Hi, I think to work on your MUET, you need to reinforce your Grammar, either by conscientiously checking your sentences while you type, or getting a good book. You can use all the uncommon words in the world, but if you show gaps in basic Grammar, you might get into trouble with the examiners.

By the way, all the best for your upcoming exams!
*
Thanks maximR for your advice. And yes, even my MUET teacher often complains that most of the ''low-frequency'' words that I insert in my essays were all out of place, AND some are redundant too.

Thanks once again, I'm gonna need all the luck that I can get in the world.

So how was the Maths T paper today? I think I did better than my term 1 paper this time..

I only couldn't solve 5 and 6(vectors).. the rest were mostly fine..

Hello Just Visiting By, I have a question for you.

In our STPM modular system, do we still learn 'Circles' in chapter 5(Analytic Geometry) in the first term? It's because as far as I know, the subtopic 'Circles' was excluded out of the syllabus since they revamped the whole Maths syllabus from the terminal system, no? But for this first term exams, we are required to sketch a circle in one of the 6 questions in Section A......

I sketched it nonetheless, but I don't know whether mine's correct or not....

For question 6(b), the one on point of intersection?

My answer was 4i + 4k.. I written it in the "bracket" form.. (4 0 4) vertically.

If I got this question right, then I would be really happy.. hmm.gif

Wait, isn't question 6 involves vector?

Anyway, I wasn't able to finish all the 7 questions under the allocated time, and not to mention that I made lots of blunders too. This is by far the most toughest paper that I did so far in my first term exams.

Damn, is it coincidence? Out of 34 students in my class, I'm the only one who picked question 8. The moment when I saw question 7 that involves trigonometry, I skipped that part and chose question 8.

And question 2 in Section A was a bummer to me. How did you solve it?

How's the exam for you, my friend?

Anyway, Maths T paper is really a killer paper to me. Most of the questions required us to do some thinking in the head and how we apply our knowledge to solve the questions at hands. And by the time I was halfway solving all of the 7 questions, I only had 30 minutes left!! Now I really understand why one of my friends always tells me this:''You see, you write. You see, you do, don't think too long''. Seriously, 90 minutes for that paper is insufficient.

And thank god Polya's 4 Steps save my a*s back there in question 3,or I'll lost 6 marks just like that!

Thanks for showing me the workings. My friend was able to get the answer, albeit with a different approach.

After the exam is all over, I'm going to redo this whole Maths T paper and try to find a way to pinpoint my other mistakes.

I just realized that I could have made a mistake for this question also.. cry.gif

Instead of finding term 1 and term 2 then obtaining the ratio, I divided the 2nd term in the equation by the 1st term in the equation to obtain the ratio..

But the ratio is still the same despite using two different methods.. perhaps it's because of coincidence hmm.gif

I might get penalised because of that even though my answer is correct.. sad.gif

To seniors who took STPM last year, want to ask something. Last year, the overall STPM results came out a few days after Semester 3 retake. So, for those who chose to repeat Semester 3, did MPM still release your results which does not include U3? Was there a physical result slip or anything? Thanks. smile.gif

Umm....after referring back to the syllabus, it does not state 'circle' as part of the requirement.

But I did learn circle, and all the reference books I referred to have 'circles' as part of the syllabus.

In fact, I think circle is the easiest to learn.

Besides that, I think circle is the very basic and it should be included.

Due to its ambiguity, I suggest you write an e-mail to inquire whether 'circle' is part of the syllabus.

For my batch, the first batch, we were tested on cartesian equations and chords and tangents, which that time were not included in the reference books because they weren't mentioned in the syllabus.

We wrote e-maisl to MPM because we were pretty outraged as it allocated 10 out of 60 marks, and no reference books had it so it wasn't possible that we have learnt it, and MPM replied by saying 'it was in the syllabus, but, I quote, 'Walau bagaimanapun, MPM akan mengambil tindakan yang sewajarnya dalam mesyuarat pemeriksaan skrip jawapan bagi memastikan perkara ini tidak merugikan calon.'

And, unlucky for STPM 2014 batch onwards, they are required to learn all these chords and tangents things we did not learn, haha. biggrin.gif

If you opt for Ulangan 3, there'll be result slip for you until the result for Ulangan 3 is released.

However, your overall result, based on the third term first attempt and Ulangan 1 and 2 (if you sit for it), will be published online.

I should remind you all to check whether your results in the final result slips are consistent with your individual term result. I have friends who actually got C for second term Chemistry, but in the result slip it states D.

Which means the overall result will be available online but there's no slip and we'll get our slip after the Ulangan 3 results. Right? Also, is it possible to apply to NTU/ NUS with no slip? Thank you! smile.gif

Yes, and yes.

NTU/NUS accepts the slip you printed online, but the most you'll get is a conditional offer.

You need to submit the actual result slip when you receive it, and you are only given a few days to do so if I'm not mistaken.

Oh I see. Thank you. If you don't mind, did you apply there as well? I recall you getting into UM and USM but don't remember you saying anything about S'pore.
