Should be it. Shooting at f1.4, ISO 100 and 1/128 direct flash can still result over exposure if the flash is too close to the subject.

Edit: ignore this comment, I didn't saw your picture just now so my reply isn't relavant .

Not bad, but why so high ISO?
*
ISO 800 isn't that high tongue.gif

further more it's only 1/500, incase the bird starts to fly you still need faster shutter speed to freeze the action.

How much is a secondhand 5dm3 nowadays? Including 24-105 kit lens. Thanks!

Body only I saw quite a few selling below 7k, 24105 is about 1,5k used.

I know I know,

Flash will come later as I mentioned.
Now rely on natural light and I got 1 430 flash
Once save up then can get tripod for flash and another 2 more flash

Understand the fight between ff and crop
Want ff because it is a one time off why not just go with it?

Know lighting is important, cause we got environmental light disturbances if we rely on natural lighting only

L lens is marketing, I going to get 24-70mm f4L for leisure taking photo. And I'm going to use 50mm 1.8 on food photography
*
what makes you think that u need FF?

and why 50mm for food instead of 24-70?

I dont know what is the suitable budget for speedlite.. Hopefully lowest price with good quality.. Maybe rm500? smile.gif

i think you can get a used Canon 430EX II with that amount of money (or top up a little more), very good flash for beginner already smile.gif

3rd party is a lot cheaper, but TTL (auto mode in flash) might not be as stable or accurate as Canon's own flash.

what is your primary usage for flash though?

what beginner? I use that 430EX II for my professional works! It's awesome flash.

More than enough for table top photography and it's a lot lighter than the 580EX II.
*
oh i didn't mean the flash is less capable. but its quite cheap, light, small and easier to use (button layout) compared to 580. smile.gif

How about videography? Which lense do you usually use?
True.. I have to agree on the F stop. If having the Full Frame and is another one stop further down. Hehe. But anyway, I have a fren who play vintage camera ( Fujifilm ) with all the fixed lenses. He said, once he played prime lense, he learned the purpose of each lense and will apply into different scenario, like what you said. True I could have issue using prime lense after 4 years of using zoom lense with Tamron.

At first I thought of whether want to trade my Tamron away and get the same 17-50mm Sigma F2.8, or the more exp Canon 17-55mm F2.8 lense. But since now my issue is just for the video wise, I found no issue in taking photo with it. And also, the chances to playing video is not quite often, so my plan now is to keep the Tamron and get another 50mm canon F1.4 lense for better Bokeh and also videography purpose.

Now you just mentioned the 85mm lense make me thinking whether want to get or not. I've never tired any lense that more than 50mm ( Usually I play portrait and scenary, those food photo usually I use handphone camera lol ). Maybe you can brief me on the 85mm general purpose for this lense. tongue.gif. Already confirmed to get Tokina Wide Angle lense next year Feb after play it in the camera shop. I have to admit, playing wide angle lense is so much fun than portrait. That's my preference though lol
*
Fujifilm isn't anu kind of vintage camera imo. it's a modern camera hiding inside a classic looking shell.

Not an expert in food photography but I think a simple kit lens can do the job? And for the 85mm, there's no specific purpose imo, you can use it for everything anyways (well that kinda applies to all the lenses out there), but most people would use it for portrait or low light (where the f1.8 or larger aperture comes in handy).

Just got a Yong Nuo 565EX ii and the TTL it wasn't as good as my 565EX (ver.1).  The shop I bought it from also said that they don't carry 560EX anymore because too many problems and only sell 560 III.

But luckily the 565EX ii works great as an off camera flash through Channels 1,2,3,4.  So I'll be keeping it for that purpose.

I guess some of the latest Yong Nuo flashes have real quality issues.  So probably best to avoid Yong Nuo 565EX ii and 560EX.
*
They even produce 50mm f1.4 (well ripped off from canon). Curious about the price and performance though.

EDIT: jumped ship to Olympus recently, so maybe remove me from 550D user list? Still have the M tho.

I'm gonna use it as for many group photos.. By using built-in flash, it is not so good..
I'm thinking of Yongnuo brand is it good?
I'm also considering 430ex too.. smile.gif
*
how are you going to use it for group photos by the way? direct flash?

i don't own the 430ex, but I have the "legendary" 560II manual flash. such a workhorse and never fails me even it only costs rm200+.

Of course no need to ask about M43's fastest champion AF in daylight.  But curious to how it Olympus's autofocus in low light.  Is it so good where there is no need to think about having a Canon DSLR+ Flash AF Assist beam to handle those dark situations?
*
haha yeap, impressive performance in daylight, almost instant focus on still subject (different story on moving things). hmmm I would say it's still uncomparable with a proper DSLR + flash AF, since in low light you don't get high contrast things to start with. a fair comparison would be a dslr without any assist beam turned on, but i don't have any dslr with me right now so can't really compare.

I don't think EOS M2 is available in Malaysia yet. But you can get it from lelong.my.  EOS M2 is much better compared to EOS M especially on the AF part.
But I personally think that there are more room for improvement such as flip screen, EVF and better burst rate.

Looks like EOS M2 is sold here.  All I hear about it was that the AF is faster than EOS M1 and suppose to be faster than 1 sec.  And the body is slightly smaller than the M1.  But the price isn't attractive yet.
*
So basically better AF (how much better though?), Wifi and other small changes? For rm2.6k most people wouldn't consider it when Sony has it's a6k with kit around 2.2k.

let's wait until m3 is out then we can have m2 for 1k tongue.gif

Guys, one more question, usually for wide angle lens, will you guys prefer better F stop like 2.8 rather than 4.0, 5.6 or features like Canon Image Stabilizer (IS)?

The reason I ask this is because I'm reading the comparison between Canon 10-18mm lense which was released 5 months ago and Tokina 11-16 F2.8 lense. There are pros and cons and giving the best buck, quite a number of people prefer canon because of the Image Stabilizer and much sharper photo though the Aperture is abit let down.
*
if you shoot low light including moving subject, get the tokina.

if not, get the canon, way smaller, cheaper, quite sharp and has IS (super useful for video).

saw that, but probably not. i think canon will use the same EVF made for the g1x on the m3, external i mean.
