Hello guys, pros and wedding photographers, I've always have troubles how to get this right. What kind of settings / preset can we do, to achieve this kind of soft, vintage, dreamy look? I need a simple guide or tutorial on this.. Desaturation doesnt work and doesnt give this kind of feel. Which color did you guys desaturate? And what else do you do? And also this kind: http://wefreeze.net/2013/10/mick-mei-anns-pre-wedding/http://stories.my/raw-vintage-classic-pre-...-enruey-jasmin/Feel free to comment here, or pm me if you need to. Thanks! 1st before color adjustment... shoot wide open on a prime.. 50mm, 85mm and above... to get shallow DOF else no matter how u change the color, it will not become dreamy... (whoops, after looking to your FB, u already did it) nice shot This post has been edited by slowkancil: May 26 2014, 10:13 PM

Getting Started

|
With photoshop - Lowering contrast from Brightness/Contrast or Curve tab. Gaussian blur to your heart content and layer mask it on top your original layer. Paint back the sharp focus area with soft brush. Tweak opacity value for final blending of soft focus area. Just my 2 sen.

Just my 2 sen. yup.. this one almost nail it... but if u add 1 more yellow-brown layer at 25-50 opacity, can add the vintage fell

Apart from whats been said regarding colour tone, I found out that the clarity adjustment in lightroom also can make the image softer and dream like. Try it if you've got the chance.

lol I don't know if I'm qualified enough to give someone like you michael advice but what I found to give the "hazy" effect is to go to the tone curve, click on the point on the origin of the curve (bottom left) and pull it up via Y-axis. There's probably more you can do to achieve the brown-ish effect for the vintage look though. 35mm f2 by DecQuinas, on Flickr ^ the above image was processed by doing that alone without modifying anything else to do with colour.

Sure you could do simple curve adjustment on photoshop, but that's too easy and doesn't exactly makes it dreamy and with that "pop". So here's a detailed guide to get the look you want. http://iso.500px.com/aging-storm-outdoor-portrait-tutorial/
