My pet peeve:

Poll results: How do you protect your smartphone?

Extremely good comment:

It's alarming to see that 21.81% of those polled, do not use any protection. With the cost of replacement devices, insurance and more specifically emotional attachment to their phones, traveling about without any safety precautions, leads me to two conclusions:

1) These people don't really care about their investments as much as they boast about or

2) They are trying to support an argument that beauty is more important than common sense.

Either scenerio is lack of smart responsibility in protecting an already delicate mobile device regardless of build quality.

While in Hong Kong 2 months ago, I was behind a young couple on the escalator. The girl had a naked pink Note 3. She was holding it while her handbag was slung on her forearm.

Something happened and she dropped her phone from about waist height. The glass shattered at the edge which hit the escalator, and she started whining to her boyfriend.

I thought to myself that she deserved it.....

hi all, not sure if i can raise my issue here about my note 2.

Recently facing that the phone itself doesnt auto lock.
No matter how many times i've checked with the setting, it is all fine.
The sign before the lock isnt work well is when the phone starts to hang. when i restart the phone, this issue came out. After troumandez times of trying... suddenly it went ok.

i am so frustrating on this as if u r unable to lock the screen, it is quite battery consuming...

Anyone can help?

Did you install some music player or video player from Chinese sites like kugou etc?

Those have been known to cause such problems.

A quick summary of my experience with DN3 rom v 3.1.1 on Jelly Bean 4.3

I flashed this in Jan if I recall correctly. It was basically stock 4.3 with added Note 3 features. Everything works including Air Commands. I can't recall if Air Gestures work as I disabled them.

For those who want a good stable rom without too many frills you should try using DN3 3.2.

Hi all, here is an xda thread about bootloaders and knox for those still on 4.3 or earlier.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2747963

The key statements:

There are two types of bootloader for note 2
1-Non-knoxed bootlader- these are bootlader earlier to version MJ5 including the MJ5 version

2 -Knoxed bootlader- these are the one released after MJ5

a)Recommended for Touchwiz based
4.1.2 - whatever stock b.l version u are having is fine
4.3.x - mj5 (to avoid wifi issues plz flash mj5 anything lower than that will cause wifi issues)
4.4.x - MJ5 (but u wont be able to charge ur phone will its swithched off){if u want to charge ur phone while its switched off u . have to flash latest nd3 b.l but that will void ur warranty}

b)Recommended for AOKP, CM ,PACMAN , paranoid ..........
4.1.2 , 4.3.x ,4.4.x - MJ5 will work with all rom of all verion

hi guys..its worth update to kit kat?

i  sked if it will lag my note 2.. or give problem..and i dun want do a fully reformat..

thx.

From a performance perspective it is *supposed* to be better. However there are some technical caveats, the most famous of which is the external sd card writing issue but I think Samsung ROMs have overcome this.

Lastly, you might need to perform a full wipe.

i am on 4.2.2 custom roms now, can really feel the sd card writing issue and tend to be very slow
is there any problem to fix this or any file to flash?

or opt back to TW kitkat rom?

BTW, the new google camera is very awesome! photosphere!
*
TW ROMs have some kind of workaround by Samsung that allows the sdcard writing. Some AOSP ROMs have a patch but you have to search for it.

If you post here I can put up on page 1.

hmmm... that's kinda old version, ya? coz now... its v5.2

air command works on v5+ too. just that i found some stuff to be there, but not working. and based on what others have commented, air gestures won't work since it requires 'special hardware' which Note 2 does not have. personally... i'm puzzled by this statement but i dun think i wanna press ahead. i'm pretty sure if its just sensors, we have them on Note 2....
*
Yeah kinda old lol but I'm happy with the stability and no frills approach. Even my note3 is still on rooted stock 4.3.

Xposed framework takes care of the little tweaks I need.

I work in managing IT systems and people don't change something just coz it's the latest tongue.gif

yes ,even though its at 2012,its still rated by ''CNET" . they hardly give rating unless its officially at best.
and those versions are dated 2012 as u said,so the current versions are even better and it keeps getting better.
*
Please go to xda and check the n7100 section. The Dev db feature will show you which is the most highly rated rom.

I suggest you do some reading of posts 6,7,8 of this thread please.

Its very hard to explain to u guys because u dont get it.
*
We totally get it.

You have to understand why XDA completely bans "what's the best ROM" threads and questions. The ROM is best for you, and maybe some others, but unsuitable for others.

"bestness" is totally subjective.

Also, please update yourself with correct terminology used in the forum to avoid all kinds of misunderstanding.

Hi Guys, just to ask for the 4.4.2 stock, do we need any other special tool to root it or we still use existing tools(Dr. Ketan) to root it as we have done in 4.1.2?
*
There's this new tool called Towelroot. Check it out on xda.

For the vast majority of users, stock with a custom launcher is more than sufficient. In fact most people just stick with TouchWiz.

Some will root for several advanced functions like backup and ad blocking.

Knox is actually a benefit for corporate types, but apparently it may not be as popular as other current MDM (mobile device management) solutions yet. It doesn't actually hamper you in your daily usage at all.

I'm on DN3 V3.1.1 from back in January, based on 4.3, and I'm very happy with it as it is rock stable and gives me the Note 3 features I like. It's sort of like having 2 x Note 3's now tongue.gif

LOLZ

The last 4.3 ROM from them is 3.2 which you can download. They've probably removed all earlier versions.
