Been using Shell and Castrol fully syn for a long time.

A friend of mine always buys Bardahl (hope i spelled it correctly) for the last 7 yrs on his 2 cars, and seems to be fine as well.

Wonder why bardhal is much cheaper to others and any review by users here?

There are many oils much cheaper still than Bardahl.  biggrin.gif

Hmmm still wondering the quality difference? My friends purchase those around RM90, dirt cheap compared to shell/castrol

Hi, my millage is low and currently car warranty period is over.
i would like to ask whether i can actually use full syn engine oil more than 6 months?
i drive around 5-6k km every 6 months.
*
What car do you drive?
Whats the driving condition....traffic heavy or highway?
Distance traveled in a day?

Generally, you could go to 8-10km depending on the traffic condition.

my car is kia forte 1.6
driving about 25km every working day
98% city driving and traffic not heavy
*
Does your manual says oil change is 5000km, is it with semi?

City driving do have higher wear and tear, hence you need to have a closer lookout on your oil quality after 5K km. Because the filter might be build for about that period of run.

Fully Syn should be able to run 10K, just make sure the oil is not too dark or had lost its viscosity.

Since your spec is X-30; any reason you want to go with X-20?

Anybody here tried Tesco fully synthetic 5w40? How's it ? Thx
*
I think couple of them who had used and reported, they are fine.

I think end of the its very individual preference,

the type of car they use, I dont mine using it on my Optima but definitely I would not use it on my PassatCC
type of engine one runs
driving habit
distance/traffic
etc

my 2003 toyota camry 2.0e already 278 000km , from day one till now im using fully synthetic 5w 40 ... i always service my car on time , but some people do recommend me semi synthetic 10w 40 due to high mileage .. is it true
*
I would recommend to stick with xW-40 fully synthetic, i used my wira 1.6 till 250k km and recently sold my Optima at 200k km as well, till the day I sold no engine issues and they were as smooth as it can be

PLs, dont trust local advertisers! lol..

Synthoil and molygen are fully synthetic; whereas special tec, top tec are slightly higher than semi-synthetic using what they call as "synthetic technology"

What car are you using it on? If its VW, both are compliant.

I want switch to 5w40 from 0w20. Not sure its suitBle for my car or not but saw there is people recommend using it
*
whats your car model, mileage on it and year?

For Msian weather; which is really hot, thicker viscosity do help.

Honda civic 2014 1.8. 54k mileage.

If that so, 5w40 is good to use
*
Different people apply diff school of thought.....its again up to you.

I feel 40 or 30 would do. 30 would give better response but 40 would have better protection but heavier oil; hence one may or may not feel the difference in pickup, you need to test it out. No harm test for a cycle, if you dont like then switch.

I'm not well verse with Civic, bcoz some manufacture due to engine engine design do mandate certain viscosity only, hence do check your manual.

Bael oil level gets very complex...but if one is using standard non performance car, personally, I think its fine to use Base II synthetic oil, since it has gone the standard test and approvals.

But for performance and European car which requires specific approval (test) better to go with BaseIV.

Most most US/Canada when they declare as fully synthetic its bare minimum at Base III

No discount also, bought it at one of the authorised dealer in Motul website. Inside the place light was ambient, after paid and carry to car only look at the labeling and realized the date, then brought back to the shop immediately. I asked what is the shelf life for transmission fluid and he answer maximum 3 years, then I showed him the date for the CVTF that I just bought. He claim that the printing is not the date but some unique serial number, I insisted that must be the date and asked him to bring over some bottles of other oil and the same oil to show me. He did that, other oil are printed different date but for for my CVTF, whole batch are all same date, he told me they just received the stock from their supplier, all are in same batch, even he close his eyes and grab one from the rack also same year. He claimed that is ok to use cus they stored in good environment.
I requested for refund but was told that because they have been opened during the time I make payment to check for the seal which I requested they to open for me. vmad.gif
So my concern is whether these CVTF are save to use?
Btw, what is the selling price here in Malaysia?
*
You should just return it, they have no right to reject your claim.

Just inform the shop they if they dont exchange or refund then you would be going to tribunal.

How / What to feel? blink.gif
Thanks for your advise, but for this case do they really have right to reject my claim?
They said they agree to refund but since the seal cap have been opened, then they reject my refund. The seal was opened by them requested by me to check for all the bottle seal during payment. No point to exchange as mentioned earlier, all bottles are the same batch.
*
Your argument would be market acknowledge bottle shelf is 5 years and this shop is selling an old stock....that is a legit claim. even the seal is opened still should not be a problem to return.

QUOTE(Ancient-XinG- @ Nov 14 2018, 12:41 PM)
Dear sifu, I just did a major service on tyt SC (200k km)
Previous 3 years was on Synthium 800 10w-40.

Now the Toyota SC I opt for semi 5w-30, their in house EO. they don't have 10w 40

After this is it ok to back with 800 10w-40? For better overall performance and protection for the engine (1NZ-FE)?

So, I get back to pet page, they have a new EO under synthium 800 too which is 5w-30. Actually to my understanding, the W have nothing to do with our country, and the number at the back 40 is thinker than 30 in optimum temperature. Shall I cont with 5w-30 or go to 10w 40 like before?

And anyone used SynGuard by BHP? hows their performance?
And I confuse on their line up too, they have synguard 6000 and 6000 ECO, cant find any diff between them...
*
personally i would go with XW-40, especially on a 200k engine.
