Manchester United defender Phil Jones could face up to three weeks on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring strain during England's 2-0 win over Switzerland.

The 22-year-old has undergone a scan on the injury, which revealed that we will be out for between two and three weeks, according to the Daily Mail.

Jones is certain to miss this weekend's Premier League clash with Queen Park Rangers, in which new signings Radamel Falcao, Daley Blind, Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo could all make their debuts.

The Red Devils are yet to win a competitive game under manager Louis van Gaal this season.

Ander Herrera and Rafael returned from injury this week in Manchester United‘s 4-2 win over Bury in a game behind closed doors.

While it isn’t known how long either player featured for, it’s great news they were fit enough to play and puts them in contention for United’s match against QPR this weekend.

Both players have been sorely missed by Louis van Gaal’s side as Darren Fletcher has been unable to offer as much as the Spaniard while the likes of Valencia and Young simply aren’t good enough in the right-back position.

Whether or not Van Gaal considers the game this weekend too soon for both or either player to start, it won’t be long before they return to 100% match fitness and are back in the starting XI. The start to United’s season has been very poor with no wins in four games but Van Gaal hasn’t been helped by a plethora of injuries that has forced him to keep changing his side.
Now, with most of his first-team squad back in contention, the game against QPR could be where United start to play the sort of quality football they showed in pre-season.

Welbeck scored both goals in England's impressive win in Switzerland this week to hand them the perfect start to Euro 2016 qualifying.

But United boss Van Gaal has hit back at the critics and insisted Welbeck had his chance but failed to deliver.

Welbeck scored just 20 league goals in 90 appearances for United after making his debut back in 2008.

Van Gaal reckons that isn't good enough and is now banking on new loan-signing Radamel Falcao to join forces with Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie to do the job Welbeck couldn't.

In a parting shot at Welbeck that will infuriate the Three Lions star Van Gaal said: "We have spoken with Danny Welbeck and before the chance came that we could get Falcao.

"I have given all the players a chance to convince me of their qualities.

"Danny Welbeck was here when he was nine. He played three seasons at Manchester United but he doesn't have the record of Van Persie or Rooney.

"That is the standard and that is why we let him go because of Falcao, but also because of the youngsters who can fit in.

"I repeat, that is the policy and that is why I am here to do that, that transformation in that process."

Liam Brady has backed Arsène Wenger to transform Danny Welbeck into the next Thierry Henry at Arsenal.

The Gunners wrapped up a £16m deal to bring the England striker to Emirates Stadium from Manchester United on transfer deadline day last week.

Welbeck celebrated his switch to north London by scoring both goals in England’s 2-0 victory over Switzerland on Monday night.

And Arsenal legend Brady believes that Wenger will be able to get the very best out of the 23-year-old in the coming weeks and months.

“I’m delighted he’s signed for Arsenal,” Brady told BT Sport.

“Arsène Wenger’s track record with young players is strong. Look at Henry – when he came to Arsenal he was rough around the edges and was playing on the wing, like Welbeck.

“It took Henry time but Wenger polished him into a fine finisher and he can do the same with Welbeck.”
