Manchester United have reportedly lodged a bid for Wolfsburg defender Ricardo Rodriguez.

The 21-year-old, who is widely regarded as one of the best young left-backs in European football, impressed for Switzerland at this summer's World Cup.

A number of clubs have been credited with an interest in the last couple of weeks, but according to Wolfsburger Allgemeine, United have made a firm offer.

United have already signed Luke Shaw from Southampton this summer, but it is understood that fellow left-back Patrice Evra – despite recently signing a new one-year deal – could depart.

Louis van Gaal has wasted no time getting Manchester United‘s squad back into shape by ordering the players to do a double training session on only their second day back at Carrington.

That attitude from Van Gaal is something United fans all want to see from the players this year because there were too many passengers last season, players who weren’t giving enough to the team.
