it's not about cheap or expensive.

it's about the oil's base stock/additives, basically overall formulation being capable of meeting the majority of engine requirements.
and how can we tell if an oil meets (or do not meet) the required standards etc? manufacturer claims? all manufacturer are out there to make a profit. no one would be stupid enough to say how their oil is bad.

that's where 3rd party licensing/certification such as the API (able to publicly query their directory), ILSAC, ACEA and JASO etc are there to help govern/give end users an assurance that a product is up to par.
reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motor_oil

and YES, there ARE CHEAP full synthetic products that are API SN certified!

thought you used that? or at least we discussed about it long time ago lol

Very light oil. When I used it on my Shawie, white smoke come out laugh.gif Around 3800km of abused, it gave me a shock when I took out my dipstick. Oil mark stays at or slightly above MIN level. By 5000km, oil mark fall below dipstick indicator doh.gif However, that's the best FC oil I've used so far. It yield me an average of 15km/l for that 2 months period.

QUOTE(izso @ Apr 22 2015, 07:17 AM)
Sigh. The topic of diesel oils again.

Diesel oils have extremely high amounts of detergents in their formula mainly because diesel engines need it. On a petrol engine that's not a bad thing either. However diesel oils don't have as much of the other additives (if any) such as anti-shearing additives and high temperature resistance capabilities.

If you don't rev much, don't have a overly hot engine, change oils monthly like the other fella here, then you'll probably never have problems with your engine except for the average heavy price on the oil.

But if you are a heavy revver and change oils every 8000km then good luck to you.

Just to clarify, I never discuss engine oil with people. It's a sole discretion of chooshing huat ranjiao oil to put in the engine. If it's damaged, it's my engine, my wallet yang sakit. So don't worry about it. Merely kena dragged in by the bugger Quazacolt nod.gif Btw, am already practicing 15k mileage OCI.

If you don't mind I ask, what is anti-shearing additives and high temperature resistance capabilities? From where does any petrol based engine oil it stated the oil is anti-shearing and high temperature resistance?

for those additives mentioned, first page would have some info on it ma tongue.gif
more specific (i'll add to first page lol)
shear: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/oilshear.htm

for temperature, it generally deals with viscosity stability and prevention of oil flashing:
http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/putting-the-...into-viscosity/
http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/esters-in-sy...tic-lubricants/

as i believe these can be a bit complex for the general consumer/layman, they aren't specifically, if any at all.

Same here,  so I just go with shell, among the cheapest reputable brand full synthetic.
And sure no issues mixing especially if it's going to leak anyways lol.

I'm still finding Korean Zic lol,  iinm at Jalan Ipoh got a Korean car specialist workshop that has that engine oil banner.

Unfortunately didn't visit since I was short on time for my brakes servicing at nestum

You mean ZIC A+ 5W30?
At what price would you consider buying?

The last I got the 20W50 for RM35 back in 2013, may be it's recycle oil lar. But the oil is pretty darn good, I used it for 2 consecutive oil change with improved FC. Until, my magician say his supplier run away, he no longer carry that oil.
