It'll be out about late October or early November. Street price would be about RM3299 body with 18-55mm Kit lens and RM2888 body-only.Canon dSLR 350D successor the 400D, It's getting hot, Sony Alpha, Nikon D80

QUOTE(SnowWolf @ Sep 4 2006, 10:01 PM) But actually the freebie 75-300 is not that great also ler..cos they didn't gib the IS models... if u fully utilize the zoom very easy to blur if you're not tripod mounted The EF 75-300mm is great as a all-rounder telephoto lens, and it's cheap (<RM1000). The IS version would cost about RM1000-RM2000 more depending on the make, L lens construction or non-L lens construction.Blurring at maximum focal length is actually not a lens problem, it's a user problem, let me explain. The way the user hold the lens is very important. At 300mm for a non-IS or non-internal focusing lenses, hold as far as poosible at the lens barrel to assist stability and keep the camera as close to your body as possible. In all cases, do not hold the lens at the focussing ring coz at AF, the barrel will be distrupted when the camera is trying to achieve focus. |

QUOTE(welwitchia @ Sep 5 2006, 05:23 PM) Err..guys, I was at Sunway Pyramid and the 350D price is RM3K. Includes Lens kit, 1Gb SD and a tripod. Is the price ok? I think i'll go for the 350D instead of the a100. I can't swallow the high noise at high ISO.. besides I don't think there's much difference between 8 and 10MP. 350D Kit with 1GB SD Card and Tripod is a good price! It is also worth it even if you decided to pay by credit card and the extra 2% for it. What do u sifus think? Any opinions? Thx! Nonetheless, get ready to be supplied with a dunno-what brand of card and tripod. Heck, even if they supply you that, just keep those as spare and buy better ones for everyday use-lor. Dun worry about the noise, I am yet to see a digital camera without a 'problem' of noise. What kind of noise do you expect to see at 3R to 8R on a 8MP or 10MP? Belilah 'tanpa was-was' ... as long as it's a Canon This post has been edited by ac98: Sep 6 2006, 09:52 AM |

QUOTE(shinchan^^ @ Sep 6 2006, 10:01 AM) The 400D comes with the EF-S 18-55mm F3.5, similiar one found with the 300D, 350D as well as the 30D if you're getting the Kit package. It was mentioned elsewhere that a Body-only package is also available, dunno how true, but I would advice newbies to take up the EF-S 18-55mm kit lens. This post has been edited by ac98: Sep 6 2006, 10:56 AM |

QUOTE(Categg @ Sep 6 2006, 01:07 AM) While you can forget about the issue about high iso noise and additional 2mp, the improved AF borrowed from the 30D might be worth it. For budget's sake, I suggest you change to the new 400D, which have lotsa similiarities to compared to the 30D. If you dun have lotsa lenses I suggest you sell off your D70s and 50mm while they still fetch a good price and get the 400D with EF18-55mm Kit Lens. That's changing from 6MP to 10MP you know ... poison poison poison ... As quoted from dpreview: I have been playing with a 30D a couple of days ago and the 50mm f/1.8 + larger viewfinder made it a breeze to focus, compose and shoot. The AF was much responsive compared to my D70s + 50mm f/1.8 so i think the AF does makes a difference in shooting. Now i'm even more gatal for D80.. unexpectedly poisoned myself thru a canon. Geez.... |

Nice try as well ... but actually I am not directing the poison at you. I know you're a Nikoner for good.
I am trying to target those poor souls out there who're still deciding whether to dump their 6MP D70/D70s to change over to the new 10MP Canon EOS 400D or not. I am sure there're many out there based on my observation during 2006 KLIMS and the 2006 Japan GT at Sepang. "It's cheap-mah, buy lor!" is the answer I always get when I ask "Why Nikon D70?" Canon made the next turn after Nikon this time in terms of releasing the EOS 400D simply becoz they (Canon) wanna be in the midst of the '10MP hype' that Nikon created days ago and it felt really good to see 1st hand all the photo enthusiates whacking up the units, some without even thinking. Those who started with the D50 and then got poisoned and strayed into the D70s should be too tired to invest by now, driven only by pure enthusiasm and have not gained any experience in shooting. The D80 is going to be just another heartache. Good news, nonetheless, to the D70s users, who are ever more willing to dump their units for the D80, but I suggest you keep your D70/D70s as a second unit. By the time the D80 is out, your D70/D70s is worth next to nothing. Most of the Canon EOS 350D user I met recently said "Bang head lar ... 350D 0% interest haven't finish serving the 400D come already! Ayoooo..." If you're one of those, consider yourself lucky. This time round, you have plenty of time to get yourself a 2nd camera body should Canon Malaysia decides to introduce the body-only package later! I made mention about this to the Canon folks months back and they said it won't happen to the 350D ... lil' that I know they did it with the 400D. On the other hand, the 10MP hype was also prominent in the point-and-shoot segment, but I bet the consumers would've gone "Nah ... why do I need a 10MP for? Not going to print a poster what!" So ... they decided for themselves. |

QUOTE(shinchan^^ @ Sep 6 2006, 05:15 PM) No point selling the D50 when the D80 is already out. Let me explain :Those who are still looking for a cheaper entry level Nikon camera won't go for 6MP models anymore. It would be a smarter investment to move up to the 10MP notch straightaway looking at the other major players coming up with models of the same MPs. Looking at this, retailers won't risk not able to sell the units or making a chicken feet profit out of selling them. It won't make sense as well. Doing so, it will give an impression to the potential customers that the model is 'obsolete'. |

QUOTE(User61 @ Sep 7 2006, 01:25 PM) I don't understand why do most of you (those already having D70/s,300/350D) have to upgrade to their replacement models. Although they have been upgraded, it most probably won't better your photo-taking skills at all even if you get the upgrades. I've seen P&S cameras being used to take amazing photos and even more so with D70/s,300/350Ds. They're already very good cameras in their own right. Do you really need those upgraded features? I agree with you on this but since you're quoting ME ...People upgrade for a few reasons. Firstly, they cannot wait to beat one another in the 'I gotta get it before you all' bandwagon. Secondly, there are a lot of 'I got money so what' people out there. Thirdly, people who have been so-called waiting for the 'best' DSLR finally gives it up and go get one. Lastly, people who already hit a wall with their own hardware (either compact cam or SLR) and decide to move on to a better tool. Malaysian camera buyers fall into at least ONE of the reasons I stated above, me inclusive. I dun deny the fact that anyone can be good with the tools they use, not only a camera, can be anything you use, but there are always advantages in moving into the latest technology because they give you a better edge and you move faster, more convenient and definitely improve in delivering results. More than a decade ago, no one even believe that you can take photos and videos of your children and show on the TV immediately after that. You can do it now with a RM699 camera. Did I mention that you can do the same with your phone to? P/S : Why need to save up and go for a semi-pro? Go straight up to PRO-mah, hahahaha ... * poison poison also * |
