Well Vidic has taken MORE than his fair share of cards over the years too Rio is the only one I recall had pretty exceptional ability to read/anticipate/time his tackles..pro at defending effectively while avoiding cards.

For me, the main thing with a defender (aside from being effective at repelling opposing attacks) is:
1) Avoid OG / stupid & suicidal defending moves that leave the GK wide open for 1 on 1
2) Avoid conceding penalties

If Rojo gets the occasional card but is good at protecting our DDG and defense..I can live with it (although if he can avoid cards then all the better, obv).

This team beat Arsenal 8-2. Only SAF can pull off such a result with these bunch of 'mediocre' players

personally i rate Jones higher than Smalling n Evans.

when the vidic/ferdinand combo was still around, whenever Evans got the playtime, u kinda expect to concede 1-2 goals lol.

This. I rate Jones ahead of Smalling as well. Everytime I see Smalling play, he's like a headless chicken.

Jones has a bit more of a confident/aggressive aura even-though he is younger.

Smalling and Evans sometimes seem a bit "soft" in comparison. Both (esp Evans) are actually pretty good IF partnered with someone senior to order them around and organize things. I recall when we went on our mega clean sheet streak a few years ago (around 2007/2008?), Evans did his part with either Vidic or Rio (if memory serves) when he was played.

Yeah, and that exposed United's weaknesses especially at LB. Young is sufficient when he it L/RWB and more than enough cover at the back, but not as LB. Now with Rojo signed, at least United have cover for both CB and LB/LWB positions.

If ADM really comes to United, I would also think the 4-3-3 would be his main choice now that a "specialist" is added to the team. I would imagine Janujaz and ADM as one of the two wingers with either RvP or Rooney as ST. The midfield, still up in the air, but for now I think it would be Mata, Herrera and Fletcher or Carrick. Not too bad I think.
