Currently, not much of STPM students or any other students out there will bother to take a look at this kind of thread. Its not exactly due them distaste it or their laziness, but its rather because of time constraint. I have many friends in my class that irregularly visit this thread, but it's already been weeks since the last time they dropped by in this forum.

Most of them now are revising the model papers and question sheets that has already been prepared by their teachers, and even without taking the trial sets that you've uploaded here into account, I don't they will finish cramming everything within 12 days or less.

I'm not from KL, and I only know a few decent tutor in Maths T. Unfortunately, they are from Penang and for that I'm sorry.

Anyway, why don't you try find your personal ''tutors'' online? icon_idea.gif According to the post that was in your other thread, most of the content of your pre-calculus subject could be easily accessed in the Internet. You can learn most of them online by yourself and best part is that you can do it anytime. I'd recommend Khan Academy for you, and PatrickJMT has a wide range of Maths videos too.

Can someone enlighten me?
What will happen if I answer more than the number of questions required? (eg: answering all 3 questions in physics section B when only 2 is required)
a) all 3 will be marked and the two highest is chosen
b) only the first two will be marked

Only the first 2 of your workings will be marked, while your third working won't be bothered at all.

Can you explicitly tell us what you want pertaining to PA paper? sweat.gif Is it the marking format?

If you're looking for PA trial papers in this thread, I believe you can find almost none, other than the ones I uploaded from my school's trials.

Hi yellowpika and Just Visiting By, and here I have a short question for both of you.

Is it necessary to put in some low-frequency words or any relatable quotes from famous people around the globe in order to increase our marks in language for the Writing component? I observed that a friend of mine always will score higher marks for his MUET essay practice due to him inserting words that are jargon as well as citing quotes from people like Sir Alex Ferguson, Beethoven, and to the likes of Charles Darwin in an essay. I also found out that whenever I write a piece of essay that does not exceed 2 pages, my marks will be below Band 4. So, is it wise to make our essay to be verbose if possible?

Thanks for your replies.

Hmm writing quotes into an essay would actually seems better. However if this is not your style of writing just don't bother with it. Writing should be enjoying, of course of relevant points as to answer the question. Write according to your own style, beautiful quotes won't impress the markers much if your points are irrelevant or youe elaboration is a mess. Anyway I always wrote essays less than 2 pages yet I got a high band 4 once. But usually I can still obtain low to mid band 4 for most of my practice.

By the way I scored a mid band 4 for my previous MUET XD achieving band 5 requires a strong english user with very persuasive (usually mature) points. It is not impossible but its not a simple task. I don't know when is your MUET but I wish you all the best in your upcoming MUET and STPM (if your MUET is not over yet XD)

It would be better if you can add in relevant quotes. Writing irrelevant quotes that seem impressive will backfire.

Write your essay the way you normally do. Follow your style, that's how certain writers become famous. They write the way they want, and they become famous.

For MUET, if you wanna aim a high band, show profound maturity and wide knowledge. Using bombastic words cannot impress the markers much. Show them you read much, and show them you have skills to argue.

This is where PA comes in handy. If MUET questions ask "What has Malaysia contributed to the globe?", write that Malaysia is a member of UN security council, and what conflicts has its resolved. Write points that show you read a lot, and you know a lot.

MUET is aimed to gauge a student's proficiency in English at university level. In university students are already expected to be able to write a scientific or an official report/document. So maturity and knowledge matter.

I never wrote an essay exceeding 2 pages. One and a half is enough, too long bores the marker.

Make it short and compact. That impresses better than long and annoying.

By the way it is still possible to get an overall of Band 5 without getting Band 5 for writing part. I got only 53/90 (I would like to say when I sat for the test, I did not know the format for data synthesis, and the long essay I got has no facts to write) and overall I still managed to secure 220/300. Ya, I was damn lucky!

Thanks for both of your inputs. Alright, I won't dwell too much about it. I'll just have to wait and see on how I perform in my MUET test tomorrow. And both of you are extremely proficient English users too, achieving a mid-Band 4 is not a walk in a park, let alone scrape through Band 5!

Just Visiting By, I believe you really deserved the prestigious Band 5 due to your skills, expertise and deep interest in English and not just merely because of luck. In fact, I reckon you should be given a higher band for that!
Oh, and if you don't mind, could please you tell me the score for each of your MUET component? sweat.gif

Wow that's truly flattering. I don't quite deserve the band 5 because I am not really that good in English, and I've seen people who function much better in the language fail to get Band 5.

My score:
Listening - 36/45
Speaking - 30/45 (not my first language, don't blame me xD)
Reading - 101/120
Writing - 53/90 (was and am not very good at arguments, as required in MUET)

Sheer luck gave me 220, the minimum mark for Band 5. biggrin.gif

Wow!! Your reading score is extremely high! No wonder it elevates your overall MUET score even though you admitted that you were weak when it comes to writing essay.

I've did many Reading practices, and none of them even eclipse 90 out of 120, let alone all of those reading practices that I did hitherto are not exactly on par with the ones I'm about to sit for tomorrow. I don't even know if I'll come out alive with a result of low Band 3...

You have plenty of time when you sit for the exam. Read carefully and patiently, and you'll come out fine.

I have a friend who fair moderate for all other components (I remember only 45/90 for writing), but because he scored 112/120 for Reading, he got 221/300, a Band 5.

Good luck for tomorrow. Do tell me the topic of the essay question!v biggrin.gif

Just Visiting By, the MUET essay question that we got is this:-

Playing computer games is beneficial for everyone. Discuss.

And by the way, we shouldn't just narrow down our points and elaborations based on teenagers or children only, right? We have to somehow relate the effects of playing PC games with other party too, no?

After sitting for MUET for the first time, I've got to say that the Listening component is the most easiest out of the 4, though I can't guarantee on how will I fare due to the rigid marking scheme I suppose. Some questions are downright straightforward, and some require us to do a little bit of thinking before jotting down our answers.

As for writing, I immediately dive in the Question 2 before doing Question 1(Report writing). Question 2 has higher marks allocated for it compared to Question 1, and so my main full attention was on Question 2. Stating out the main points was doable, but elaborating them maturely in accordance with inserting facts that could bolster my main point was no easy job. Also, for every single paragraph of the body in my essay, I realised that I tend to state out examples that could easily veer from the main topic, so one or two sentences are necessary to tie up my elaborations. There's not much to comment on Question 1, and I think it's badly done. I just kept on rehashing the exact same structure of sentences on the next paragraph from the previous ones. So, it might pull my overall essay marks down.

Reading is by far, the toughest component for our MUET test in my opinion. If I were to compare it with the ones that I have practiced so far, all of them will look like jokes. The passage itself is already brain draining, and yet the questions are even tricky and we were coerced to think carefully before we make a choice. Time was not sufficient for me as I failed to timed myself to do all those questions smoothly. Even for most of the questions, either 2 of their answers seemed to be correct, so it's a tough choice to make. It's more like choose the best answer, rather than choose the correct answer.

That's all from me regarding my thoughts on MUET. Overall, it was badly done and I don't even know if I'll ended up getting a Band 3. Anyway, I'll put that aside and focus my attention on STPM first term now, 5 days to go!

Wow. Interesting question. hahaha MUET tends to come out with questions not normally discussed, like the question you answered, July 2014 question...

Yes, you are right! You shouldn't limit yourself to only teenagers, and you are strongly encouraged to talk about computer games practice among game developers, businessmen, adults and retirees. Good thinking!

Don't worry much, I'm sure you can at least get a Band 4. This is experience, you have to trust me. smile.gif

Greetings,

I'm just wondering if anyone can confirm whether the data I obtained from my Chemistry experiment is correct. Experiment 5 which the topic is equilibrium and solubility. The data I got is temperature of the first appearance of precipitate increases as the volume of KA 2 increases. Is this correct? :/

Hi, I think to work on your MUET, you need to reinforce your Grammar, either by conscientiously checking your sentences while you type, or getting a good book. You can use all the uncommon words in the world, but if you show gaps in basic Grammar, you might get into trouble with the examiners.

By the way, all the best for your upcoming exams!
