the filling is within the tooth wall. But I think the filling was done when the cavity is pretty deep.
*
I will suggest you go back and look for the same dentist, maybe he/she need to replace the old filling with other type of cement

Is it possible that the pain is due to the thin tooth layer underneath the filling?
*
Yeah, maybe is so deep that when you bite it will transfer the force down. Hence, it need to place a layer of a cement, then on top of it, another type of cement

Does flossing really a need for your teeth health? lol

I cannot recall being exposed to flossing when i was in primary/secondary school.
Is it really necessary?
*
YES, it is very important but not much emphasize on it. It get more important as the older we get, as our gum shrinks, the food will get more easy to stuck in between the teeth

Oo.. ok. thanks for your advice

One more thing, does scaling really necessary? Wouldn't it thin the enamel layer?
*
Yes, scaling is necessary to everyone. It just depend on individual oral hygiene, some need 3, 6 or 12 months scaling. And it will not thin your enamel layer down.

If I didnt do it, how?
Never done scaling before.
*
Bad breath
Gum bleeding
Gum Swelling
Shaking teeth

All these symptom take years to form, but once your gum is in bad shape, it is difficult and costly ( only surgical ) to correct it. So as many times you heard before, preventive is better than the cure. You may not appreciate what the dentist done to you after scaling, you may even not feel a thing, but in long term, it helps

hello doc,

if we dont do teeth filling, will it cause a serious disease to our mouth?
*
Pain
Swelling
Pus
If serious ----> can turn into Cellulitis ( Google it up to understand better )

If beyond repair, extraction of teeth is usually follow which will lead to
Unable to eat
Mal-nultrition ( Im talking about missing of a lot of teeth )

Treatment available after extraction
Denture
Crown/bridge
Implant
All of which cost a lot

So in short, just do the filling to safe you the trouble and money

How do I teach my 2year old daughter to brush her teeth?  icon_question.gif  sweat.gif
*
Make sure they have interest in teeth brushing, let them participate in toothbrush and tooth paste selection to increase their interest. Show them the consequences of not brushing so they will always remember to brush. IF they really refuse to brush, as parents , we can use wet cloth over finger to clean their teeth when they are sleeping.

*
it may be fast, but it may backfire on you even faster. Our teeth need time for the bone surround it to form to stabilize the teeth. If you do it within so fast period of time, it will bounce back

Usually just let it drop down. But if the shaking teeth causing her pain and discomfort, then you have to bring her extraction

I think my top wisdom tooth is finally decided to show it self as i feel pain on and off this pass few days especially at night. No collison. Semi out already.I was touching it with my finger & some small parts of tooth came out!! like chips of it. I think its rotten?

So I am planning to extract my top wisdom tooth since suspected got hole,( can feel it with my finger got big hole )& hard to maintain. What the cost like in private clinic. Entitle for MC?
Thank you very much in advance
*
Hi, the best way is to let a dentist to check for you as i cant give a confirm diagnosis just by your description. It is always recommend to remove the wisdom teeth if you unable to maintain the cleanliness. The cost will actually depends on your teeth condition. If it is erupting well, the dentist may charge you for normal extraction price (Rm50 - Rm100 ). If require surgical extraction, it will go to a few hundred

Hi doc, I am feeling very painful on one of my central incisor, I would like to know what is the possible treatment that i can expect from my dentist during my visit next week?

There's no cavity on the tooth.
I have search through the internet and some said root canal will do the work but i would like some professional help.
Plus the dentist that i will be visiting is a very expensive one so what is the best solution would you recommend me to go for?
*
The cavity might be at the side and is not visible, if the teeth is super painful, then most probably the infection has gone down to bone and root canal is the treatment

I been told that Fluoride is not an advisable element in toothpaste and secondly I have a gum that will bleed all the time when I brush my teeth.  How can I deal with this ?
*
Fluoride is not good for children age 8 and below. This is because ingestion of fluoride into our stomach will cause fluorosis. The teeth will have distinct white spot. Btw, our water supply does have a small amount of fluoride added

my wisdom teeth cracked/chipped about half just now and i can feel the sharp edge with my finger. no pain for now(hopefully not until i see dentist) but im not familiar with dentist around pj area

heard fixing the wistom tooth is very exp so i want to know which clinic has a good service and with reasonable price?
*
Well, you can get it filled or extract. Wisdom teeth is expensive because that teeth is very hard to fill/extract due to its position ( situated at most behind of the oral cavity )

hi..im 24 this year..i think is about time my wisdom teeth started to erupt..unfortunately..i think is impacted...bcs whn im chewing..my gum hurts...can i know how much it cost to remove it??
*
It depends on your area and what type of clinic you walking in... There are those clinic who cater to high end patient ( of course with high end price ), and there are those clinic which are more wallet - friendly. And also depending on the condition of your teeth, if it is a little bit more difficult, then it is fair for the dentist to charge extra. The range can cost from Rm500 - Rm1.5k

Similar to other cases discussed earlier, my back tooth was aching and dentist suggested root canal treatment, followed by crowning. I was a bit sceptical on this, because based on the condition of my tooth filing which is still good, no swollen gum or pus, fever, except for pain. I wonder on what ground the dentist make such judgement and recommendations.

While looking for second opinion, I am taking the prescribed antibiotics, which doesn't seem to help much. ALthough not constantly pain, but I still can't chew using the affected tooth

Anyone could shed some light?
*
If you having disturbed sleep, then the treatment is pretty straight forward. Root canal or extraction.

The crown after root canal is to strengthen the treated teeth. It is said that treated teeth are much weaker, BUT alot of people they sceptical of this crowning. I saw some fracture teeth after the root canal. But some their teeth survive. In short, think of crown as an insurans thumbup.gif

im having really pain tooth pain at my moral. I ate 2 aspirin also no relief to the pain. Should i took any antibiotic to stop the inflammation to the roots or straight arrange RCT? The pain is so unbearable
*
Medicine for toothache is just a temporary measure. You have to deal with the source of the pain - Bacteria inside the teeth itself. Either you extract ( not recommended ) or do a RCT

Hi,

I encountered terrible tooth nerve pain early this year.. and I did the root canal treatment . The problem solved.

After almost 10 months, my another tooth having the same problem. Yes. Both teeth had permanent filling before.
But it was quite sometime ago.

How to overcome this problem.? I brush occasionally (3 times a day) and use Listerine.
*
Sometimes, UNDERNEATH the filling there may have some remnant of bacteria due to fracture of filling. And this is the reason you will experience this bad pain.
Brushing 10x per day will not make you invincible to toothache, it just lower down the probability

How did they get there, why did the immune system not flush them out, why did the tubules in that tooth stop doing their job of keeping the tooth resilient? As they clearly have for many years, and still do for dozens of other teeth in the patient? "Bacteria" are always in our mouths, have been ever since mouths first evolved, and from before the moment of birth. Yet usually for many years of youth no such issues occur. Those are the dental questions that mystify me as an amateur observer of the topic! Of course that would imply that a dental issue usually has an undiagnosed/unnoticed medical issue underlying, or plain malnourishment (mineral misbalance etc). Your thoughts?

Sometimes? Given how small bacteria are, isn't this bound to happen every single time after the antibiotics/mouthwash used after/during treatment wear off? Especially taking into view a time frame of multiple decades of life?

I doubt that and would wager the opposite.. again as an interested bystander, not a dental professional. Brushing is clearly a somewhat abrasive action on enamel, especially weakened enamel. As are whitening products and toothpastes. Consequently, the harder, longer or more frequently one brushes, the more enamel is stressed --- in addition to and on top of abrasive and/or acidic food stuffs ingested.
*
1)Teeth have 3 layers, namely enamel, dentin and pulp. And it is sterile in pulp ( no bacteria ). Once enamel and dentin are breakdown by bacteria, the pulp will get infected and straight down to the bone beneath. It takes years for enamel and dentin to breakdown, once its inside pulp ( which is hollow by the way ) they have a straight down access to the bone.

2) In a properly placed filling, they are no way the bacteria can go underneath the filling and cause a cavity to form beneath the filling ( secondary caries ). Sometimes the filling might have microcracks due to chewing, wear and tear, that can cause secondary caries

3) Mostly the public have the idea of ' the harder i brush, the cleaner it get'. Our teeth is not toilet bowl! ALWAYS use soft toothbrush and brush in circular motion, use floss and mouthwash to maintain the oral hygiene. The abrasion on enamel is a normal occurrence of nature as we bite, chew, acidic food that we cant do much about it. It is worsen by improper toothbrush and technique

Hope this helps rclxms.gif
