David De Gea – Fairly quiet, but generally solid game. Diving catch from Isco his highlight. 7/10.
Jonny Evans – Good enough when called upon, likely to feature heavily under Van Gaal until someone is brought in. 7/10.
Phil Jones – Like Evans, performed well in a new look United defence, could be his break-through season. 7/10.
Michael Keane – Skinned by Gareth Bale and gave away a penalty. A harsh lesson to be learned against top sides. 5/10.
Antonio Valencia - Gave Nacho a hard time down right side. Looks refreshed after disappointing World Cup. 7/10.
Ander Herrera – Sure to be a star at United. Beautiful vision and some ever promising link up with countryman Mata will excite Reds fans.7/10.
Darren Fletcher - Good awareness for first goal. Picked up in central position and squared to Young under pressure. Experience could be key in United’s new regime. 8/10.
Ashley Young- Took first goal well to slot past Casillas. Dangerous, swooping ball in for the second, which he will claim after Rooney just missed out on making contact. Looks a new player under Van Gaal. 8/10.
Juan Mata – Starting to look as dangerous as he was in his Chelsea days. Slick, clever player with plenty of invention. 7/10.
Wayne Rooney- Unfortunate not to get on the end of Young’s ball to claim United’s second goal, but looks at home in their attack. Flashes of genius that they will need from him all season long. 7/10.
Danny Welbeck – Went off injured during the first half but was largely anonymous during his time on the pitch. 6/10.
Noteable substitutions:
Wilfried Zaha – Must do better. Make or break season for the youngster but too many failed tricks led to loss of possession. 5/10.
Shinji Kagawa – Delightful chip for Hernandez’s goal to make it 3-1, the kind of delivery we’ve rarely seen during his time in England. 7/10.
Javier Hernandez – Typical potency in the penalty area bagged him a goal for his cameo appearance. 7/10.

David de Gea 7 – Was unable to keep out Gareth Bale’s penalty but showed great concentration when called upon every other time by Real Madrid.
Michael Keane 6 – Will be having Bale shaped nightmares for at least a month after being turned inside out by the Welshman more than once. Did do well to keep his head following those wobbly moments though.
Phil Jones 7 – In the heart of defence, Jones was very assured and it was another comfortable performance from him.
Jonny Evans 6.5 – The Irishman is starting to gather momentum and given his natural ball playing ability, he could thrive under Van Gaal.
Antonio Valencia 6 – Uneventful performance that was underwhelming, especially when you compare it to Ashley Young‘s.
Ashley Young 8.5* - Young’s deserved man of the match award came after what was potentially his best 45 minutes in a United shirt, albeit in a friendly, against Madrid. Two goals capped a fine performance in which he did his fair share of defensive work and was a constant threat down the left.
Ander Herrera 6.5 – There’s a slight irony in that Herrera was the player whose first touch seemed to elude him given United’s slick football but he still showed great tenacity to win the ball back.
Darren Fletcher 8 – That was a pre-injury performance from Fletcher, the sort many (myself included) questioned whether we’d ever see again from the midfielder. Dominant, controlling and full of energy, Fletcher was outstanding.
Juan Mata 7.5 – Mata could become a modern day Spanish midfield equivalent of Denis Irwin – he always gets at least a 7/10. Against Madrid, he wasn’t at his cutting best but still had plenty to offer going forward.
Danny Welbeck 7 – Pepe and Sergio Ramos literally resorted to kicking Welbeck off the pitch as his movement was a constant thorn in their side. Was a real shame to see him go off injured.
Wayne Rooney 7 – Rooney’s rebirth under Van Gaal continued with another strong performance that nearly included a goal as well.
Substitutes
Luke Shaw 6.5 – Much better from Shaw who really impressed after coming on at left-back.
Wilfried Zaha 6 – Zaha is still yet to open up fully and blossom. Hesitant at times with what to do when squared up against a defender.
Tyler Blackett 6.5 – Didn’t look out of place against the European champions. Also faced up against Ronaldo and won the tackle with ease. Impressive.
Javier Hernandez 6.5 – Chicharito‘s goal could do wonders for his confidence. Whether that means he’ll walk into Van Gaal’s plans remains to be seen.
Shinji Kagawa 6.5 – A delicious ball for Chicharito‘s headed goal epitomised his impressive cameo performance.
Jesse Lingard 6 – Jesse stretched Madrid and gave United an outlet in attack. Delivered an inch perfect ball for Hernandez who was inches away from getting on the end of it.

http://www.vavel.com/en/football/premier-l...er-ratings.htmlDavid De Gea 8/10: Left fairly quiet in the first half, after the men in front of him defended well. Was kept on his toes by Gareth Bale who guided a couple of strikes straight into the arms of the Spaniard stopper. Could do nothing about Bale's calmly taken penalty. Wonderful save from Isco's close-range strike early in the second half and on a whole, De Gea commanded his area well for the duration.
Michael Keane 7/10: Brought down Bale in the box to award Real Madrid with a penalty after he was out-paced on the turn. Did however manage to work well with Jones to keep Madrid's forwards at bay after giving away the spot kick.
Phil Jones 8/10: With little threat posed, Jones remained unoccupied for most of the first half. However, he looked comfortable playing in the central role in the back three and organised his defence well across the full 90.
Jonny Evans 8/10: Looked solid in defence, and carried the ball out of defence with confidence. Another experienced display from the defender.
Antonio Valencia 7/10: The Ecuadorian yet again always provided an outlet wide on the right-hand side of the pitch, despite not seeing much of the ball. His consistency continues.
Darren Fletcher 8/10: very much at the heart of United's midfield throughout and was heavily involved in United's first goal. Organised the whole side very well yet again as captain.
Ander Herrera 8/10: Another confident performance from the Spaniard, who looks like he's been playing in United's midfield much longer than he has been. He orchestrated some good patterns of play in midfield, spraying passes across the park throughout his 45 minutes on the pitch.
Ashley Young 9/10: Finished off a wonderful bit of play from United to score at the near post. Operated well down the left side, causing problems going forward. Scored a second in the 37th minute when a cross intended for the head of Wayne Rooney glided untouched into the far post, leaving Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas flat-footed.
Juan Mata 8/10: Very involved throughout. Opened up Madrid's defence at times with some cutting passes. Mata has clearly been coming up with some clever set-pieces with fellow forward Rooney, as he came close with a shot from Rooney's chip over the Real Madrid wall. His passing was accurate and overall display was impressive.
Wayne Rooney 8/10: Rooney looks happy and is clearly enjoying his minutes under van Gaal. He produced a wonderful backheel to complete a one two with Fletcher in build up to the first goal.
Danny Welbeck 8/10: Played the ball off to Young for the first goal. Caused havoc up top, putting constant pressure on the Real Madrid defence. Unfortunately, Welbeck had to be taken off in the 41st minute due to an injury.
Subs
Tyler Blackett (45' for Evans) 7/10: Impressed again as manager van Gaal continues to have faith in the youth of the club. Worked well alongside Jones and fellow youth team player Keane.
Luke Shaw (45' for Young) 8/10: Shaw looked confident in the same left wing-back position. Strength, pace and awareness all describe his evening. Another 45 minutes which will have impressed van Gaal, as the youngster looks to cement his place in next-season's starting-11.
Tom Cleverly (45' for Herrera) 7/10: Wasn't heavily involved when he came on but did the job that was required. One strike from the edge of the area had the crowd roaring as he thrashed the ball into the palms of Casillas, who could only pat away.
Jesse Lingard (45' for Valencia) 8/10: Operated in the right wing-back role tonight once Valencia departed. Lingard teased Madrid's defence with a splitting ball, however the toe of Hernandez was not enough to steer in another United goal.
Shinji Kagawa (45' for Mata) 7/10: Wasn't as lively in place of Mata but did show glimpses of his quality, especially when he provided Chicarito with a chance to redeem himself after an earlier miss, allowing the Mexican striker to head home.
Wilfred Zaha (41' for Welbeck) 7/10: Managed to get in some good positions in the final third, but the experience of Pepe often halted the danger. Zaha had some difficult opportunities in front of goal and was unlucky to not convert at times.
Javier Hernandez (45' for Rooney) 8/10: Had a great opportunity to grab United a third but failed to generate enough power in his left foot to beat Casillas. Managed to make up for that miss later in the game as he converted a Kagawa cross with a powerful header.

David de Gea - Made some solid saves, including a stop from a Gareth Bale overhead-kick. Distributed the ball superbly. 7/10
Michael Keane - At fault for the penalty. As you’d expect he struggled marking one of the best players in the world in the form of Gareth Bale. 6/10
Phil Jones - What a warrior. He’s a class centre-back with a run of games under his belt. Put his body on the line whenever needed tonight, and made some class tackles. Man of the Match 8/10
Jonny Evans - Looked comfortable all night. Made some key interceptions and got the ball moving forward quickly. 7/10
Antonio Valencia - Full of pace, but thats about it. He’s very one-footed and his crossing was poor. 3/10
Darren Fletcher - Bossed the midfield. Kept it simple, and played some nice passes. Did well in the build-up to Young’s frist goal. 8/10
Ander Herrera - Shown glimpses of what he can do. Linked up superbly with Darren Fletcher and a nice bond is forming with Juan Mata. 6/10
Ashley Young - Stole the show with an excellent goal. Rounded off a twenty pass move with a calm finish, and looked very good in his new wingback role. 8/10
Juan Mata - What a player in the #10 spot. He pulled the strings early on and caused his boyhood club all sorts of problems. 7/10
Wayne Rooney - Looked full of energy, and was involved with most of United’s attacks. Superb. 7/10
Danny Welbeck - Pace and power is what Danny Welbeck is about, and once again Real Madrid looked unable to cope with him. Unfortunate to go off with an injury. 6/10

Wilfried Zaha - Looked lively, but didn’t really threaten the Real Madrid goal. 6/10
Luke Shaw - Bombed forward and put in some excellent crosses. 7/10
Tyler Blackett - Dealt with Ronaldo very comfortably when he came on. Looks strong and full of talent. 7/10
Tom Cleverley - Kept it simple and played the safe passes. Did ok on the whole. 6/10
Shinji Kagawa - Grabbed himself an outstanding assist for Manchester United’s third. Seems to thrive in the coveted #10 role. 7/10
Jesse Lingard - Played a delicious ball across the box, but I’m not really sure a right wingback role is suitable for Jesse. 6/10
Javier Hernandez - Took his goal very well, but perhaps should’ve had another one or two. 6/10
