QUOTE Crytek: Next Gen Consoles Are Too Weak for Crysis
Speaking at the Games Convention in Leipzig, Bernd Diemer, senior game designer of Crytek, explained that next-generation consoles don't offer enough computational power to run Crysis, German publication Heise reported.
Although Crysis will support both current and the next version of DirectX, Crytek claims that only DirectX 10 allows the game to run as it was intended by the developers because the next-generation DirectX API, which will ship along with Windows Vista, allows more effects and more objects to be drawn on the screen with a smaller computational cost for the hardware.
Diemer explained that "next generation consoles like the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 do not offer the sufficient power" to assure the quality of gameplay Crytek demand for Crysis.
Crytek reiterated at GC 06 that currently, Crysis in only in development for Windows. We haven't lost hope that we'll eventually see an Xbox 360 version of this first-person shooter.

QUOTE next-generation consoles don't offer enough computational power to run Crysis
Although Crysis will support both current and the next version of DirectX so technically if the game can be run on DX9, thats mean it sure can be run on XB360 and PS3. but nah i don't believe it can't be run on console with as good graphic and effect like PC. computing power that dedicated to fully running games only vs computing power that has to run Windows at the same time, don't think need a proffesor to figure which are more powerful.

using generic code written to cater to all platform, of course it will not be powerful enough the basic of console programming is optimisation for the intended platform, not just relying on raw power like on pc

QUOTE(Mgsrulz @ Aug 31 2006, 11:47 AM) precisely what i mean Well you have to understand that game engines are nowadays built to be able to take advantage of ever increasing power to future proof it to a certain extent. No new big engine (think Doom 3, Unreal 3 or whatever) is meant to be able to run decently at its max at release. For example, no rig ran Doom3 decently at its most super duper settings when it first came out. It wasnt crappy coding, it was intentional. Also, you'd need a nice big (and expensive) screen to run stuff at super high res anyway otherwise the fonts would be ridiculously small!
