Hello sifus biggrin.gif

Budget : Preferably below RM500, dont plan to splurge too much unless necessary, but then, I dont want to be regretting a purchase so hit me with your suggestions(can accomodate up to 700ish tho)

Use : Mainly for gaming (so a mic IF possible, but I listen to a lot of music which are "diverse" in nature so an all rounder would be nice, though I like clarity more than bass) Gonna use it for my PS3 too.

File format : FLAC mostly, mp3

Genre of music : Mix of mainly J-pop, J-rock and tons of game OST's (heavy on Ar Tonelico/Ar Nosurge so folk-rock? lets just say it is a complex mix)

Headphone type : I'm currently not decided, Currently using the Open AD300 but it feels a bit loose for me and not that comfortable

Available audio equipments : PC with Govibe USB mini DAC / PS3 / Redmi 1s

Thanks a lot for your time biggrin.gif

File Source: Mostly flac. otherwise mp3

Genre of Music: Rock, Classical, J-POP.

Headphone/IEM: Anything that can be considered an upgrade from Grado SR60e

QUOTE(JamesKW @ Mar 4 2015, 04:50 PM)
I have a Heaven 6 with me, and I really like it when it comes to vocals! However, soon I realise my H6 is pretty suck at other songs (Especially Pop and Ochestra).

So now I am planning to get a end-game IEM that will end my audiophile journey for good, thus willing to spend more on the next IEM. I prefer sound signature that is a little bit warm. I emphasis a lot on details and clarity (not mere increase in dB), and bass has to be good. Vocal is a favourite of mine, and I like it when the vocal actually sounds 'emotional'

I will soon own a hm901 with IEM amp card and a Fenli card. So source wise, I am done.

About formal type, mainly flac, ape and wav.

I am currently considering the following:
-Noble K-10u (custom worth getting it or not?)
-Fitear To Go 334
-Fitear MH335dw (I might get this although it costs like RM7k)

I haven't tried K 10 up to now. Tried the To Go 334 once but forgotten the sound. I tried the 335dw recently at Jaben and I really like it. However, I notice that the vocal is not forward enough and in overall not punchy enough (putting aside the bass!). I strongly believe that was due to the noob source I used (Samsung s3).

Any suggestions?

Go with either the Fitear MH335DW or the Vision Ears VE6XC nod.gif

I have heard from others that Noble k 10 is a really good one, so I am surprised as you did not suggest the K-10, was it because it lacks the clarity that fitear earphones have?

Okay, I will definitely read up on Vision Ears VE6XC! Thanks for the suggestion.

By the way, what do you think of the mh335dw personally? I am going to demo it next Sat hopefully once I've gotten my HM901! =D

Good day, I used to own a pair of Beyerdynamic Custom One Pros. I've sold it and am looking for a replacement. My dream headphones would be the Fostex TH900 but unfortunately they aren't very portable nor are they able to survive in a varying environment.

Budget: Preferable up to RM2500. Do list even if it exceeds this amount.

Rig: Music player and laptop.

Usage: Movies & music

Genre of music: Rock (almost all types), Metal, Epic, Anime, Classical, etc.

Headphone: Closed back, full sized headphones

File format used in music source: 16bit & 24bit FLAC mostly (mp3 for very few scenarios)

Other requirements:
1) Able to walk around with headphones without the material suffering fatigue quickly. I like going for relaxing walks with my music player.

2) 2 separate cables that connect to each ear cup externally rather than a single cable that connects only to one ear cup. The single cable design tends to spoil easy in my scenario compared to the dual cable externally.

3) Easy to drive headphones.

4) Less tendency for ears to sweat. My ears sweat quite a bit with the Beyerdynamic COP.

5) I have a grudge against folding headphones, so if possible avoid those.

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

...
If you like Fostex TH900 but worry about the wooden cup and price, how about it's brother, the TH600?
The long fixed cable is a PITA though, but the sound signature is not so much different from the TH900.
Not sure what is the retail price in Malaysia, but sometimes it appear on Massdrop for US$5xx-6xx range.
If you don't want to wait, can try ordering online from PriceJapan.
That's where I bought my previous TH600 from.

Other full-sized headphones that I've in mind are the MrSpeaker Alpha Dog. Can check with David of E1 on the actual price.
Mind you, it's a bit hard to drive at it is using planar technology. Even the Oppo HA-1 desktop amp struggles to bring out the best of the AD
The sound signature is on the neutral size, and isolates very well.
But it's using lamp skin leather pad, so not sure how stuffy can it get.

My other suggestion is Sony MDR-Z7 but the sound signature is warm, with lots of bass and recessed high.
I own the Sony but I will not recommend to you if you are a treble head. The Sony is quite easy to drive though, as I can plug it straight to my AK100II player, but it sounds better on my Oppo HA-1.

I would also suggest you to listen to Oppo PM-2, although it is not a closed-back can but when I auditioned it, it doesn't leak out very bad, but you do lose out on isolation.

Budget = Less than MYR250
Your rig = PC only
What type of usage = Movies and Songs
File format used in your source = mp3

Other Requirements = headphones only.

I am wearing glasses so I prefer on ear headphones as I felt uncomfortable with full cups. I prefer something like AKG k450 size.

Thanks in advance!

I've heard the Sony MDR-Z7 and it just wasn't for me. Haven't heard the Oppo PM-2 or MrSpeaker Alpha Dog though. Are their sound characteristics like the Final Pandora full sized headphones? Because I'm not a fan of it. The AD do look very comfortable, though I wonder if it will be like the JVC DX-2000?

I'm now turning my gaze to the Beyerdynamic T5p although I don't like its original cables. Know of anywhere that offers modified cables for it, especially the pure silver cables with 1% gold? I suppose I need to test the TH600 and T5p. Hopefully Jaben should have them in stock.

Not sure in what setup configuration have you heard the MDR-Z7 in sweat.gif The MDR-Z7 really shines with the right setup nod.gif

Please be aware that not all cables with the same material use sounds the same shakehead.gif

Pure silver from brand A will sound different from pure silver from brand B nod.gif

I shall give the MDR-Z7 another go, though i'm not awfully fond of having to carry a portable amp for driving purposes. I shall just put it on my test list the next time I get to Jaben.

I agree about the cables, hence I was hoping you may have a few sources rather than one. Worse case scenario if I do get the T5p, I'll simply use the original cables.

T5p vs TH600 vs MDR-Z7, its gonna be one fun test. Wish I could test MrSpeakers Alpha Dog as well.

Lost the iphone earphone and bought xiaomi piston gold - very disappointing with the flat sound and weak bass. Looking for something better.
Saw soundmagic E10 & VSD1 but not sure where and which to get.

Jaben doesn't have the TH600 unfortunately so alas, that was a dead end. The T5p was horrendous as the sound just sort of leveled off in every aspect. Really disturbing to hear because lots of elements disappeared where one expects them to appear.

The Sony MDR-Z7 was of course better than the T5p, this really did surprise me. However it didn't satisfy my music genre because all the sound seemed to fall of the end of the curve and appear a little distant. Bass-wise its superb. In general, there were some aspects that were enjoyable and some that weren't which leads to a 50-50 decision for it. The ear cups were comfy and the detachable cables are superb. Looks alright in my eyes (I'm someone who would take function over form).

Oh and do note that I'm not using any external amp of sort. I'm strictly playing out of my music player (24 bit and 16 bit quality).

I'll still keep an eye on for more headphones. Though if all else fails then I'll simply have to settle with the Sony MDR-Z7.

Most pairs of top tier headphones will need an amp to provide enough current for them to perform well sweat.gif You may want to checkout the ATH-M70X nod.gif
