddly, this beginning season of The Walking Dead series is under Fox HD category instead of Fox Movies Premium on OD.

Is anyone here subscribed to Movies Pack and saw Fox Movies Play logo when watching/download any of latest movies from Fox Movies Premium's OD Free category?

astro new strategies .... new packs launching next month, Horror Pack, Sports-Lite pack etc. See below for details. Cheers.

Not sure if this link has been shared previously ....

Yes. I think I can relate with my situation here...

On July, Astro's feedback department called me to conduct a survey from me and asked me these questions:

1) Do you (and your family) like to watch horror/thriller shows or movies? Well, I say no.

2) And do you like to watch foreign language shows like from Thailand, Philippines or Korean? I say, perhaps Korean programmes.

3) Because Sports pack is expensive, what if we introduce another version of Sports pack, where it consists of 3 sports channels that mix with a variety of sports genres/content such as football, badminton, F1 racing, etc. And that package costs around RM21, do you think it's worth it? Then I ask, is the 3 channels are in HD? He said no, all are SD. I tell them without hesitation, not worth it! Then he says, how about if the package is RM13, is it worth it? Still, I said no, if the package has HD, then maybe I'll consider.

In this conversation, because it is from the feedback department, their talking tone is so much customer-friendly, caring and willing-to-listen type compared to calling Astro customer service hotline on 03-9543 3838 or even asking any enquiries by email Astro or Astro fb page, which is so much worse.

HD on asstro is already RM20, imagine UHD fee! They are so calculative that they cannot roll out HD for Free, when their HD PQ  is far from the best! yawn.gif
*
It's not RM20 anymore. It's either RM18.02 (Family HD) or RM26.50 (now bundled with PVR service).
As of now, Astro only provide 5 HD channels to all B.yond customers, which are Go Shop Malay, Astro Maya HD, Astro Xi Yue HD, Go Shop Chinese, Go Asean.

Based on how "calculative" of Astro are, they won't provide HD for free because they know HD is an attractive offer for customers, and they are trying to gain profit from customers paying for HD.

Guys. Need ur help.

I will be downgrading my Superpack 1 package this coming week. What is the best way to do this? Thru phone, thru ch200 or by their website?

I want to get it downgraded without any begging from them and i want it to be done immediately. I think i want to do it thu their website. Is it ok? What is the experience of those who have done it before?
*
Ch200 is not possible to downgrade packages. Astro won't make customers so easy to cancel packages one...
Best way is either do it online via Astro Self Service here http://www.astro.com.my/SelfService/ or call their customer service.

But you need to know that just because you want to cancel, they won't cancel for you on the spot that day you tell them to cancel.
They will cancel it for you according on your bill date.

Example if your billing date starts at 16/9/2016-17/10/2016.
Today is already 21 Sept, so you can only get your Super Pack removed from your subscription after your bill date over, which is 17/10/2016.
They will schedule a package removal for you once the bill date is over.

Meanwhile.....
http://www.vccircle.com/news/media-enterta...rishnan-resigns

5 Oct - Ananda Krishnan is reported to have resigned from Astro All Asia Networks, and according to anonymous sources, Krishnan’s right hand man, has resigned from all the posts he held across firms under Astro.
From 9 October, 12:30 pm until 10 October 8:00 am - Astro will be upgrading its system.
10 Oct - "Something BIG and EXCITING is coming under your way" - Astro

Hmmm.... looks like there's some "internal affairs" already happening to Ananda and Astro, so now Astro is going to give some "surprise" to customer?
Well, we will see on 10 October 2016.

Oh I see, because I usually switch off the main plug.
But sometimes for example: I on the main plug of my astro byond HD pvr & it boot & start, some HD channels are not working (lag, lag audio, no picture).
This only happens to some HD channels, NOT each HD channels, all SD channels are showing good. The weather outside is clear sky by the way.
Then after I enter settings, STB diagnostic, Tuner & press reboot, then after reboot, all HD channels are showing good again.
But this happens at times only.
If I put standby from working HD channels, when I resume back, all HD channels working good.
Is it because if we switch off main plug of the astro byond HD pvr decoder, next time on back it need time to search & locked again the signal?
Or anyone experience this before?
*
Try go to STB Diagnostics, then go to Tuner section, press Green Button to initiate Transponder Scan.
Take pictures showing the full list of transponder frequencies appeared on your TV screen after the scan is 100% complete.

As what I observe according to your transponder scan results, you are receiving below average satellite signal strength from Measat 3a satellite (number 13 until 18, frequency 12xxx MHz) as well as other satellites. By right, you should receive all transponder frequencies with the signal strength of above 80%. Anything below than that, either you will easily lose signal when it rains compared if your signal is 80% and above, or pixelation or sudden black screen will occur.

In this case, satellite dish alignment will be the solution, if you can reach to your satellite dish easily (DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK). Otherwise, tell Astro to arrange a technician to your premise to solve the issue for you. The Technical Service Fees will be as below:

If your Astro subscription is RM100 or below per month, Technical Service Fee of RM53 will be imposed for the Astro technical team to visit your premises each time.
If your Astro subscription is RM100 and above per month, Astro call this as "premium customer", therefore NO Technical Service Fee, meaning that they can settle your technical related problems for you, free of charge.

Hi sifus, I have a few questions:

1. I recently upgrade to byond service. I notice on the bill it stated as hd-pvr service. How do i access the pvr? I think my decoder do not support it. It is the small type one.

2. i plan to change the plan soon. However is it possible to downgrade the plan if i am not happy? will there be any contract or penalty?

3. can existing customer take fan pack? does fan pack include HD? it is very confusing on the website.

Thank you
*
1. Since you said you upgraded to B.yond STB (set-top-box) recently, then I assume your STB is the latest HD receiver model, which there are no clock/channel number display on the STB front panel. Just the green light indicator indicates as powered on.

Regardless of new or existing customer who like to enjoy PVR function but currently still using HD STB and subscribed to HD service (not Family HD), then you are eligible to enjoy PVR service without additional charge, and all you'll need to do is upgrade your Astro STB to PVR.

From August 2016 onwards, PVR service is included in HD service (worth RM26.50/month) without additional charge unlike before, which is RM10.60/month for PVR service alone.

2. PVR STB will have 24 months contract upon activation. You can downgrade any packages you like, but penalty charges will be imposed if terminate Astro service within contract period.

3. Every Value Packs now (including Fans Pack that you mentioned) included both HD and PVR Service.

1. Contests only benefit selected number of winners, not all customers (those who don't bother about the contest or join the contests but lost)
2. No sane person will enjoy watching 20 (some of them are old ones) concerts that will be repeated on daily basis from 10.10.2016 until 31.12.2016.
3. The "SOMETHING BIG AND EXCITING" is misleading.

I think can file a complaint to CFM or MCMC dy for misleading info, because it's not big and exciting at all.

Their exclusive satellite TV license will expire Feb 2017. I hope the government will liberalize the satellite TV licenses after that. Mega TV, MiTV and ABN failed because cable TV won't work in Malaysia. For Hypp TV, it is not feasible to cover the whole Malaysia, especially rural areas.
*
Hypp TV can be made available only if your area can support minimum 4Mbps TM Streamyx speed and above. But problem is TM don't put much effort enough to made 4Mbps Streamyx available (not to mention 8Mbps) to many rural areas, however some rural areas supports Streamayx 4Mbps though. Believe it or not, some rural areas only can subscribe up to 1Mbps only! But even if you take 4Mbps, you must subscribe at least any of the packs offered by Hypp TV in order to get the service, plus 17 free channels. If take 8Mbps, they will provide you Hypp TV STB with 17 free channels, even if you don't ask for it.

Another thing is, Hypp TM's channels is different than Astro's. But eventually it is still depend on individual preference between the two because both pay TV providers provides different channels/content.

Astro can't sell their Chinese chs to Starhub or SingTel as the programs on those AEC chs are already being bought by the 2 providers separately. However, astro managed to sell their in-house produced programs fr Hua Hee, XTY  etc. to ST and SH though....  This is one of them, Hua Hee Seko-lah

Ah yes, it's the Jia Le Channel 佳乐台, right? I'm quite surprised that they even took Malaysian made (Astro made, to be precise) Hokkien programmes too...

How about Celestial Movies, its also owned by asstro right?
*
Celestial Movies is owned by Celestial Tiger Entertainment. Kix and Thrill are also owned by this company.

Celestial Movies you watch on Astro is Malaysian Astro feed, and you can change between Mandarin or Cantonese audio languages. Singtel TV is different feed than Malaysia's, and if I'm not mistaken, you cannot change multiple audio languages and Mandarin audio language will be the priority.

Also, Celestial Movies HD also available too. It shows different movies (meaning that it is not simulcast compared to SD feed) and Celestial Movies HD is only available in Malaysia, and nowhere else.

I don't get what you mean.

Astro Ria and Prima is a Malay channel, why "buy some Astro Chinese. Programs etc."?

Hahaha..i just realised i pissed off astro. At the end of July, i applied to redeem the astro points in the form of RM35 worth of bill rebates. This past month, i drop my packages that made my bill  from rm218 to rm 162..so supposed to pay rm172 this month becoz got that rm10 penalty for dropping package.

Suddenly wanted to pay bill today, check the bill, walllaaa that rm35 rebate i mentioned earlier, takes effect in this bill! So not only have i drop my packages, i also get rebate this month! They couldnt even squeeze that extra rm10 out of me this month!

If not becoz of my lil kid n wife, astro wouldnt get a single sen of me anymore but what to do. For family, still have to use la.

N for those saying tm have a chance to takeover astro, not in a million years. My parents are living in Skudai, outskirts of jb, old taman but very populated, neighbouring UTM too but best TM can give them is 2mbps streamyx. If it had unifi, or even 8mb streamyx, they surely potong their astrojak too n i'd get them something better. TM and astrojak are just sleeping buddies.
*
Since you stay at Skudai near JB, you should be able to receive Singapore national TV channels, isn't? Perhaps it's time for you to watch more Singaporean channels for free? Lel...

U from johor bro? Im going back to johor on friday and might probably try and fix and set up my parents tv to get those singapore channels again.

Thinking of going to the local hardware/electrical shop there to maybet get a new antenna tulang ikan to set it up. It must have DVB-T antenna capabilities rite?
*
Nope I'm not from Johor, but I've been there before.
When you go to local hardware/electrical shop, make sure you buy an outdoor UHF antenna instead of VHF antenna. It is better that you choose the ones that has a lot of antenna elements, such as 14 elements and above. Usually the more the elements, the antenna will be longer and bigger (and yes, more expensive), hence the better the signal. Well, just to make sure that in case if higher ground block most of the signal, even you stay near to Johor Bahru.

You might see some antennas that seems to be 2-in-1 with VHF and UHF functions. Basically there's no need for you to buy VHF antenna anymore these days because digital TV in Malaysia, Singapore and even many other countries around world requires only UHF antenna for digital TV, unlike analogue TV where it is better that you have both VHF and UHF antennas installed. Just buy a UHF antenna will do.

And please ignore the antenna's packaging as there are no such thing "Digital TV antenna" "Support DVB-T2" "Crystal clear quality antenna" "HD antenna" or whatsoever.
Outdoor antenna is where the "metal sticks" job is to receive TV signal only, that's all. The antenna doesn't matter whether you are receiving analogue TV, digital TV with SD or HD or whatsoever... It is just marketing. In fact, you can use back your existing outdoor antenna to receive digital TV signals, if your antenna is still in good condition and not rusty or there is missing elements on the antenna. Or you can choose to buy a new one and a bigger one perhaps, as an upgrade from your existing antenna if it's still working fine.

And, is your TV has a built-in DVB-T2 tuner? If yes, good.
If no, a digital TV set-top-box is needed.

And for your info, Malaysia and Singapore will be using only DVB-T2 for digital TV broadcasting, not the older technology DVB-T anymore.

Feel free to ask me anything you want to know. Or you can Google the answers lol.

Thanks for ur detailed explanation bro.

So from what i understand, since my parents TV is a smart tv so it comes with the DVB-T tuner, i should go look for an antenna that has UHF capbilities. But just 1 curious question, would an indoor antenna be not sufficient? I have fren living in jb too who gets the channels using an indoor antenna though he is living in a high rise condo much nearer to Singapore.

I was just googling and there were tutorials using indoor antennas though i understand my case might be different. I understand ur explanation that an outdoor antenna with 14 elements or more would be better.
*
If you're very sure that your smart TV comes with built-in DVB-T tuner instead of DVB-T2 tuner, then I have a bad news for you. You will not able to receive Malaysian digital TV channels, and might able to receive Singapore's Channel 5 and 8 only, or maybe can't receive any channels at all. (Channel U, Suria, Vasantham and Channel NewsAsia all cannot unless it is DVB-T2 tuner). Even if you can receive it, this is just temporary as Singapore will eventually shut down DVB-T and migrate to the latest DVB-T2. Do note that DVB-T tuners are not compatible with digital TV channels that is using the latest DVB-T2 standard. In this case, you got 2 options which is buy a Digital TV STB (set-top-box) with DVB-T2 tuner, connect your antenna cable to the STB and then watch the channels using the STB and make sure your TV input source is change to HDMI. Otherwise, buy a brand new TV and make sure it has built-in DVB-T2.

If you're staying at high floors buildings like apartment or condo, then indoor antenna may be adequate to receive digital TV signals like your friend does. But you said that you live at outskirt JB, so I am not sure whether is the signal strong enough to receive or not... You can give it a try though. If no signal, use an outdoor antenna then. But most importantly, you need to make sure you can receive DVB-T2 signals first. I believe there might have some stores in Johor will sell digital TV STB because many Johorians wants to watch Singapore's digital TV channels. Otherwise, you can buy it online.

FYI, Malaysia's digital TV is still under test transmission and will be officially launching on Nov/Dec 2016.

Try a fishbone antenna with booster ,maybe a longer pole you maybe lucky! But remember to keep the ****ed up asstro dish much further from the aerial,it interupts with UHF signals if an aerial is nearby. If yr nearby neighbours recieve signals then you shld also hmm.gif
*
Don't worry, putting Astro satellite dish and UHF antenna together won't have interference as the signal frequency is different.

In genereal:
UHF antenna for terrestrial TV = 470-869MHz
Satellite TV used by Astro = 10.7GHz (10700MHz) and above
