thanks! i actually read your first post earlier this week, and gave me an idea of heading out to pattaya for a day trip!

Pattaya not worth it if you plan for a day. 2-3 days is better.
Because the trip alone is 4 hours (go and back) for one day trip.

Hi guys, need some advice cuz I have no experience backpacking traveling....

Planning to go backpacking for a week at Bangkok next year with a friend of mine. Just wanna know what kind of budget am I looking at, what stuff (clothes, shoes etc) are necessary to pack and whether possible to backpacking with just carry on of under 7 kg (air Asia)?

Our planned budget is RM 1000 (excluding flight) each, but not sure if it's enough? We'll be very frugal but it'll be better knowing we overbudget instead of not enough money ><

Thanks!

Wow that's a relief haha~ Thanks man!

Btw, about my luggage: me and my friend plan on only bringing carry on luggage of max 7kg. We will be traveling light, washing our clothes and stuff. But if we coming back bringing souvenirs, will that 7kg be enough? Cuz air Asia minimum add on luggage limit only got 20 kg, which is kinda pricey so thinking maybe can exclude that add on better?

got KL to BKK, 7KG no problem, i did it myself
bring yourself a foldable bag....like it opens to become a hand luggage
like one of these
https://travelbox.com.my/image/cache/data/S...d-1000x1000.jpg
i got one 2 years ago for cheap but i can't seem to find it in the website anymore
once there, open the expandable case...throw your cloth in together with all the souvenirs you gonna buy....lays, pocky, MAMA..etc etc
one back pack + one hand luggage can pass immigration no problem..i did it...JUST dnt buy too much laugh.gif ..and if its heavy...u better act like its not heavy devil.gif

abt washing cloth, no problem at all, i bring 4X cloth..i wash my cloth every 2 days....TONS of laundry facilities nearby my airbnb
if u stay hotel though, u might wanna search around abit

Thanks bro for telling me! Haha now not so worried anymore, and can save up a little more money as well 😆

Well we probably will be staying in hostels or traveler's inns so laundry shouldn't be too much prob 😄 what kind of backpack do you use then? I'm not sure whether to get a backpacking rucksack/backpack or just use my own 21 litre backpack as my carry on or "laptop bag" 😈 and the expandable bag I think my relative has one, can just borrow from them haha

i use some china made travel backpack...it says 40L but i dnt think it is..more like 30L
21L too small, laptop bag is a nono...the weight difference is huge compare to backpack
and the space difference inside the bag also big
if u dnt travel much, get yourself a cheap china made one...once broken can easily buy another...china one should be 50L = original 40L(which is the maximum limit airport/airline alow)

I live here for 2-3 weeks every month. I would say depends on venue and yourself.

Streetfood stall , NO NEVER

Restaurant where you are serve like a king, have someone pour your drinks for you, switch out your waste plate ( they give u a small plate where you dump your prawn/crab shells/ fish bone) when you are having seafood with shells, YES.

Taxi or driver, YES. It is not fun driving in Bangkok or Thailand in general.

Parking attendant, YES but only on land where the restaurant own the parking lot, you dont pay the parking fee but you pay the attendant instead, they do really take care of your car. If they dont own that land a receipt will be issued.

Premises that involve alcoholic drinks or premises with pretty women/dude services, YES

Massage, YES

Apart from alcoholic and pretty women/dude places, this people earn little wage and living cost in Thailand is getting damn high, especially in the capital.

The amount depends, typically 20 to 50. 100 baht is too much unless the particular person go all out to serve you, or party venue.

Before leaving, a word of chok dee is also nice.

Not paying tips is ok.

I would say one thing for tips, it is not necessary and depends on yourself entirely. If you're feeling generous and think the service deserves more, you are more than welcome to tip.
