Thank you both for your help. I appreciate it! Will keep researching

With my limited knowledge on this:
1. You can come to Malaysia on a holiday and at the same time find a job, preferably an expatriate position.
2. Like NightHeart mentioned, you can apply for a job here in Malaysia from UK. If you get it, the company should do the necessary to get your work permit for you.
3. Open your own business here and I am made to understand that there is no issue for you to work in your own company.
There are conditions for expatriate to get jobs here, the knowledge worker ones, such as salary must be more than RM5,000, with good qualifications and preferably good work experience.
The committee will evaluate first the position in the company if the position have not gotten any prior approval (DP10). Once this is approved and the company has a suitable expatriate candidate of their choice, they then apply for the person (DP11).
Sharing my limited knowledge working in Johor Bahru (Iskandar Malaysia) and was informed of the expatriates applying and working in companies / universities such as Newcastle Medical university, legoland, etc.
