1. any brand
2. budget rm800-1300
3. 2gb ram,8mp or above camera
4. smooth interface (no lag or screen stuck). good battery life, minimum hardware problem (no overheat and all) , good camera, fast internet browsing, can support high graphic games.
*
Mi3, OnePlus One, LG G2, Nexus 5, Xperia Z1 ap set, Xperia Z1 compact ori set, LG G Pro 2

All 2gb ram, 8mp camera and above and running on snapdragon 800 which is gud for gaming.

Best bang for buck would be mi3, RM769 ni. But down side is no LTE and mmc slot.

Nexus 5, G2, Oneplus One all will have LTE but no mmc slot.

If u wan both LTE and mmc slot then LG G Pro 2, Xperia Z1 and Z1 compact

I would pick G Pro 2 for it's 3gb ram. brows.gif But it's a phablet and the buttons are all at the back, not sure if it's ok for u.

Currently using Samsung Galaxy Note 1; after 3-4 years now is the time to upgrade. Planning to buy by end of December 2014 at the latest, earlier if there's a good phone out there already that I can afford.

Usage scenario: Gaming, lots of Internet browsing, phone calls, SMS, Viber, Whatsapp. My phone basically takes the place of my computer when I'm out and about.

1) Brand - Will consider any brand as long as warranty, parts and servicing are not too big a hassle. I'm planning to use it for minimum next 3-4 years though, and my phone goes literally everywhere with me so good build quality is a must.

2) Budget - RM2500 max

3) Specs-
Screen should not be smaller than my Note 1 (5.3"), preferably bigger than that.
RAM: 1-2 GB RAM, 3GB or more if possible.
CPU: Snapdragon 800 and above preferred; some of my apps are a bit CPU and RAM hungry.
Storage must be expandable using an SD card or USB OTG, since I keep my Calibre ebook library and database on my phone to read, and I have >15000 files on it at any one time.
Battery: Battery must be removable. Good battery life is a big plus -- however since I have a battery pack and generally can charge at work, I'm not too worried.

4) Wants - A good camera and good sound from the speakers, but I'm not too fussy. Smooth, minimalist interface and few bloatware apps preinstalled would be appreciated - the closer to stock Android the better. I'd try the Google Nexus 5 except the hardware's dated now, and no expandable storage.

Well, since u can wait, u can go for Note 4 or Note Edge during December 2014, I'm pretty sure it will be available dy.

For current phone, maybe u can consider Xperia Z2, LG G3

Both have 3gb ram and support external mmc.

Xperia's UI is similar to stock android, with minimal difference but battery not removable. While G3's battery is removable.

1. No brand preference.
2. Budget <RM800
3. and 4. 1Gb memory, <5" screen, front camera wanted, front/rear cam resolution not important, dual simm (1 2g is ok), sdhc expansion slot, sensor compass, size like redmi 1 or smaller (<138mm x 70mm), kitkat rom or planned update in future.

I need a recommendation for something other than the redmi 1s (already have it and might pass it on to family or sell it). Already considered the zenfone 4-4.5" but have reservations over battery life and screen resolution (might be too poor for reading since only 218-233ppi). Xperia M looked ok but cannot run apps on sdhc card and no kitkat update.

Zenfone 5, Redmi Note, Xperia M2 Dual, Galaxy Grand 2

Only Redmi Note not yet get kitkat iinm, not sure if there is planned upgrade for Redmi Note. Zenfone 5 and Grand 2 already got kitkat while M2 Dual planned upgrade.

If I'm not mistaken, since Kitkat, android do not allow users to install app in sd card dy. hmm.gif

Zenfone 5, Note, M2 dual etc are too big.

Kitkat doesn't allow apps on sd card but some stock roms allow it or users have a rooted app workaround (hoping there might be an unrooted workaround in future).

Edit- You're right. Maybe I should consider the Xperia M as well.

smaller ones like Moto E and Zenfone 4.5 specs are a bit low imho. If u can't take 5" size, then u'll have to make do with low specs.

Yea. afaik, u will nid to root ur phone and workaround, then u can install in sd card. not sure if stock rom supports installing app in sd card. hmm.gif

well, that leaves u with Lenovo phones, S660, S820. But both will not have kitkat and no compass function (based on gsmarena's spec).

If u wan below 5", some requirement of urs will not be able to be met.

Thats the problem, the phones with decent specs are usually bigger. Why are phones getting so big... I don't want to shell out for an iphone.

Is 1 of the sim slot for data plan? hmm.gif If u dun mind, u can actually get 1 mifi and put ur data sim into it. But u'll nid to carry 2 things out next time. Ur phone + the mifi device for ur data. That's what I'm doing. laugh.gif

I have no idea why android do not allow user to install app in sd card. doh.gif it's like indirectly asking ppl to upgrade their phone if not enuff space to install app in internal storage dy. doh.gif

Thanks for your recommendation bro. Assuming I want to buy a new phone by next month (this old phone getting slower and more unreliable by the day), which would you recommend I get apart from Note 4, which is supposedly coming next month?

Also, now I see from your post that Android Kitkat doesn't allow apps to be moved to SD anymore? That is bad news for me, have a lot of apps that are large sized. sad.gif

Note Edge might be out at the same time with Note 4. The curved screen at the right looks nice, added function to the phone. brows.gif

hmm.gif Since u have high budget, maybe Z3 or G3? These are the most top of the line flagship, which would be slight better futureproof. Android L shud be supported on them. One M8 just 2gb RAM, might not be enough for you.

for some phone u still can do it (install app in sd card), but u nid to go through rooting and stuff. Which might be troublesome for those who don't root their phone and just use everything stock.

Never tried rooting my phone before, so no experience on that end of things. As for the Note Edge: I'm not sure about the curved screen on the right, actually, since I tend to hold the phone more in my right hand.

How easy are the Z3 and G3 to root? Can both stand up to heavy use? Also, how frequent are updates? One thing I dislike about Samsung is the slowness of their update releases.

There are several one click root app for rooting nowadays. But how to specifically root Z3 and G3. I'm not sure, coz never tried b4. Nid to ask sifus in their respective phone threads. nod.gif But Z3 is not out yet, so surely not yet got rootkit. Sony usually target Asia market. So I think maybe October can get Z3 in Msia dy. brows.gif

Z3 might have better standby time, coz it is just 1080p display. Less battery needed to power the display. hmm.gif

Its a security thing for the change on the apps on sd card issue. Because dos/fat32 doesn't have folder/user permissions, apps could read/write anywhere on the card which is really bad. Most people aren't expert or careful enough so its a gaping hole in security.

Fellow androidians,

Can recommend me a good phone with a good camera (both stills and videos)
Currently using MI3 and find that the camera outputs are not that solid - especially the videos. The camera kept auto focusing during the recording and the sounds capture are have this cracking / breaking effect sad.gif

Budget around 1k. Was thinking of getting a used Z1 or HTC M7. The latter is having some serious QC issue though as I read from the thread.

Don't like super huge phone. 5" is a max for me.

Any suggestions smile.gif

Or I have to break the bank and get the iphone 6 when it's out.

Boss, I've just dropped by a shop earlier to ask about the Redmi Note. The lady there told me that their Redmi Note comes with a quad core, dual sim, 3g and 2gb ram? I thought such specs would come with octo-core Mediatek or is there some other variant I'm not aware of? rclxub.gif

most probably wrong information or imitation unit.

there is a low cost version of redmi note but it's still octa core (1.4GHz with 1gb ram), didnt heard about quad core 2gb before...

please try to get original malaysia unit which comes with 1.7GHz and 2gb ram.
