Guys, i want to check with you. I'm moving from one place to another. I know that astro relocation is now free of charge. I'm now out of 2 years contract with astro. My question is, if I do relocation, will astro renew the contract for another few year/s? Or I will be free of contract and can terminate anytime thereafter?

Hi Guys

So I'm a lil noobish in the ASTRO side; since i've been living in an Apartment for 5 years now with NO ASTRO (OR Fibre or Even streamyx; just P1). But all that's history now and I need some sifu's to share your wisdom.

Sorry Yah; its abit long winded story but there should be enough details for the sifu's to work with here.


1) I just bought a house (YAY!). So after all the hoohah and whatnot's; the house is ALL wired up for ASTRO and MYTV (http://www.MyTVBroadcasting.my). So here's the thing; AFTER the previous house owner left and gave me the keys; there's an ASTRO SAMSUNG B.YOND PVR (with built in HDD) leftover sitting around. (I swear the machine had a card inside when i did the walk-around with the agent; but after the agent left; the card's gone. DAMN). So anyways; based on what the local ASTRO and tv guys were telling me; the machine is useless without a registered card with it and they dont want it since its worthless. So the question is; any sifu's got any suggestions? I was thinking;

i) Hack the ASTRO FIRMWARE to duplicate my NEW/CURRENT ASTRO PACE machine firmware so i have 2x machines with 1x card to move around the house
ii) Flash the firmware to STOCK SAMSUNG and maybe see what i can get (hint hint)
iii) Flash the firmware to some sort of linux media player (think XBMC/KODI or ANDROID)
iv) break the HDD out for PC use and use the PVR as a frisbee
v) some other idea i havent though of listed above.. suggestions welcome



2) Since the house reno is done (except for some security door issue); i got ASTRO to come over and do the NEW installation. Everything tested A-ok. Its the new setup; ASTRO PACE machine with HD and PVR. So basically because of the lack of security in the house; i took the ASTRO back to the apartment with me. Yes i'm aware
i) The current gen of PACE PVR and contract requires 2x hard lines DIRECT from the ASTRO dish to the PVR.
ii) The DISH should be pointed to the MEASAT HD satellite to get the HD channels (the house is; the apartment i'm not sure)

Now according to the contractor; he informed me that
i) YES i can/should use a special F-connector splitter for satellite/cable use ONLY. NOT the same splitters for V/UHF tv aerials. (Contractor provided me the splitter and we tested it in the house BEFORE i brought the whole setup back)
ii) I cannot synchronously Record+Watch 2 different HD/SD channels/streams at the same time with the splitter (To clarify; He meant that i can only watch+record 2 separate HD+HD or SD+SD channels. I cannot record+watch HD+SD or SD+HD. You follow me on this so far?). This applies to the HOME and the APARTMENT

So the question now is
i) Since i know the splitter works at the house ;
YES - ASTRO is working but the signal varies between STRENGTH 65-70% and QUALITY 100% for TUNER 1 & 2
YES - I AM getting SOME of the HD channels
Is it possible for me to get 100% of the HD Channels? I get a case where some i can watch ; some i'm getting SCNA (ONLY for the HD channels). Issit the Splitter or the Apartment DISH problem?

ii) About the record+watch of 2 separate HD/SD streams with splitter; anybody can clarify this problem?

iii) is there anyway i can hack the ASTRO PACE machine to use P1 in HYBRID mode (IPTV + DISH)

Just an update on the new football season and which leagues are shown and which are now missing.

As it stands, the French Ligue 1 is now missing for its second week from the normal channel Supersport 2 (ch811). Looks like it has been pulled from Astro.

One LYN member has posted on my regular live matches thread that the Italian Serie A will also not be shown on Astro this season, though I cannot confirm this yet as the season only starts next week. Will update it here.

For all of your information, the German Bundesliga is now on Fox Sports(Ch812) and Fox Sports 2 (Ch813) as well as Fox Sports HD (CH832).

The Dutch Eridivise, which was previously on Fox Sport and Fox Sports 2, is now on Fox Sports 3 (Ch818).

Spanish La Liga remains on Fox Sports and Fox Sports 2 and starts next weekend.

And for those who follow the Barclays Premier League, the usual main Sunday match at 11.00pm (4pm kickoff in the UK), will now be on Astro Supersport 3, meaning those who are using HyppTV will not get to see these matches anymore as you only have Astro Supersport and Supersport 2 but not Supersport 3. As it stands, those who use HyppTV, will not get any matches on Sunday as the first match on Sunday is on Fox Sports and the second will be on Supersport 3. Only on certain Sundays when there are more than these two matches, will Astro show matches on either Supersport or Supersport 2.

ASTRO prioritizes BPL over other contents. I made the right decision to remove the sport package. More savings post-GST and depreciating ringgit.

hmmm i guess it's the right time for me to downgrade my astro package and look for alternatives. i watched more of serie a than epl. and how can they prefer for eridivisie over ligue 1?
