I'm having braces for 3years+++ now in govt clinic and last few months i realized that my gum shrunk.

I didn't noticed it at first until the black triangle getting bigger at the bottom front teeth. I didn't have any treatment still until now.

And now i realized the upper front teeth is also getting a small hole. cry.gif

It will be very obvious if the hole getting bigger and i can't have a pretty smile anymore... cry.gif

Questions:
Is it because of the braces that causes the gum to shrink or because i had not done any scaling after having braces...?

Can i go to other private clinic to do scaling? Because the govt doctor didn't seem to care at all...

Will my gums grow back after scaling?

What else can i do other than scaling to get my gums to grow back?

Hope to get your reply soon. Thanks!!

Gum shrinkage due to braces is not uncommon, it is mainly due to prolong wearing of braces and dirty. Patient ,especially on braces should get their teeth professionally clean because food particle tend to get stuck on braces.

Yes, you can go to private clinic to do scaling. And by doing scaling, it can prevent the gum from continue shrinking, but for gum to grow back is difficult. If it is just a small black triangle, you can do a filling to make it not so obvious, or if it is very serious, you can do gum surgery.

Try ask your dentist when is he/she going to remove your braces. Prolong wearing of braces will lead to excessive bone resorption which lead to gum shrinkage

Can anyone here recommend a dentist who can provide good quality dental implant with reasonable cost in ipoh?

Try to get Dr. Mukhriz Bin Hamdan @ Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun.

I had my wisdom tooth removed by him. It was a very comfortable experience haha. And he is a very nice person biggrin.gif

Err guys.

I off my braces about 2-3 months back. Been given Invasalign-like retainer because I'd asked about the conventional-metal-type but they didn't make that one.

So I foresee the issue already, which is compliance from my part. And unfortunately its true.

I been off from using the retainer about 1 months plus, now feeling and able to see the gap start to formed already. I try to reinitate the usage of the given retainer but the pain.... :|

I been on Celebrex, PCM and Tramadol on night to use the retainer however on the morning after I can't speak properly due to pain.

Anyone able to suggest anything?

I am thinking that I have to other option apart from :
1/ Keep on forcing to use the given retainer with help of several analgesics.
2/ Reapply braces.

Hi,

i would like to know if extracting wisdom teeth in gh is good? safe?

my parents keep telling me to do it private and say money is not an issue. They're worried about the risks, i was being told that the nerve was not near the wisdom teeth though

This depends on the doctor's skill. I had my wisdom tooth extracted at ipoh GH (Hosp Raja Permaisuri Bainun) by Dr Mukhriz. Very professional and attentive. He explained what he will be doing before he started. Overall, it was a pain free experience. Even after the anaesthesia wore off, the soreness was bearable. smile.gif I very highly recommend him if you're in Ipoh.

Btw, he's a high rank doctor in that department so need to make appointment in advance.

Since your parents have said that money is not an issue, you have the option to look for a skilled and reliable dentist. smile.gif Go through this thread and you'll find there are even some dubious private dentists. So, choose carefully~~

A private doc referred me to Dr. Yuen from Hosp. Raja Permaisuri Bainun too. Were you under general or local? Was the tooth near the nerve?

Just local anaesthesia. Hmm, he never specifically mentioned if it was near a nerve. I'm assuming since our gums have many nerve endings in it, it could be? Haha.

I've not met Dr Yuen. Generally my experience at the clinic in Hosp RPB was great service-wise. Most of the staff I came across are friendly. Or it could because I kinda smile at everyone haha

Your gum in that area of your mouth has receded and exposed some nerve ends. Sweet foods are acidic hence why you feel a sharp pain when it kena your nerve.

Ps: I'm not a dentist. Just someone who goes to the dentist monthly (I'm an adult with braces) and always asks my dentist a lot of questions regarding oral care. smile.gif

Private RM100 and above. For govt, I'm not sure of the exact cost. You can actually call them up to ask. My relative did hers for free but could be under senior citizen.

Rotten wisdom teeth.... That part difficult to brush...
Should I purposely brush it? Is it OK to do so? It bleed.....

Dentist said don't bother, it's not worse. Extraction need to do surgery.

That part can't wash teeth or fill, according to her.

If it bleeds, it's time for you to remove them else it will be infected.
