0w-20 and 5w-40

0w-20 is better for city day to day drive. Now got to see which SC allow to change oil for the first 1,000km.

I see, what about if the car is being used to travel from Melaka to Muar daily (~ about 40km each way)? A couple of traffic lights here and there on the way.

Oh about the SC, I think the way is to go on a non peak time so they will actually "layan" you.

celsiuz, apology cause i didnt make myself clear. 0w-20 is good for long distance too and it designed for normal driving style. 5w-40 is more suitable for performance oriented. If you check out Honda website, you will noticed they dont recommend 0w-20 for Civic Type R. I am in assumption that the civic type R driver might drag the rpm above 4-5k rpm since it is manual. Any gurus out there please correct me if i am wrong.

Kinda frustrated if SC refused to change even if we are willing to pay.

My SC die die don't want change the oil for me during 1000km even when I insisted on paying it.
RM128 or RM187? There's 2 types of full syn oil from Honda? What's the other one?

That's the weirdest thing i've ever heard....AFAIK, SC will always change oil at 1000km 1st service...is it a Honda thing? Just checked their website...says inspection only...same for Accord 2013...then go there for what? SC to look and see????

Any other people have similar experience where the SC refuse to change the engine oil at 1000km??? shocking.gif

dig up something:
Singapore Honda Accord 2013 maintenance schedule:
http://www.honda.com.sg/cars/service_pdf/A...gePriceList.pdf

Change engine oil!!!

Malaysia Honda Accord 2013 maintenance schedule:

http://honda.com.my/service_maintenance/maintenance/?id=9

Inspection only!!!!

There's no City 2014 in Singapore website yet...but this is weird...is Honda up to something?? Remove the replacement so that the maintenance schedule looks cheaper??? mad.gif

I have just posted at Honda Malaysia Facebook.

https://www.facebook.com/hondamalaysia

Please show some support to raise the issue, especially those who have already been through the 1000km service.

Let me help you guys know more about cars and engine oil. The reason why SC insisted on not changing the oil is because there's a reason to it. All new Honda cars are filled with a special type of engine oil from the factory. Its different from those sold in the market or SC. This type of oil are meant for new engines that requires breaking in thus the composition of chemicals, addictives etc are different.

If you guys google more, u will notice Honda USA have explanation on the 1,000km doesn't require an oil change.

I hope i gave some useful info for you guys.

Okay this is what I manage to find out..

Why should I wait to change the oil the first time?

Your Honda engine was delivered with an oil that is specially formulated for new engines that have not yet developed their "natural" wear patterns and may contain minute particles from the manufacturing process.

American Honda strongly recommends this special oil be left in the engine long enough for these wear patterns to develop, usually until the first maintenance interval specified in your Owner's Manual, based on your specific driving conditions.

Taken from Honda USA. So guys please don't screw the poor SC for taking care of your engine when you all know nuts about engine oil.

I used to think like you too and wanted to change the oil at 1,000km but didn't manage to do so cause I wanted to save the money tongue.gif

Additional information for you guys regarding the 2 type of fully synthetic oil (w20 vs w40). Anyone interested to know the difference? tongue.gif

Red bottled oil will give you better protection as it is genuinely a fully synthetic oil (group 4 polyalphaolifin). The green bottled oil, although honda claims it is fully synthetic.. In actual fact it is not. That oil is actually a highly refined oil based from group 3 hydrocracked oil. That is why you can see there's a huge difference in terms of pricing between the red bottle and the green bottle fully synthetic oil.

Countries like Japan, Germany and a few others wouldn't allow an oil to be named fully synthetic if their based is from hydrocracked oil. However, the rest of the world don't usually follow this and 99% of the time will mislead consumer into believing that they are using fully synthetic oil.

The green honda oil is still a good oil as they are categorized as the best group 3 based oil.. Highly refined and pure.. However, if it is compared to the red bottled PAO oil, the differences is day and night in terms of quality of the oil as well as oil drain interval.

If you hardly rev your engine till the 5k-6k rpm band, it is safe to go with the green oil. Else the red oil will be better.

Note: I've posted this on the older Honda City thread last week i think..

@Matrix - http://owners.honda.com/help/faqs

@Thrust - I don't rev that high but I would categorize myself as fast driver (Not crazily fast but most of the time i am doing 130-150kmh) on highway. Based on your explanation, the "red" one would serve me better? I don't mind to pay slightly more for long term protection smile.gif

The key word here is not fast or slow bro.. Its 'HIGH REVVing" the engine. I can drive slow at 40km but rev the engine to 6k rpm on first gear.. You could speed at 120km but engine rpm is at 2,500 rpm..

If you always like to rev your engine to say like 4-6k rpm then you shud opt for the red bottled oil.
The green bottle oil is meant for pick up & fuel efficiency. If you hardly rev past 3k rpm, i highly recommend you to stick with the green oil.
