Yes, its big about 1.6GBs worth but no worries there, Fileplanet forces you to install the IGN Download Manager.

Already tried it online. Only managed to play 1 game so far because of the instability of the Relic online servers is getting due to the influx of new players (a patch to fix this is due out sometime tommorow) but overall I'm really impressed with this game. The gameplay is fantastic; there is a lot strategy involved to this game then you might think (not your build, build, build and rush rts) and the graphics is gorgeous. One more thing, this game was also built to run on DX10 so it will end up lasting quite sometime. smile.gif

So far played 2 1v1 games, lost 1 won 1. Both time playing Axis side, still so much more to discover. I really like their support for this game, their latest patch seemed to fix their servers crapping out. The next patch is due out tommorrow with more fixes.

All I want to is this:
Is the game realistic? Does infantry and armour take realistic damage (1 bazooka shot may or may not insta-kill a tank)? Is the infantry AI better than the retarded drones from Blitzkrieg?

If yes, I'm all over this. Too bad my PC is down though sad.gif

This game is modeled realistically without compromising gameplay. Tanks for instance take more damage at the rear then the front or sides. The components of the tanks can also be affected when there is too much damage like the engines or the main gun. Sometimes, tanks also go out of control when theres too much damage then its pretty much screwed.

Weapons like the bazooka will only work well if used accordingly to where you fire it on tanks and they don't give insta kills even if you shoot the rear it usually takes 2 shots at the rear to destroy it, 1 shot usually just disables it(ie. engines or main guns).

Infantry work pretty much like in DOW but the AI is much more improved & more smarter. They automatically take cover when being shot and move like real soldiers. There is still so much more I can say about such as the commander abilities but that will end up taking an entire page.

Errr, that's NOT what I wanted to hear.

Zookas CAN instakill tanks if fired properly... Conversely, you could fire a dozen times and only leave a small dent.

Anti tank weapons have an effect on tanks the same way bullets have an effect on body armour. As long as the shot is powerful enough to penetrate the armour, it WILL go through most of the time (Depending on angle, distance, luck, etc.). And once the armour is compromised, the entire integrity of the tank is down the gutter (Armour is kinda like hull integrity in a way)

So, a bazooka shot, which has the ability to puncture a whole in a Panzer, should be able to either break the armour and cook the contents, or not do a damn thing. This was why tanks NEVER charged at anti-tank guns since one shot would be fatal for a tank.

Play Close Combat or Soldiers and you'll see what I mean. Positioning and firepower is good in armour warfare, but at the end of the day, luck is the most important factor.

I'll still give this a shot if it isn't very RTS-ey in other aspects.

/hope fades in yet another game that could've replaced Close Combat

Well, your talking about trajectory and infliction of damage based on angle. Well this game looks like it covered almost alot of realistic WW combat but still there are some inconsistencies that i've noticed from the gameplay and trailer vids.

I believe damage is calculated on the distance of the shot as well as trajectory degrades after a certain distance. I've seen that in some of the vids....shots fired closer under cover tends to do damage more from long range cover shots. This looks like its affected by distance shot that i mentioned. This would be where, you can confirm if there are insta-kills in the game.

Im not sure if this game has incorporated morale as in DOW. If it did, then that would also play in the accuracy of the shot as well. The insta-kill theory would have to be confirmed by some of the guys here who can play the game.

Behaviour patterns shown by the units are good as i noticed from the gameplay vids. Those are quite impressive. however i would have appreciated if they could have somehow inserted angle of view like in Commandos. That was a good game.. still playing it.

On the point of amour penetration, i believe we can only account that in the game if the devs have inserted those values into the game's calculation of weapon and vehicle specs. I wonder if anyone could tell me if the Devs include kill shots like kill syncs in DOW.

Anyway H@H@.....the game looks like its worth a try. biggrin.gif

Hunt: Yeah well, in spite of the fact that I can't stand most of the newer WW2 RTS', I MUST try them (Unless they're sequels to something that I didn't like before).

So, yes, I will give this a shot... As soon as I get my PC back up.

Thats strange, I didn't have any problems with the download manager, I got 80 to 100Kbs on the download.

There are insta kills in the game like the by Axis snipers, bombing runs, strafing runs and artilery, rocket bombardments, etc especially against infantry. Those are pratically unavoidable if you get caught out in the open. Infantry practically don't stand a chance against armor unless they are upgraded with anti-tank weaponry like sticky bombs or bazookas even then they need to have solid cover to survive.

The infantries do not have morale per se like in DOW but they do have stages where they can become effective or ineffective in battle. When an infantry squad is out in the open they generally tend to be sitting ducks againts armor, a mg squad or a mg nest. If they don't get into cover, the get 'pinned' and pinned squads will slowly but surely get killed off unless you order them to retreat to hq to regroup.

Some commander and unit abilities allow troops get temporary bonuses to movement or firepower.

I didn't notice any kill shots in the game though. Probably not in the beta.

Yes been playing ever since this Monday. If you have patched the game there shouldn't be any problem connecting. There is still some server issues but for the most part its ok.
