If looks score high in your requirements, the A250 will have an edge. For everything else, I'm afraid the A250 will not fare better than the GTi. And of course, there is the badge argument. blush.gif

Yup, look at it this way la, the A250 won the race even without having to start the engine thumbup.gif

Hi Guys,

Just a random comparison on both A250 and GTi, which one would be a better choice?

How long is the waiting list currently for A250 Sport?

*Not sure whether it has been discussed before as most of the threads I see are just A250 vs (BMW Models)
*The reason I'm comparing these two is because the price is about 10k difference (A250 & GTi [Tech Pack])

Feel free to express your views on both cars.

although they are roughly the same price, they are very very diffrent cars for diffrent segments of consumers.

GTI is for drivers...ppl who love to drive, love handling and performance

A250 is for more brand conscious ppl, a car to show neighbors that you have "arrived". I dislike the a250 interior because its too ah beng...the red aircon rings etc..and the horrendous small pop up monitor. The A200 has a more refined interior because of the brush aluminium instead of carbon/red trim

and warranty as well...but you should be able to get about 20+k off for 2013 GTI so the choice is much easier if i'm blessed with having your dilemma  tongue.gif

ahh yes. The 4yrs instead of 2+3. How can i forget that.

Yes. 20k+ off is possible. Not for the Tech Pack specified by TS though. These are very hard to come by, and when they do, they are instantly snapped up within days.

Actually the Golf R is just 247k for base spec...just 9k more then a A250, i think that should be the proper comparo smile.gif

If looks is your priority - A250
If what you want is a hot hatch with performance - Golf GTI

If u want to be grouped as a high class ahbeng, get merc
If u just wanna enjoy ur ride, plus more practical, get golf gti instead
A class stiff riding, smaller interior, is a big letdown..
If i were u, at this moment of time i would get the golf gti

How about the ride comfort, reviews stats that the Merz is quite stiff and harsh and is not suitable for daily drive. How true is that? Is it that bad?

both are performance car. so, comfort wise should be out of topic ba. doh.gif

even if you want a hot hatch, getting a car that looked like it belongs to an aunty fetching kids to school is a let-down. that is exactly the kinda look the Golf is giving out.

What i meant is that I saw many automotive blog reviews mentioning the A250 is very stiff and harsh till that it is not suitable for daily drive, therefore I'm asking anyone here especially those who own one whether it is really true of the A250 being that stiff.

Different folks have different views of what a hot hatch is and looks is always a subjective matter. To some, having the power makes all the difference (e.g. a modded A250 with a piggyback and exhaust mod dynos at 219ps at the wheel and a stock GTI Mk7 dynos at 217ps at the wheel, both using the same dyno).

Buying a hot hatch for "looks" alone is a bit of a joke, isn't it? blink.gif

I think you should first understand what does "hot hatch" means, and why it exist in the first place.

If the R was compared, it wouldn't be a comparison anymore. It would be a humiliation as the performance difference gap is way too huge. R should be compared to the A45 but the price A45 is asking almost makes it a joke to compare with an R.

I am starting to confuse myself here. rclxub.gif

Those looking for the fastest way around a corner will appreciate the likes of GTi / Megane / Fofo ST at that price point.

The A250 caters more to those who thinks "why would I spend RM220k on a VW when I can get a Merc?" and is not particular about track times, but like to have a good looking and luxurious small car to get around.

Not to say the A250 is not capable, just that the badge means it appeals to a mostly different crowd than the VW.

Not so long ago there was a tered where the TS was complaining about the A250's stiff suspension? He certainly wasn't looking for a powerful ride, and seems to have been misled by his SA because he tested the A200 and liked it.
