Upgrading of firmware is a risky procedure; do it with utmost care and attention:
> When performing the firmware upgrade, please use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FW50 or the AC adaptor AC-PW20 (sold separately).

> Do not remove the battery or AC adaptor during the upgrade; otherwise, the camera may become inoperable due to the sudden power shutdown.

>Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.

>When using an A-mount lens with the LA-EA2 Mount Adaptor (sold separately) and setting to use the AF Micro Adj. function, the registered value is reset

anyway everyone reserve the right to their opinion and to share it, as long as they dont openly attack other ppl opinion.

Canon EF mount boleh? brows.gif

P.S. Are we ever going to merge the Alpha A-mount and Alpha E-mount/FE-mount threads back, as is intended by our Sony overlords who have killed the NEX naming altogether?

Depends how fast is fast lor. When it was fast, it was still a habit that we were used to. Now it's slow, but instead of taking subjective perception, let's have some numbers!

The Sony E/FE Mount Thread:

v5 Aug 13 2013 - May 19 2014 - 279 days
v4 Nov 8 2012 - Aug 12 2013 - 277 days
v3 Jan 25 2012 - Aug 2013 - 201 days
v2 Jun 25 2011 - Dec 28 2011 - 186 days
v1 Oct 1 2010 - Jun 21 2011 - 263 days

The Sony Alpha Thread:

v59 Dec 24 2012 - Feb 11 2014 - 414 days
v58 Jul 16 2012 - Dec 20 2012 - 157 days
v57 Mar 15 2012 - Jul 13 2012 - 120 days
v56 Dec 22 2011 - Mar 14 2012 - 83 days
v55 Oct 31 2011 - Dec 21 2011 - 51 days
v54 Sep 3 2011 - Oct 31 2011 - 58 days
v53 Jun 11 2011 - Sep 3 2011 - 84 days
v52 Apr 3 2011 - Jun 10 2011 - 68 days
v51 Feb 28 2011 - Apr 2 2011 - 33 days
v50 Jan 25 2011 - Feb 28 2011 - 34 days
v40 May 8 2010 - May 25 2010 - 14 days
v30 Aug 17 2009 - Sep 9 2009 - 23 days
v20 Jan 23 2009 - Feb 13 2009 - 21 days
v10 Jul 11 2008 - Jul 26 2008 - 15 days
v2 Feb 27 2008 - Mar 19 2008 - 21 days
v1 Jun 15 2007 - Feb 27 2008 - 257 days

The start date is of the first post while the end date is found by adding /+2500 to the end of the URL, and looking at the date of post #2501.

Date difference using this: http://www.timeanddate.com/date/durationresult.html

How many days will it take to hit 2500 with a merged thread? E/FE-mount v5 went at 8.96 posts/day while Sony Alpha v59 went at 6.04 posts/day. This adds up to 15 posts/day, and 2500posts / 15posts/day = 166.66 days. Quite manageable.

Let's... have a good ol' list.

I say YES to merging The Sony Alpha Thread and The Sony E/FE Mount Thread:

2. albnok
3.
4.
5.

I say NO to merging The Sony Alpha Thread and The Sony E/FE Mount Thread:

5.

Supposing X is the number of posters in The SONY E-Mount Thread ver. 5. The voting can be finalized when:

1) the votes reach 2/3 of X

OR

2) the YES or NO votes exceed 1/2 of X

I guess a moderator has access to find out X - I think I remember ianho used to tell us who the most active poster was... I can't find such statistics myself.

Yes. You have to turn to Manual Dail-Mode, set the shutter speed pass 30sec to go into bulb mode.

35mm is nice combo...

My reason for merge is there is a more wiser senior in A thread, and they can give a lot better advise. And most A user have E mount too, and I always see many un-answered e mount newbie question or being answered back with misleading info. You will be surprise many a mount user knows the answers many funny issues with the E mount system. tongue.gif

I almost sell my SELP1650 kit lens, but later found it to be quite good for travel and event use,
especially when there is no time to change lens.

Here are some of my shots taken with SELP1650 for your reference.

So it looks like once we get 145 YES or NO votes, or 192 votes (including I DON'T CARE votes), we could consider voting closed.

Also, I tried to look for a Canon EOS M (mirrorless) and Nikon 1 (mirrorless) thread but could not find it, sadly. sad.gif However, there are 3 pages of search results within the Canon EOS Family thread for "EOS M". Historically there were many Nikon threads for different classes of cameras, but that merged all into one thread.

just now went to sony center tried the A6000, overall was not bad, i just dont like the kit lens. should i upgrade to 35mm? hmmm

btw, can A6000 shoot it bulb?
*
I have the same feeling as yours. Instead in the sony center I went they had SEL16-70 lens on A6000, much better. And I asked one brochure of A6000 from sales, I notice the picture on the brochure is A6000 with SEL16-70 lens. That should be the right kit' bundled.

Hey guys. Hope you don't mind but I would love to ask a question. Hopefully you can give some advice.

I'm currently using the A7R with the 55mm Zeiss lens. I'm looking for a flash, particularly the HVL-F43M. Any idea where I can get one other than from Sony Center?

Hi, can add me in the nex5n user list? Bought display set few month back. Still lots to learn.

Anyway, i notice that few of my shots (3/10 maybe) that the lens sometimes focus on the background instead of the subject, especially when the subject is near.

Is it something wrong or i just need to refocus using DMF mood?

try this link http://www.gstrapinuse.com/index.php?main_...dex&cPath=89_34

they are fair price.. I had bought 2 tripod from them.. and the service is fast too.

From my experience, do consider getting slightly better ones than the low range (like what I did initially - that is why i ended up with 2)..

the extra weight difference is not really that significant. It will not add that much more relative to carrying a 3 kg lens. but the difference in performance is quite noticeable. Unfortunately you will not notice it until you get the wrong one out in the filed!!! (too late then) More so when you load the tripod with long lens. IF you are just shooting family photo then not much issue. But if you intend to double it for macro and long lens then best to get the better ones. I wanted the Q666 and ended up with Q777 no stock but no regret since they offer me the same price, only slightly shorter..

these are my experience and still learning, but others will differ. Happy hunting.

Ntg to do with DMF
Its most likely to do with the lens minimum focus distance MFD. It means that you're focusing on something too near for the lens to focus on. Remedy is for you to take a step back.

2ndly, be aware of where your focusing points are placed (those blinking green boxes). If set to auto, you need to half press the shutter button to it focuses on your subject. If you're seeing it manually, the adjust the point to over your subject and half press to confirm focus.

can Lazada be trusted?

the lenses some even got 80% off...... wao....

http://www.lazada.com.my/shop-lenses/sony/
*
80% normally is not true as the seller just pump up the price and give heavy discount to attract ppl.
i can see the actual discount is 5%-50% from local RRP.
Beware of those marked with "Import" are parallel imported and no warranty by Sony Malaysia.

I will only buy from them if the price is really way below anyone selling in the market, ie >50% off RRP, or cheaper than 2nd hand value.
I will just treat it as 2nd hand unit which out of warranty.

Just got my a6k last Friday and already full'ed my 8Gb with my daughter portrait photos XD

tonight going to bring to park and test shot evening low light and night no light (feed mosquito).

Anyway, i will be going to HK coming month, and i never actually bring camera out for a trip (except my phone). So, i dont have a dedicated bags for it.

Do you guys get any bag just to carry camera and others, for e.g. laptop/ipad or windbreaker (assume to a chilling places) or a light jacket?

I have 2 bags in mind, Crimpler 5Millhome or Crumpler KASHGAR OUTPOST... Are those OK?

do any bags suggestion?

Different folks and different shooting theme/purpose might have different requirement for bags (as well as gears), go test them would be better :v

Me using Courser messenger bag though.

I was close to your situation and chose the 1018 in the end. Cost was not the issue in the consideration. I just wanted something will meet my needs.

Reasons

1. I had the pancake 16 with all the UW and FE adapters.. Ended up with UW on the lens all the time.. What I find annoying is when I need to switch it is a pain.. So a zoom seem logical. you may face that problem except you do not have any adapters to add. ie you just need to preposition.

2. I opted out of CZ 12 because I do not wan to be caught in the same situation as above can be frustrating sometimes.

3. Having seen some of the image quality of 1018 it may not be as good as CZ12 (some say it is marginal difference only... subjective so best I not comment) but I can live with it because I do not make a living out of photography.. I COULD consider the CZ again had that extra sharpness been a customer ie paid requirement.. I choose to live without it.

4. at 10mm its horizon is still ALMOST straight.. so it will be fair game to me..

5. I like to use the 12 - 16 mm range for close up street shoot..

Other non related issue to the above, is use of Filters. It sort of make me narrow down to this 2 lens. I cannot be ever too careful not to scuff my exposed glass .. esp when I need to do a fast lens change..

I an very happy with the 1018..

These are my choice and decision not necessary yours.

only when lighting is really poor but at that poor lighting .. condition is also quite poor for anything else.. it is just 1 stop down from f2.8 (ie wrt to my 16mm) and I will not cry over it. Most of our newer camera works great at higher ISO so it kind of compensate back. I know I have taken with A6000,ISO 3200 and get good sharp pix with my anciet 50mm CZ Sonnar. .

I can only justify a CZ under circumstance- if I get paid for my photo.. Else for pure good fun.. I will forsake and enjoy a wider. variable lens facility vs that little more sharpness at the edge when wide open. More so since I enjoy taking travel pix where often distance are tight and wide coverage is needed.

How does that affect lighting? Unless you're talking about strobes where aperture controls the flash output power.

Or are you talking about exposure? If so, then f/2.8 enables you to get 1 stop of more light which might mean you can get shallower DOF and faster shutter speed compared to f/4

it is only one stop difference. As for DOF - this is a wide to ultra wide. Achieving a shallow DOF is not likely your priority and it is not an attribute of lens in this category. What is important is when shot wide open. what is the level of sharpness at the edge 2 edge. That is where all your money goes (eg Nikkor 6mm f2.8 fish eye @ US$100k or even the 16mm f/8 Zeiss Hologon @ RM$5K ). for the 1018 I am happy with what it can deliver for that amount of money I have spent.. That is why I mention CZ is claim to be slightly better but I loose a lot of the other benefits. If shooting commercial then different story.. some customers may not accept. You can normally compensate to a certain level by sharpening.

Down at low light. I do not have issues either. Fast moving object may be just 1 stop out but if you are shooting at that critical line, it is likely 1 stop is not going to be much of any difference (one either lens) esp when you are using such wide angel.. This is not supertele or high resolution macro where even your hand touching the release button can cause enough vibration on the system to mess up a pix (static objects) if the shutter speed is slow eg 1/100 on a 400mm lens on a steady tripod. Most of the time wide and ultra wide will tolerate slower ... much slower shutter speed eg 1/15 sec and you can still get off with it on static objects.

That's common understanding of Direct Flash make the photo dull!!!
But when use it right like fill flash, off camera flash, etc... it really make all the different!!

I am a new a6000 user. I am also a nikon user. I acquired the a6000 mainly for travel. I just want to raise a question to where I can buy Metabones G in Penang so I can mount some of my nikkor lenses. Thanks in advance.

Confused, fill flash is direct flash ma?.... Or typo?

Han18: Direct flash is not dull/ulgy/bad if we know how to balance it(manually) with ambient.. for eg: Nex pop up slowsync flash mode helps a lot for indoor. The slower shutter speed will let the ambient creep in/overwrite the white flash on the skin.

Sometimes is not the flash intensity but the color of flash vs ambient color temp that cause the photo look harsh.
White white face vs yellow yellow background. So it felt like the flash too strong coz too white. Read up 'flash color gel' first...

My flash setup is with 1/2 cto gel fulltime. Day or night or indoor, the 1/2 cto give a nice tone to skin like a golden reflector.

how many votes do we need to end this pool?  sweat.gif

The question has come up before in earlier versions of the NEX thread - none of the Alpha users started a separate NEX thread and were merrily discussing it within the Alpha thread way before, as it was called a Sony Alpha NEX, just that people forget and call it Sony NEX mistakenly - note the Alpha logo on every NEX released.

I reproposed the idea on Page 1 and the exact answer to your question is on Page 2:

So it looks like once we get 145 YES or NO votes, or 192 votes (including I DON'T CARE votes), we could consider voting closed.

It is a proposal, though, and I'm not the thread starter, and I'm not a moderator, so I can't say it's fair I define the parameters for voting. The votes may just serve to have numerical proof that people want/don't want to merge. (As opposed to "I think a lot of people want/don't want...")

Hi, I was told there is a Sony Digital Cameras Roadshow @ Low Yat Plaza this week. Anyone went? Got good price for Sony Camera? e.g. A6000?

Thanks.

mmmmm.... okay.... it seem we have 17Yay and 2 Nay with 4huh? instead of letting this thread goes 50 page before we get our 190votes out of 288 ppl

here my idea.... i will Close this thread, moving everyone to The Sony Alpha Thread V60, The Orange Legion (Photography)
(maybe i will try talk to albnok to change the name to Sony Imaging World, which can include of CyberShot Compacts, Video Camera? and Action Cam)

here the deal, this thread is not complete dead, this move will be temporary trail if everyone will be happy with the merge over at The Sony Alpha Thread V60, The Orange Legion (Photography). Those who think E/FE Mount should be independent from A mount, Please PM me. if i get minimun of 25 people PM against the merging. i will reopen this E/FE mount thread. Good enough? okay shoo shoo now, go play nice over at The Sony Alpha Thread V60, The Orange Legion (Photography)
