This thread is aliveee...

Shell is pretty good, their benefits are tremendous (like all-paid maternity expenses for your spouse).  I was once offered a contract position, the pay is like double of my current one, I was already happy but the guy kept saying, "the amount is not really good if you know the benefits of a regular employee here".

ExxonMobile is ok only lah, the pay between contract and regular not much difference.  But they do have a lot of holidays for you, if a public holiday falls on Saturday, you get Friday off.  The recent Deeparaya holidays, for instance, both Fridays and Mondays were declared holidays.

Yes, u sacrifice your time to earn big bucks. Its ok if you're single and not attached. Otherwise, you're gonna lose a lot in exchange for the extra money.

Yes. Jobs in corporate finance are extremely stressful and wears you down. The pay is good but comes with a huge trade off. I think 9-10pm hours are still manageable. The worst ever was those guys stayed in the office for 3 days during MAS restructuring.

I think your friend started at entry-level. You need at least 3 years experience to get good pay in almost any job.

Last year, I heard people working for AmInvestment (investment banking) got 24 months bonus.

CIMB is just a new name for BCB and Southern Bank... After knowing this, what do you think you can get? Ask someone from BCB and you will know.

BCB and Southern Bank merge and called CIMB BANK

CIMB exist much earlier and is an "leading investment banking services for corporate clients, asset management services and private banking for high net-worth individuals."

So, u can expect CIMB to give bonus like AmInvest. My friend got 13months bonus last year!! drool.gif

While CIMB Bank.. sweat.gif

Well actually investment banks hire fresh graduate with at least 3.5-3.7 CGPA (engineering or finance or math or equivalent) from top univ.

Dont be fooled by bonuses alone.

I got 2 fresh grad frens.

One (investment banker) making RM1800 per month, bonus around 15 months (24 months is damn rare). Total a year = RM48600
Another (IT person) making RM3500 per month, bonus maybe 2 months. Total a year = RM 49000

They receive around the same amount of money.

CIMB has been around for 25+ years as a merchant/investment bank + doing share underwriting.

These few years they've been growing fast by acquiring Singaporean/Indon trading houses + merging BCB and Southern bank.

Exactly. It depends with whom you are doing business with. If you are just a consumer, you will deal with ex-BCB and SBB. If you are doing investment banking business, you will deal with the original CIMB people.

Correct, don't be fooled by bonuses, when you apply for jobs elsewhere, they're not going to care about your bonuses, they'll look at your current salary.
