Just curious, I'm getting my braces removed in 3 months. Usually how do they create our retainers? Take mould of it first then do a retainer for us? How long does this process take?
*
It usually can be done in a day, depending the clinic have the machine to do it or not. If they dont have it, if they dont have it they need to send to laboratory to do.

I just got my braces tightened yesterday and in just 1 day it created a gap at my front teeth? Is it normal? I have 2 upper canine and she just bonded them and is that why? I'm using traditional braces, normal wire.
*
I dont know what is the treatment plan of your dentist, but the gap due to braces movement should be ok. If you have any doubt just consult your dentist thumbup.gif

Cage?? What do you mean by cage? Gum problem is hard to treat, but it is very possible, it takes time, thats all. All you need is regular cleaning

I got my tooth extracted yesterday due to orthodontic.

My gum and upper part of the mount gets really sore right after the dentist injected anethesia to the area.

After extracted, my tooth beside the extracted tooth is painful and lossen a lil bit. Is it normal?
*
Sorry for replying so late, been neglecting this thread. So how you feel now? the neighboring teeth might get loose a little bit, because the tooth beside has been extracted, so the support is lost. But once the bone grow back into the socket, your teeth will be ok

I got all 3 teeth extracted done and installed bracers 4 days ago. Yeah, the teeth pain went away over time. But now what really hurts me is the sharp edge that holds wire into place at my molar teeth. It constantly pokes me cheeck
*
For the sharp edges, maybe you should go back and ask the dentist to adjust it for you so you feel more comfortable.

Is it safe to use oradex antibacterial mouthwash?
I heard chlorhexidine has bad side effect  like staining the tooth and damage in tastes bud in long period of time. Or should I just use alchol based listerine?

But I really need to prevent gum disease, i heard oradex is the most effective way to kill them.
*
For oradex it is safe, just that it will cause staining due to Chlorhexidine ingredient. But the staining only visible if you use it quite often, i would suggest you to use oradex and others which are non-chlorhexidine. Oradex you can use maybe twice a month, then normal day use the other mouthrinse. Since you havig gum problem, it is bet to use with oradex.

how to clean my teeth and make it white ?? do u have suggestion product and proper technique?  icon_question.gif  icon_question.gif
my gusi get a small hole and i wanted to see my dentist..  doh.gif
*
To make it white, first is diet. Reduce consumption food like coffee and tea. Next is stop smoking if you are a smoker. Get regular scaling and polishing. Im not too sure about those whitening toothpaste in the product, but you can try it out. The last will bleaching, but the bleaching effect only temporary, last maybe up to a year then the color will return back to yellowish.

If you gusi have a small hole, we call it black triangle. It simply means you bone reduced in height and gum collapse. This is due to tartar/calcalus collection around your teeth for a long time, resulting in bacteria invading into your gum, causing you to have such problem.

*
The normal recommendation is 6 month once. But it depends on your condition, some people the calcalus build up is fast, so maybe they need to do it every 4 months. Just ask your dentist next time when you finish cleaning and polishing when is the next appointment

Hi, after a week with bracers on. I notice there is a few white patch/spots on my upper front teeth. Most noticably on my canine teeth. I'm not sure if they are already there before bracer treatment, but after bracers these white patches are quite noticable.

I keep my oral hygiene normally.

I am not sure if my mouthwash causes the stain?
Because behind the bottle it says the "active antibacterial subtance will cause stain on teeth and touge and may disable taste" I'm using oradex mouthwash.

Is this a serious problem or minor?
*
it night me from oradex, but usually oradex stain will be more generalised and more yellowish. If it is isolated whitish spot, maybe is the mild acid they use to bond the braket to your teeth, not a severe problem. You can consult your dentist in next appointment

Hi,

I am looking for any dental clinic that can help me to remove the braces and make a permanent retainer around Serdang/Putrajaya/Kajang.

Also, what the rough estimation for the cost ya?

Thanks!
*
I will advice you to remove your braces in the clinic you receive your treatment for braces. Not all clinic have the equipment to remove. And there is a possibility that your treatment is not yet complete, so i will strongly advice you to go back to the clinic where you go for braces.

As for retainer, the cost will be roughly Rm200/ pair...but it depends on clinic

Is it better to go KPJ or Dental ?

I feel like my teeth is shaking a bit, makes me worry.

Thinking of getting it on place.. please suggest sad.gif

getting a small gab in between teeth.
*
I dont have any good dental clinic to recommend, im not from Kl/selangor side.

If you teeth is shaking, most probably is due to your gum problem. You need to get your gum corrected first to prevent further worsening of your teeth condition.

buy and use the whitening toothpaste in the market i think, i never use before so i didnt know the result. Mostly the whitening product that dentist use are concentrated acid. Nowadays they have teeth whitening using laser, but i not too sure which clinic has those technology.

Underbite can be treated by orthodontic treatment. If it is very severe, than you have to do surgery + orthodontic

Whoa, you removed all 4 in 1 appointment ?? It is always advisable to go back to the same doctor, because they are the one who did the extraction, so they know you better. Somemore, if you go to new doctor, he will charge you for that.

Hi, 2 week with bracers on.
Everything is good especially the ulcer and my cheeks already get used to it. My lower front tooth is pain all of a sudden after 2 weeks mark which I assume it is normal and will go away soon.

But what worries me the most is my upper tooth beside extraction area (Behind molar tooth) is in pain whenever I put pressure on.
And I notice the white (bones? Tooth root?) is very visible on the gum on the particular tooth. I can feel the gum tissue is very thin. Is it normal?
*
Maybe during extraction, some amount of gum is tear off, is normal and it happens...anyway, just consult your doctor when you going for a review. The pain may eventually goes away

*
Yeah, i guess you have dry socket, is painful but not much we can do about it except to keep the area clean and wait the gum to grow. If you going for review, and when the dentist want to do any procedure on the dry socket, i advice you to numb the area, so the dentist can clean and put a good dressing on it.

How does tooth whitening work and how much does it cost?
I got see in tv they have some kind of strips that you stick to your teeth to make it whiter, what is that and can you get it in msia? I tried to look for it online but cannot find
I dont like my yellow teeth :( but I dont know how to make it whiter
I got see also they use baking soda and lemon juice or something but it removes your enamel and I dont want my babies to get damaged
What do?
*
Basically, to make your teeth whiter, we use high concentration of acid and nowadays they have laser. I not sure abut the strips, maybe you can try and let me know thumbup.gif

Dr
For single tooth,  what is the pro and cons between bridge and partial denture?

I have my upper left premolar removed, too deep the hole and filling very near nerve. My regular dentist and 2nd opinion recommended bridge cos I have my 1st molar and canine tooth to support. But both the tooth have filling.
Cost a bit expensive -RM1,800 to RM2k

Denture cheaper, if I get denture will be the Chrome or Valpast type not the cheapo Acrylic . Cost -RM500 to RM650 . Anybody has experience using the metal or Valpast dentures?  I dont know anyone who uses these, my mum and relatives all using the old acrylic type.
*
Denture:
Pros:
1) Cheaper
2) Easy to replace/fix
3) Easier to clean

Cons:
1) The metal plate will cover your palate , hence it will affect your speaking and eating
2) Have to take up and down, possibility of losing it
3) Might be loose
4) Color might not be the same as your neighboring teeth

Bridge:
Pros:
1) Uniform color
2) Its fix, unable to take it out, hence you can forget its existence

Cons:
1) More Expensive
2) If the bridge or the teeth got any problem, have to take out the whole bridge and remake
3) have to reduce size of neighboring teeth

How often should I use mouthwash?

It is safe to use it every night before brushing teeth and sleep?
I'm using the antibacterial one.

I heard it will weaken my teeth enamel? I red somewhere in the net though.

Is it advisable to rinse with water after using mouthwash?
Because I brush my teeth 10 mins after I rinse with it.

Oh, and I have one tiny (very tiny) hole or black spot (not sure) on one of my lower tooth. It's on the biting flat area (tooth beside canine). I assume that is cavity?
*
I would advice patient to do mouth rinsing twice a week or so, dont need to do mouthwash everyday. The black spot it may be stain or caries, but the caries it may be active or already stop progressive. So it need a dentist to check to confirm the black spot

AskTheDent Doc, I'm wearing braces now. I think I had an ulcer right on the gum behind my last tooth, I say I think bcs it's too far back to have a good look. It hurts when I chew food. Just now when I gargle my mouth with listerine when I spit it out full of blood came out I think the listerine make it burst??? Wta what should I apply on the wound now? I have this small bottle of oral aid, is it ok I apply it on the cut???
*
The ulcer will healed by itself, oral aid is just to make your numb for a while. It is pretty common to have ulcer while wearing braces

Hi AsktheDent,

I hv a question here. I have a very old dental filling based on mercury. I have heard about the risks posed by mercury. So should I see a dentist to remove the filling ?
*
Actually it is more harmful when remove, the air particle that is produced when drilling is more dangerous. But nowadays the Amalgam has very less mercury content

I have my braces on in the mean time I own an electric toothbrush. My question is, is it advisable to use electric toothbrush if I have braces?

I'm also curious why my doc didn't put the colourful beads on my teeth... I'm having just the metal one even though I already have had my braces for like 8-9 months.
*
It is ok to use any type of brush. But i will advice you too use super floss, a special kind of floss that is use to clean the braces
