consultant is some1 that is expert in a particular field, as a consultant you need years of experience(mostly >10 years). I never heard of something call IT consultant, cause it is too ... broad. They are like ERP, SAP consultant(even sometimes more specialized like consultant that only know stock or account or manufacturing).

that is pre-sale consultant and post-sale consultant.
Normally pre-sale consultant is some how like a sales person. Post-sale consultant is more toward working on technical in detail person.

But there is a joke among those consultant, they claim that consultant is used to con you, insult you then tant(turn) away laugh.gif

nowadays job position for consultant over rated. Most hire less than 1-3 years ppl as consultant....and dunno much abt the work....

to me to be a consultant you need to be an expert in ur field of consultancy and probably take 8-10 years to achieve that not 1 year working experience...

so consultant now is just title like some manager post....nice title...know nothing but good at CON.... tongue.gif

no offence...but i feel Malaysia no good consultant...and I particular dislike those from Big 5 ..... all glamour but know nuts.....

even soem SAP consultant...just know thier area but not how to apply to client business....just lucky that SAP limited ppl so can ask high amount and not because then can add value to thier client business....

from my encounters.....overseas consultant are usaully better but avoid Aussie and India consultants.....India more hardworking then Msian consultant but knowledge wise tak boleh harap!...Aussie just plain lazy

well, for almost every projects, esp big ones,
and involving various parties,
esp the government,
a third party consultancy service is a must.

Most of their job is just to stamp and verify watever requirements set by certain parties on other parties

Im in some project now
the government are paying them handsome salaries.
we r paying them even "handsomer" er...er.... "salaries"

You can say they're lazy, which is perhaps true - they seldom work beyond what is required. But when you look at their economy, the strength of their companies and the work ethic during working hours, you'll realise that sometimes you don't have to work hard to achieve things. You just have to work smart. And that is where Malaysians lose.

Curious you took exception to the Aussie example but let the Indian one slide. Same argument (look at the "silicon valley" of India: Hydarabad for example) can be applied equally methinks.

Equally disagreeable in your opinion that Malaysians are "unable to work smart".

Come on. Enough with these generalizations. They are demeaning at best and racist at worst.

Pre-sales consulatant and post-sales consulatant required technical knowledge and a specific customer groups in which the requirement comes from customers and they go to the consultant for idea and advice.

Sales person is like carrying a bag walking around in Kopitiam and street asking people to buy their products.

That is because I am familiar with the Aussie culture, but unfamiliar with the Indian culture, myself not having been/studied at India. As such, I won't comment on something I don't know much about.

Malaysians, in general, are not unable to work smart, but prefer to work hard. Of course, its a generalisation and there are exceptions, as always. But I believe this stems from our education system which promotes memorising and culture of giving 'tips' and 'hints' and the importance placed on knowing answers, not understanding concepts.

i dont mean to de mean or be racist on any race or culture but based on my dealings with consultant from both country in MALAYSIA that was the result.

We pay handsome dollars but get ... crap....maybe the countries export the lousy ones and the good ones stay and build up the nation hence Australia and Hydrebad

but when they come over, they then to take u for a ride....

i will amend my post if its demeaning to say overseas consultant especially from india and aussie is not up to standard when providing services for Malaysian companies....

in addition there are some good Malaysian consultant...very rare but the employment market now advertise or mis use the term consultant....they are looking for fresh grads as consultants.....if they are in experience what are they providing thier clients? (CON lar tongue.gif )...they shld called this post specialist and when they gain enuff experience then call them Consultant....

My company pay abt rm25k a mth per consultant from India, Aussie and Big 5 Malaysia consultants and the results is delay after delay or round the bushes solutions....so am disappointed...in the end client solve it them selves but still pay the CON millions...(public money....so i work for ??? heheheh ...controvesial company)

but employers seem to think they are so good yet own Msian staff are useless...what a joke!
