RM300?
that's about the price you can get a new ducky zero and maybe a 2nd hand ducky zero shine.

maybe our own lyn kastam could be around that price? i don't know...but chances are it's gonna take awhile to come out from the lab.

USD$300?
that's about the price you can get for kastam
but full size kastam...they is rare breed, not like rabbits who multiplies a lot.

didn't really look much into fullsize kastam price.
but a quick search shows that on average, fullsize kastam pcb cost about USD$50-55.
that itself is almost RM200.
some cheap acrylic custom cut casing for fullsize is about ~RM100-RM120.

aww dang...we've broke your budget sad.gif
there's still 104-108 switches to get, which is about RM1.50 - RM2.00 per switch.
that's about RM150-200 there.

also there's stabilizers, which cost about RM30-45 if you get it from the recent cherry stabilizers groupbuy.
you will need diodes also, but that is cheap, i think should be about <RM30
tada~ that's the barebone of a working kastam keyboard.
there's still LEDs if you want some bling blings.
and with that you need resistors, maybe RM10 can get already.

last but not least, keycaps.
you can get cheap ones which is about RM80, probably those are second hand ones.
this can range up to near RM1000 depending on your layout and preference. you can check out some of the members here who are selling their keycaps.
another alternative way is to buy faulty cherry mx switch mech keyboard and salvage the keycaps.

the almost final last but also quite important, is the USB to miniUSB cable.
cheapo boring ones are RM5 which you can get from daiso or some computer shops.
or if you fancy nicer cables, you can look a little below  whistling.gif  tongue.gif
*
Lance will not be possible at below 300. Currently looking at about RM100 for acrylic only case (not recommended at all) , possibly RM 100 for switches and another RM50 for teensy, RM80 for taihao keycaps, then you need to buyscrews, wires and diodes and then spaghetti wire it yourself (estimate around RM100 parts and labour).

How can? CM Novatouch is launching soon. Lots of things to talk about!
It's not that I don't want to post here. This thread moved so fast that it is hard to catch up and have meaningful conversation. And by the time I check in at the end of the day, the conversation or topic have moved away already. It's kinda difficult to discuss in one thread.
*
I'm excited for novatouch, but I'm worries about CM cases. Might have another huge investment going that way when it arrives. See how first.

QUOTE(wildwestgoh @ Aug 18 2014, 10:19 AM)
eBay? That's very pricey and higher risk.
The usual brand like Filco, Ducky, some Vortex and maybe iKBC can be found locally. Gaming MKB is much common, can be found any where.
Now the Kastam brand is a bit hard to get by, usually GB (Group Buy) and possibly only limited item, or Import from China, Korea, etc. Oh did I say it's Kastom DIY? So you get to soldering, installing, and probably program it yourself... sweat.gif

Me? Nah, Filco, and another Poker 2 is enough for my life, excuses for not enough dough to play Kastam. cry.gif
*
Lance will be more affordable than Koreans, although I will be using kek lapis method to keep it cheap.

Hahahaha, guess i am not ready for "kastam" yet, thanks for the input guys.

Speaking of brands, do the Ducky keyboards (Cherry stabilisers) really feel mushier as compared to Filco and CM Storm Quickfire XT/Rapid/Trigger keyboards that are using Costar stabilisers?
*
Both will feel bad unless properly tuned. You'll need to properly lube the costar stabs (or you'll get weird pinging noise) and for cherry you MUST clip it properly.

QUOTE(faridr @ Aug 18 2014, 07:35 PM)
Or you can do the slow painful way, getting part little by little, start with pcb

hello guys. I'm back. Typing this on my new Ducky Shine 3! Thank you all for the recommendation. There's one question, why does all the big keys felt a bit stiff or kinda "mushy"?

Is laptop have enough power to make the light work?
My laptop is MSI GE620DX, have USB 3.0.
Anyone using Shine 3 on laptop?

#troll

You need to buy an external power source and hook it up to the keyboard...

OF COURSE IT WORKS...

Lightsaber v2 want? Fully assembled with MX Blue switch. Can also come with Raindrop R2 caps, and can change switch (turnaround time is 2.5 weeks though).

I believed you are the 1 with Topre 55g for 1st keyboard.

Why you don't like common MX switches?
Uncommon switches (not rare at all) like green, clears, you can get those keyboards from WASD / CODE.
Even ergo clear, vintage black also not consider as rare, just uncommon.
Some lacks of popularity.

If you looking for rare, maybe you can source from dadude, MX jailhouse Blue. 100% custom.
First time heard also from him, then only find online see the review.
*
Jailhouse blues feels like really good ergo clears. No need lube or stickers, you'll get similar response.

I'm using plain old MX Blues on the Lightsaver v2. The build isn't complete yet because I need to change my plans completely for this board.

I just have a read on jailhouse blue, do you use superglue to stick the stem together or some other method? Since already have blue stem removed and in storage, might as well go for it
*
I use 1mm o-rings. Best balance because it makes it really soft without making things permanent. Downside is that assembly takes a looooong time.

Currently re-thinking my whole setup for the lightsaber, because I am changing my plans from Jedi to Sith smile.gif

I'm not joining the granite GB because I'm saving up for something else.

Granite is nice, but.. Not sure I wanna get another DSA set. Currently waiting on the Pulse set and the Midnight SA set. Whichever goes live when I am rich...

biggrin.gif

As an aside, please buy this set if you're looking for a good DSA set. One of the best around.

did u buy the novelty kit from round 1?
*
Nope.

R1 novelties are much better, imo.

Currently contemplating whether I wanna splurge a little for the novelties and the ergodox kit, but very unlikely at the moment because I don't even look at my ergo when typing now.

Lightsaber still catchy because I switch on the bling bling lights when I use it so that I will look at it a little.

yes, i prefer r1 novelty...mainly because of that cat key >_<
*
Yeah... I wanted to get those novelties too, but sadly they are no longer available.

Anyway, I'm in a major dilemma for my Lightsaber.

Should I change the SMD Leds to Blue and make my Jedi lightsaber or switch it to red and make my sith Lightsaber. Changing to red, of course, will need new keycaps...

hmm? what's the current led colour on the underside of your DLS now?

and why changing to red would require new keycaps?
*
Currently is red. If I change the SMD LEDs to Blue, then it will fit the Jedi theme.

If I wanna make Sith theme, then I change all my switch LEDs to red, then change the keycaps to something black and red.

Currently using my Raindrop on it.

Whole thing not yet complete, hence not going to show pictures yet.

if i were you, i would opt to change the smd to ice blue or blue.

Yeah, Ice blue SMD LEds, and then Cyan coloured switch LEDs.

Gonna start a "Star Wars" themed GB soon.
