Why can't they have the backlit softkeys to behave like Samsung's or HTC's where they turn off the backlight due to inactivity of the softkeys, not link it with the screen inactivity, that way you can type messages or scroll through long articles without the backlight on. This will definitely improve the battery life by lots. I am a heavy texter and in order not to have the softkeys backlight on i had to turn off the backlight completely in the settings.

Do like what I do, just completely off the backlight. After all, only 3 buttons -.-"

I turned them off completely too, but not used to the placement yet. I have few phones, so i get confused too. Htc's back key is on the left, mi3's on the right. Well, you get the point.

After few days with the latest dev Rom 4.8.1, i reverted back to 4.7.25 after I've encountered few things.

1.The phone gets very warm in normal operations, 2.instagram freezes for a few seconds if u cancel photo taking.
3. Slightly faster battery drain (seems like common issue among 4.4.4?)

hi, do ur stock file explorer support samba connection in 4.8.1 or 4.7.25?
*
Not sure on this though. I don't use file transfer.

Anyone has tested v22 already??
*
Can I just download it and install from dev ROM? Or do I need to revert back to stable ROM first?

How is it?

From PMs i received in MIUI forums regarding this, i suggest revert back to V14 then only flash to V22

I'm not sure how Mi3 actually writes over but somehow certain files or sections of previous files can cause errors.

Hmm.. but they don't have fastboot Rom for v14.

Updated. So far so good. Yet to explore tomorrow biggrin.gif

What's the Android version on the update? 4.4.4?

I've came across many users with different handsets like the Nexus 5 or Moto G having problem with battery drain for KitKat 4.4.4, which is more like a Android KitKat flaw. You guys might want to take this into consideration.

Settled at Dev ROM 4.7.25 right now. 4.4.3, ain't too bad.

It's still KitKat 4.4.2. I noticed the battery life has improved, but it's still too early too conclude. I'll keep monitoring it.
*
Nice. Please monitor also the screen also whether theres abnormal warmth under normal operation? My mi3 screen got very warm eventhough normal instagram browsing only on wifi.

QUOTE(ralph_d @ Aug 5 2014, 09:43 AM)
updated to 4.8.1, running 4.4.4 kit kat

i can watch youtube on wifi
only encounter problem on wifi with slow internet connection, it will force close.
*
I see, but when you google 4.4.4 battery drain issue, a lot results will come out, that's why i'm worried. The 4.8.1 just had too many issues. The Instagram wouldnt even run properly, which is an important app to me. Though i find the interface is a tad bit snappier. I can't wait for the release of Android L.

i have 0 issue with instagram as of today
posted photos, viewed lots of photos n videos, and lots of like and comments..
*
Can you try clicking the camera button and then click cancel or back without uploading a picture to see if there's freezing? Mine froze for few seconds before returning to the home tab. Which is kinda annoying!

QUOTE(ghyeng @ Aug 5 2014, 10:14 AM)
Try disabling the high quality image processing in settings for Instagram.

I don't think we'll get Android L that soon tho. Need to wait official release - optimization - alpha test beta test etc. CyanogenMod of course will get it much sooner, but MIUI is the most heavily customized rom out there and a lot of changes to be made for Material Design and ART. Won't be surprised if they launch Android L as MIUI 7 lolol.
*
Haha ok but I've saw the android L demo which is pretty amazing.

ooooo i c
yea, hang a while
i can cope with that brows.gif

as for android version, if AOSP is available, chances are miui dev rom will get it too
*
Well I can't live with that. I've learnt to give and take for a few bugs n glitches on Android. But the most deciding part is the battery life drop and screen getting really warm under normal usage, back to 4.7.25 and non of that happened.

With softkey button lights off and gps off the phone seem liked it could go for days on light usage. So i'm happy with dev R ROM 4.7.25 at the moment.

For Maxis user, is there any improvement on V22? My friend doesn't want to upgrade afraid of Maxis drop call issue.
*
Waiting for more inputs. By the way, from v18 on, the stable ROMs are not localized already right? Like we used to have local popular links in the browser e.g Maybank2u etc.

Guys im just wondering does the wipe all data does harm to the flash disk itself. I have a bad habit, whenever i face a small bug problem, my hands very gatal to full wipe the phone and reset everything.

It does nothing to the flash count right? If xiaomi has any.

using dev rom....found that there's some issue with bluetooh, it will sometimes come with with error message and need to close down...and for google chrome, sometimes it mysteriously close down as well without pressing anything...and I noticed dev rom take up more memory too
*
Which version? 4.8.1?

QUOTE(Zenobia @ Aug 5 2014, 10:43 PM)
it is only me having such issue? i uninstalled playbook, playgames, play news, hangouts.. but it reinstalled itself back after i reboot phone. no other way round to make it permanent? sad.gif

it doesnt look good.. v14 battery i set balance get 36k+ antutu, however v22, i set default and get less than 25k antutu.. set to high then get around 35k+ sad.gif
*
It didnt bother me as it simply means they got settings configuration right on. I got 35k on balance and 36k on performance in v14. Which means the balance mode and performance mode has no significant difference. The balance mode should've tuned down the phone a little bit in order to make room for more juice without compromising too much performance. If they both run the same performance, battery life won't have much diff right? Just set to performance mode and let the force be with you.

Okay on dev rom I don't face this issue lol. V22 Stable rom has this issue. Just to clarify it to everyone.
Anyone who uses wifi in thr office which requires you to sign in with a username and password thru explorer causing the phone to reboot :S. But on dev rom latest version it is not thr.
cheers.
*
I guess for some people the dev ROM is the stable ROM. rclxms.gif

I'm on dev ROM 4.7.25 and its the most stable of MIUI roms I've tried. Had instagram freeze issue with the 4.8.1

Barely got 36k on antutu in high performance mode. 25k in balanced mode. Battery life is good, calls are clear. Not bad. You guys can give it a shot if you want to.

converting from dev to malaysia rom is pain in the as* since i am not pretty sure what im doing. after update the phone seems like lost its mobile network driver so my simcard is useless lol. thank god got two partition. able to restore using the other partition. so my mi3 cheated death this time? huhu. so those planning to go dev rom, kindly really2 consider liao
*
Well, if you don't know what you're doing, you shouldn't fiddle with the ROMs in the first place. Dev ROM is meant for those people wanting to try the latest and greatest features that MIUI has to offer. If you looking for something that you can use daily and worry not much about it stay with v14. It seems the Jelly Bean build has less issues.

after update to V22, i cant used instagram.. when i try to upload or snap a new image, all image become black..

This is a common issue. Go to Instagram, uncheck High Image Processing.

yerp. reason last time its the only option to get 4.4, as the transition from stable to dev is easy i thought it will be the same when going back. and i am wrong. haha
*
Haha at least you've learnt something, although in the hard way. Good effort nonetheless.

If we flash this, we will lost the OTA functionalities later? So after this everytime kena download and flash manually?  blush.gif
*
No. You WILL NOT lose the OTA functionality.

QUOTE(Max2006 @ Aug 8 2014, 12:04 PM)
After reading a few reviews, finally flashed to V22 stable rom.

So far so good. Stock camera's focus is much better compared to V14. Battery usage is slightly better. And the phone doesn't get heat easily like it used to.

Only 1 problem. It seems that when I am playing the music using the stock music app, the music would have a small glitch whenever I go to the setting and browsing through the song list. It didn't happen in V14.
*
In Android, you'll learn to compromise. You gain some, you lose some. In general, if the ROM doesn't give you too much problems for your daily activities, it's already considered a good ROM. I learnt this the hard way, trying every possible ROM out there, every ROM will give you problems. It's down to whether it's a biggie one or small one that you live with.

I have no problems at all opening links. Maybe you can check your permissions in the security app.
