can we use flat/apartment staircases, climb 18th floor, and repeat 4 times a day, to substitute for leg press, leg lunges, and calve raises?
i think i want to save cost from going to gym on leg day because i can do this at my flat home.

QUOTE(661188 @ Jul 17 2014, 12:53 PM) Those listed are weight training. Climbing staircase is similar with Cross Trainer which is cardio and serve different purpose. can elaborate? why we must use weight? climbing exercise also stimulate growth and can tear the muscle tissues also, right?

QUOTE(shrimp.kebab @ Jul 17 2014, 02:13 PM) for me is strength. toned look is a bonus though. Your body adapt and changes. Doing cardio make you more efficient at using oxygen, in short stamina. Weight training best for growth cause every time you lift and got stronger, you are telling your body you need bigger muscle for that extra weight. Both can stimulate muscle but different type of fibers. Try google Muscle Fibers and types.

Well you will still get a significant increase in strength with calisthenics alone, so go ahead whatever you are going to do with your staircase.

QUOTE(shrimp.kebab @ Jul 20 2014, 11:28 PM) calisthenics people dont need weights. but still have very toned body. Upper body muscle are much smaller than the legs and glutes muscle. It also the reason why most people have lesser bench press numbers compared to their deadlift and squat. And do check what kind of exercises that those calisthenics practitioner done to achieve their body. Muscle up is the MOST basic exercise for them and what can you do by climbing stairs? One legged hop?

QUOTE(shrimp.kebab @ Jul 20 2014, 11:28 PM) calisthenics people dont need weights. but still have very toned body. Dude, it all depends on your goal. If you want to build strength. Just work on your weakness. Weak bicep? Fap all day long. Remember to switch side. If you want build muscle. Pick up the weight, eat, sleep, repeat and add weight. Easy as that. If you want to use body weight exercise (calisthenics) to build muscle and toned body. It's possible too but need a lot of time than hitting the gym. You gotta spend few months to master all the basics so you can modify your workout to increase resistance for growth.
