Fellow androidians,

Can recommend me a good phone with a good camera (both stills and videos)
Currently using MI3 and find that the camera outputs are not that solid - especially the videos. The camera kept auto focusing during the recording and the sounds capture are have this cracking / breaking effect sad.gif

Budget around 1k. Was thinking of getting a used Z1 or HTC M7. The latter is having some serious QC issue though as I read from the thread.

Don't like super huge phone. 5" is a max for me.

Any suggestions smile.gif

Or I have to break the bank and get the iphone 6 when it's out.

Hi all,

I'm currently a MI3 user. Love the MIUI very much as I'm coming from iOS so a much smoother transition smile.gif
Actually I like everything about the MI3 except for the camera, no LTE support and limited 16GB storage.

Done some research and found that LG G2 will fits by bill nicely (a more complete package - good camera, LTE, 32GB storage and love the fact that it is bigger at 5.2" but still having a smaller footprint than MI3 which is only 5". Never like those big phablet phones)

But checkout some sites/youtube and found the stock UI to be rather fugly. So I would like to flash the MIUI ROM for G2. Can anyone advise if this is easy to do/ok to do so? Say for the camera, would different ROMs affect the overall photo quality?

Any comment will be much appreciated.

LG G2's UI is definitely different from Mi3. But it's android. And u can flash MIUI rom or install MiHome Launcher.

if u flash MIUI rom, u'll get the whole package. U'll get the music player from MIUI, file manager from MIUI, the security app.

But if u juz want ur G2 to looks like MIUI, u can just install the MiHome Launcher. by installing the launcher, it will look exactly like MIUI and that's it. The app installed are still the original apps in ur phone. Launcher does not include those stock app in MIUI. It just makes ur phone looks like MIUI. The original music player, camera of G2 is till intact. Just that ur phone will look like it's running on MIUI skin.

Launcher is like for those that wanna keep some of the native app as stock app, like the camera etc.  :hmm:

Ah I know about launcher bro. But they won't change the look for stuff like the drop down notification bar, the settings screen etc.

yea. that's the launcher's limitation. hmm.gif I'm not quite sure if flashing G2 device is easy or tedious as I've never own a G2 before. Maybe u can ask in the G2 thread.  nod.gif

well. On comparison, I think the G2 is a good upgrade from Mi3. Bigger screen but more compact, bigger memory, better camera. Just that u nid to get used to LG UI or juz flash it with MIUI rom.  brows.gif

Maybe a bit out of context, just wondering, for AP sets, if we root and flash 3rd party ROMs, would it void warranty?

Bro, seems like you're the flashing gurus here eh.
Can you advise if we would flash different ROM on the phone, would it affect the photo quality of the camera?

Maybe.  Photo quality is determined by hardware and software.  Even though the hardware is the same, once you flash another ROM, photo quality may change.  Example:  Galaxy S4 flash to MIUI will still retain same photo quality (AFAIK) because it uses the stock camera.  Flashing to AOSP based ROMs will hurt the photo quality because they use stock Android camera.
Suspected so. Thanks for the link though it is a generic miui download page and not specific to G2 biggrin.gif

Have decided to go for Z2.
Can advise if I should go for the original set (going for a whopping RM2199) or I should just go for AP set(RM15xx) ie. from DirectD.
Any issue claiming for AP set, pro and cons?

Sorry if it's a bit off topic.

Thanks!

:hmm: do u nid it urgently? If not, I suggest u to wait for a while. Coz Z3 is launching soon in Msia. Sony Msia fb page is advertising dy. Once Z3 is out, I'm sure Z2 ori's price will drop.

on ori or ap. How far is ur place from Directd? If it is nearby, I suggest can buy AP je. Since any prob u can juz refer back to DirectD, if directd is near ur place la. I've been seeing mix review on directd by users, some say they are gud in warranty service, some say no good. So can't comment much on warranty service by DirectD.

If Ori set, then ur firmware update will be same as Msia set. Meaning when most of the ppl get update, u will get the update too. If AP set, i think it depends on the country of the origin of ur AP set. For example if the AP set is from HK, then maybe ur official firmware update time will be different with local set. But this is juz small prob, u can juz check out xda forum, usually there will be ppl capturing the OTA update, then u can juz flash the update rom.

Ah ok. Many thanks for the inputs as usual. Makes my decision making much easier ;)
