A little bit about me..

I'm 18 years old, currently on holiday from a Foundation in Business course
I've taken a liking towards photography since Form 1
But then, I don't have a very good camera to take up photography seriously
Since then, I've been the family photographer using our old Pentax 3.2 megapixel Optio33L
they have seen how I take pictures and they think I really am good at taking photos

So now, they agreed to get me a better camera so I could go into some serious photo shooting.
The question is, what camera should I buy ?

The only DSLR that I see myself buying with my dad's money is the cheapest entry level DSLR from Nikon or Canon
At ~RM3k with its kits lens, I think thats the most my dad can fork out..
Is it good for me to buy a RM3k DSLR or should I spend the money to get a expensive PROsumer Digicam instaed ?

I think I could use a DSLR, but I'd like to know what all the sifu here thinks ?
A entry level DSLR or a expensive PROsumer ?
If a DSLR, Canon's or Nikon's in terms of user friendliness and functions (ie:image stabilising, etc) ? Or any other brands which offer cheaper prices (better for my dad)
If a prosumer, which model ?

Spooky only got the feel~ rclxm9.gif

About your question, just like what you said there, get a entry level cam from Nikon/Canon, or maybe consider about Olympus or Sony as well. Slowly learn from shooting with DSLR, then only invest more on the lenses and flash. I'm sure this thread will be your first sharing place when you get your shooting gears. smile.gif

so you think i should get a entry DSLR la
cuz some other ppl says that some expensive digicam has the same if not more function than a cheap DSLR
anyway, thx man.. now to settle my father and go buy that DSLR xD

hmm, from the Nikon website
the D50 package is at RM3,118 , with 18-55mm lens and a D50 knapsack
for the moment i cant seem to access the canon's website so i don't know abt the price
might survery the shops later this week
im sure prices out there would be cheaper
or should i try to get the D70s, couple of hundred bucks more

thx guys..

Next Update : My mom's fruits whistling.gif as in real fruits planted in the garden.. lolz.. biggrin.gif

since photography is ur hobby and u think u r able to handle a DSLR, u better go to DSLR. if u getting a Prosumer cam, sooner or later it will not satisfy ur needs.

mayb u can try get a second hand DSLR as ur start learning equiment.
just a suggestion only... icon_rolleyes.gif

i dont c anything special bout the swimming pools but then again thats the limit of a handphone..

fork out the couple of hundred more for the d70s in my opinion. another cheaper optiion is the k100d by pentax. less than 3000 for the kit.

ya, the swimming pool's nothing, jz some random shot..
sry abt it >.<

anyway..
my mom gave my the green light
lets just say we can ignore the price, only for entry level DSLRs tho..
which one's better for hobbyist/noobs and better quality..

Canon EOS 350D
Nikon D70s
Pentax K100D

Any reason why I would get the D50 if im going Canon ?

Again, sorry abt the low quality photos
will get some nicer ones soon..

Ya, go do research first hv the idea, then go test the camera, some shopkeeper dunno bout the camera 1 *sien*

I like editing things too, but I don't have the eye for what is natural (ie, the colour tones, levels, contrast and stuff)

My avatar is one of my works..
Didnt think you could buy any teddy bears with a sad face tongue.gif

Thanks for all your advice, hopefully I'll get my camera before we go to our Yunnan trip later in the month

Last question,
so basically between Nikon and Canon, the difference of the quality of pictures taken and the built is almost neglectible ?
the important thing is the feel I have for the DSLR , am I right ?

Aaaannyywaay..
I got myself a Nikon D70s
The price I paid is RM3850 using credit card
The package includes, the whole kit (camera body, kit lens 18-70mm, accessories), Hoya UV filter, Nikon vest, Nikon bag, tripod, 1 gig Kingston CF card and an AF 70-300mm lens

I bought it from a Fotokem shop
Which I hope I was not sold a stolen/2nd hand/water DSLR
Waddya think ?
Do I really need the filter ?

So you got yourself a D70s now?? Hahah, should've get D80. tongue.gif Anyway, welcome to the world of DSLR. Prepare to press more shutters than ever and hold your temptation to buy more and more lenses... laugh.gif

I thougth it was panning shot as well, you said it's PnS eh?? Hahah... Anyway, looks like D70s' WB failed again eh? Or you applied some kinda filter on it?? sweat.gif

the shopkeeper also say D80
but he told my mom the price would be like double the D70s, so.. you know.. lol
but i heard its not that much eh, below RM5k for the body, thats what in-Tech says..

ya, its PnS, we were in the car and at abt 50-60 km/h and i just click click click
WB arh.. i just used the Auto mode to shoot
cuz i dunno how to set anything at that time, and certainly don't know how to adjust the WB
oh, i had a UV filter on

but now i know better..
at least i noe how to change the ISO and WB after reading the manual tongue.gif

There's no way D80's gonna cost more than D200. icon_rolleyes.gif

Try to learn about the camera. It's a camera with potential if you can fully utilise its features and mount some IF ED VR lens on it, get some good shots! biggrin.gif

though, we ARE above the clouds, so no clouds were blocking the sun
I reckon the sun up there wasn't so good on my skin sad.gif

Btw, I haven't yet got one cleaning kit for the DSLR
What should I get ?
What do I ask for in a shop ?
How much would everything be ?

for that, I used Shutter-Priority Auto or was it manual, any one is fine
set it for a 3 second exposure, or longer or shorter depending
after i release the shutter, zoom in, or zoom out
will have different effects
speed of the zoom after releasing the shutter will come out differently too, i think

26 and 27 ah
I forgot the settings, but
the lens was a cheap 80mm-300mm zoom lens
Mode was shutter-priority too, set it to a fast shutter speed as they were dancing and moving quite fast
ISO on auto

hope that answer your question >.<

i also noob leh..
got alot to learn from all the sifus here

did you use a polarizer for pic 24?
and i think you should try the slow shutter zoom thingy on a pedestrian bridge at night with lots of cars, it produce magnificent photos.

Hi guys, been a long time since I last posted here
Just didn't have the time to get distracted from college

However, PC Fair is a event that I'd never miss
And I travelled down with my friends

While everyone is distracted by the PC Fair, there was a fashion show kinda thiny promoting SK-II
I was just at the right place at the right time

It was my first taste of shooting something like this
And it certainly wasn't easy

Things came out blur

Lest not talk about my composition yet
I need techniques to make my shots come out crisp and clear for now
Any help ?

When I got the right settings, they have finished the show sleep.gif

Guess all I need is experience

Yeah i think he meant by the spot that you wanna focus at, and the readings. Try experimenting and ake a reading on any part of the dogs body and shoot, the head, the eyes, legs, just try, eventually there's one that'll prove to be the best. This is what i think la, hehe
