i check already...end of jan shouldnt have any snow ...just the weather is cold from 4-10 °C
and i am surprise JR pass is sooo expensive? more expensive then my airticket shocking.gif
*
Transportation in Japan ain't cheap. JR Pass can save you a lot of money if you will be using the public transport a lot, especially the shinkansen.

QUOTE(acks2257 @ Oct 1 2014, 07:45 PM)
hi all..

im having a trip to Japan for 10 days this month end, arriving in Osaka for the first 5 days and will be at tokyo the last week.

I have to travel from osaka to tokyo via SHINKANSEN but its a bit pricey and im confused about the 7 days JR pass

buying JR pass 7 days - for 2 ppl is around 58k yen (unlimited travel for 7 days in Osaka n Tokyo?)

if travel via SHINKANSEN one way from osaka to tokyo - for 2 ppl is around 27k yen

if travel via peach air one way from osaka to tokyo - for 2 ppl is around 14k yen

can any sifus care to elaborate?
*
You flying into Osaka and flying out from Tokyo, correct?

Some people find it a must to experience the shinkansen. If you don't have that need, then just find the cheapest way from Osaka to Tokyo and forget about shinkansen (JR Pass). JR Pass is only useful if you are taking the shinkansen and JR lines a lot.

The REAL one mean u need to take the test with left and right side drive, once you get it
you can go overseas and driving anytime you want

while this only just a permit you can use at some period of time only
*
Got do test with left and right side meh? I just ask AAM to apply for me, pay them and get my IDL last time. Validity period is 1 year. How long is the validity period if do the test? And where can I do this test?

So confirm need IDL issue by JPJ to drive in Japan right? Even with the new Malaysian driving license, still need IDL ah?

QUOTE(liewchengyeh @ Oct 7 2014, 07:51 AM)
i'm a travel NOOB...
(never been to oversea.... been to indonesia, but i don't think that count as oversea)

anyway, any good place to recommend for a non-japanese (only know some basic vocab, less then 50 words) speaker...

do you guys think,
-it's better to bring a japanese speaker
OR
-can we just got by with a pocket translator(i heard there's a few book shop in the airport selling those, and quite cheap) or google translate (need a working internet plan in japan, not always reliable)
*
You'll be fine. Just learn a few Japanese phrases, numbers, and maybe food. Get a few Japanese phrases apps and you are good to go.

I hardly know any Japanese, pick up a few words here and there from watching anime last time. Now attending some basic Japanese classes to learn how to read a bit bit. Survive 2 trips to Japan and planning another few more in the future.

Actually there are a few Sukiyas in Malaysia. I know there's one in Kota Damansara.
*
There is one in Taipan also.

The other suki-ya is steamboat buffet, got branch in pavillion, paradigm mall and recently saw it open up in klang parade.

Other than Sukiya in Japan, I frequent Yoshinoya too. laugh.gif
When I was flying Cebu Pacific recently, they were serving Yoshinoya rice bowl also.

No it's not worth it..... even more so with a family. Just, don't. You have to order ONE drink for every person on the table, which makes it more ridiculous. My friend had a culture shock and almost cried inside which forced us to leave (good for us also can save the money and eat nice sushi).
*
Why your friend almost cried? sweat.gif

I'm trying to decide whether to go salt factory on Miyagi or explore southern Naha. Have to give up either one, any suggestions?

If not enough time. You can get Miyakojima sea salt at Naha City. You can get all Okinawa island stuff all in Naha City.

Most people not enough time or budget explore all. If time & budget allow, Ishigaki Island are top choice. Then Miyakojima as second.
*
Hm, okay. Then I guess will skip salt factory and do south of Naha. Yea, this trip only able to cover parts of the main island as only staying in Naha. Will take note of Miyakojima and Ishigaki island. Will definitely go back there in the future for Yonaguni island, wanna check out the underwater ruins. tongue.gif
